FSR Upscaling 4.1.2 supports discrete Radeon RX 9000, RX 7000 and RX 6000 graphics cards, plus specific Ryzen AI Max, Ryzen AI 9 and Ryzen Z-series processors with integrated Radeon graphics. It is not an RX 9000-only feature anymore. However, a compatible GPU alone does not activate FSR: the game must use an eligible DirectX 12 or Vulkan integration, and the appropriate driver or FSR SDK path must be present. AMD’s separate ML FSR Frame Generation 4.0.2 remains limited to RX 9000-series-and-newer hardware on Windows 11, so frame-generation requirements should not be confused with upscaling support.

What is FSR Upscaling 4.1.2?
FSR Upscaling 4.1.2 is AMD’s machine-learning image upscaler. It renders a game internally at a lower resolution, then reconstructs a higher-resolution output to improve performance while attempting to preserve detail. The version number identifies the upscaling component in FSR SDK 2.4; it is not a blanket label for every FSR feature.
AMD also publishes separate components for ML frame generation and ray-regeneration features. ML FSR Frame Generation 4.0.2 has a narrower hardware and operating-system target than upscaling. Treat “FSR 4.1” in a game menu as an implementation label and verify which component the developer integrated.

Which discrete Radeon cards support FSR 4.1.2?
RX 9000 series
Every discrete RX 9000 model covered by AMD’s requirements list supports FSR Upscaling 4.1.2. The RX 9070 XT and RX 9060 XT are representative examples. This family runs AMD’s full FP8 model and is also the target for the separate ML FSR Frame Generation 4.0.2 feature.
RX 7000 series
Discrete RX 7000 cards gained FSR Upscaling 4.1.1 support in AMD’s June 24, 2026 SDK 2.3 rollout and remain supported in 4.1.2. Examples include the RX 7800 XT and RX 7600. These GPUs use the full INT8 model rather than the RX 9000 FP8 model.
RX 6000 series
AMD expanded upscaling support to discrete RX 6000 cards with SDK 2.4 and the October 2026 software release. The RX 6800 XT, RX 6700 XT and RX 6600 are examples in the supported family. They also use the full INT8 model, but they do not gain the RX 9000-only ML frame-generation entitlement.
Recommended Free Tools
Support is tied to the discrete GPU series named by AMD, not simply to the word “Radeon” in a product name. Older generations and unlisted variants should be treated as unsupported for ML FSR 4.1.2 unless AMD adds them to a later requirements list.
Does my RX 6000 or RX 7000 support FSR 4.1?
Yes, if it is a discrete RX 6000 or RX 7000 card and the game has a qualifying integration. The earlier claim that FSR 4 upscaling worked only on RX 9000 is outdated after AMD’s 2026 expansions.

For RX 7000 owners, the relevant expansion arrived with SDK 2.3 in June 2026. RX 6000 support followed in October 2026 through SDK 2.4 and Adrenalin 26.10.1-era documentation. A game still needs the correct integration; installing a driver cannot add an FSR option to a title that contains no supported FSR implementation.
Which integrated Radeon graphics qualify?
AMD lists selected processors rather than every Radeon-branded APU. Supported groups are Ryzen AI Max 300/400 with integrated Radeon 8000S graphics; Ryzen AI 9 300/400 with Radeon 800M graphics; and the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme, Ryzen Z2 Extreme and Ryzen Z2 A processors. Check the exact processor model and configuration in the laptop, mini PC or handheld specification.
Ryzen AI Max systems use the full INT8 model. The other listed Ryzen processors use a smaller, lightweight INT8 model. Integrated graphics share system memory, so memory bandwidth, configured power limits and thermal headroom can materially affect results. A product marketed as a Ryzen APU or gaming handheld is not automatically eligible.
What is the difference between the FP8, full INT8 and lightweight INT8 models?
The model is selected automatically according to the target hardware. RX 9000 cards receive AMD’s full FP8 model; RX 7000 and RX 6000 cards receive the full INT8 model; Ryzen AI Max uses full INT8; and the other supported Ryzen processors use lightweight INT8.
“Supported” therefore does not mean identical image reconstruction or processing cost across devices. The model choice is an implementation decision made by the FSR API, not a switch that users normally choose in the game menu. Integrated systems can also be constrained by shared-memory bandwidth and power delivery even when their processor is on the eligibility list.

What software and API requirements does a game need?
For the DirectX 12 path, AMD specifies Shader Model 6.6. That support requires DirectX 12 Agility SDK 1.4.9 or later. For Vulkan, FSR SDK 2.4 requires Vulkan 1.2 and uses SPIR-V 1.5.

These are developer integration requirements, not a promise that a user can enable FSR in every game by updating the Radeon driver. The game must ship an eligible FSR integration or qualify for AMD’s driver-upgrade mechanism.
DirectX 12 driver-upgrade route
AMD says qualifying DirectX 12 games with earlier FSR 3.1 integrations can be eligible for an automatic driver upgrade to the newer ML upscaler. The eligibility depends on how the title integrated FSR, so not every game using an older FSR version will receive the override.
Vulkan SDK route
Existing Vulkan FSR 3.1 games do not automatically receive ML upscaling through that DirectX 12-only override. A Vulkan title needs the FSR SDK 2.4 integration. AMD’s SDK requirements documentation states that driver 26.10.1 or later is required for new APU and Vulkan support, while AMD’s October 28, 2026 developer article says features supplied through game-shipped SDK DLLs do not require one universal driver minimum. The practical approach is to use a current supported AMD driver and check the game developer’s integration notes.
How can I check whether a game will expose FSR 4.1.2?
- Identify the exact GPU or processor. Confirm the model in Windows Device Manager, the system BIOS or the manufacturer’s specification. Match it to AMD’s RX 6000, RX 7000, RX 9000 or specifically listed Ryzen entries.
- Update the Radeon software. Use a current AMD driver. For the October 2026 APU and Vulkan additions, AMD’s requirements page identifies Adrenalin 26.10.1 or later, while game-shipped SDK components may have different minimum-driver behavior.
- Check the game’s graphics menu and patch notes. Look for FSR Upscaling, not only a generic “FSR” label. A title may expose Native AA, Quality, Balanced, Performance or optional Ultra Performance modes after integration.
- Determine the rendering API. A DirectX 12 title may qualify for the driver-upgrade path when its previous FSR 3.1 integration meets AMD’s conditions. A Vulkan title needs the SDK 2.4 path for ML upscaling.
- Restart after changing the option. Some games load upscaler libraries at launch. If the option is absent, verify the game build, API mode and driver before assuming the GPU is unsupported.
What happens on hardware that is not supported?
Unsupported hardware can still receive analytical FSR 3.1.6 when the game supports that fallback. AMD describes this as the API selecting FSR 3.1.6 on other hardware; it is not ML FSR Upscaling 4.1.2.

AMD’s analytical fallback list covers RX 500 series and newer, along with equivalent hardware from other vendors, subject to the game’s own API and feature requirements. A fallback may preserve an upscaling option, but it should not be described as FSR 4.1.2 or as using the newer ML model.
How much memory and processing time does FSR 4.1.2 need?
AMD’s FSR 4.1.2 manual gives approximate additional upscaler working-set sizes measured with an RX 9070 XT. These figures are not minimum total VRAM requirements for a graphics card.
| Output resolution | Approximate additional working set | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| 1920×1080 | 81 MB | AMD GPUOpen manual measurement, 2026, on RX 9070 XT |
| 3840×2160 | 318 MB | AMD GPUOpen manual measurement, 2026, on RX 9070 XT |
| 7680×4320 | 1274 MB | AMD GPUOpen manual measurement, 2026, on RX 9070 XT |
The same manual reports upscaler processing times of 1,316 microseconds at 3840×2160 on an RX 9070 XT and 2,050 microseconds at 2560×1440 on an RX 7800 XT. Because both the GPU and resolution differ, these are reference processing measurements, not a controlled comparison and not whole-game frame rates.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is RX 9000 required for FSR frame generation?
For AMD’s separate ML FSR Frame Generation 4.0.2, AMD specifies RX 9000-series-and-newer GPUs and Windows 11. That requirement does not apply to FSR Upscaling 4.1.2, which also supports RX 6000, RX 7000 and selected Ryzen processors.
Do not infer frame-generation availability from the presence of an FSR 4.1.2 upscaling option. A game can support the newer upscaler on an RX 6000 or RX 7000 card while omitting ML frame generation.

Which supported hardware should you choose?
For an existing system, keeping a supported RX 6000 or RX 7000 card may be the sensible choice when the goal is simply FSR 4.1.2 upscaling. Buying an RX 9000 card is relevant when you also need the separate ML frame-generation path, not because older supported cards lack the upscaler.
- Choose a discrete RX 9000 card when RX 9000’s FP8 model and its separate frame-generation support are priorities.
- Use an RX 7000 or RX 6000 card when you already own one and the game’s integration supports the required path.
- Choose a listed Ryzen AI system when portability or integrated graphics matters, while accounting for shared-memory bandwidth and power limits.
- Verify the game first if FSR is the deciding feature; hardware eligibility cannot compensate for a missing or incompatible integration.
What are the most common FSR 4.1.2 mistakes?
- Confusing upscaling with frame generation: RX 6000 and RX 7000 support the former, not AMD’s RX 9000-targeted ML frame-generation component.
- Assuming every Radeon APU qualifies: only the Ryzen processor groups AMD names are supported.
- Treating a driver update as universal enablement: the game must contain a qualifying DX12 or Vulkan integration.
- Calling analytical FSR 3.1.6 “FSR 4.1.2”: the fallback uses a different, non-ML implementation.
- Reading working-set figures as VRAM minimums: AMD’s memory numbers describe additional upscaler allocation at stated resolutions, not total card capacity.
- Comparing the published timings as FPS: AMD’s microsecond figures measure the upscaler pass under specified conditions, not complete game performance.
What changed in 2026?
On June 24, 2026, AMD’s SDK 2.3 announcement added FSR Upscaling 4.1.1 support for RX 7000 discrete GPUs. In October 2026, SDK 2.4 and Adrenalin 26.10.1-era updates expanded the list to RX 6000 cards and selected Ryzen processors, producing the 4.1.2 support set described above.
AMD’s October 20, 2026 newsroom announcement says Xbox Series X|S support is coming soon. That wording describes a planned rollout, not broad availability at the time of this article, so it should not be treated as a current PC hardware requirement or an already shipping console feature.

Can a game support FSR 4.1.2 on an RX 6800 XT?
Yes, the RX 6800 XT is in AMD’s supported discrete RX 6000 family. The game still needs a qualifying DirectX 12 or Vulkan integration; the card’s presence alone does not add the option.
Does FSR 4.1.2 require Windows 11?
AMD lists Windows 10 and Windows 11 for FSR upscaling. Windows 11 is specifically required for the separate ML FSR Frame Generation 4.0.2 and Ray Regeneration 1.2.1 features.
Will an older Vulkan FSR 3.1 game automatically get ML FSR upscaling?
No. AMD’s automatic driver-upgrade route applies to qualifying DirectX 12 integrations. A Vulkan game needs an FSR SDK 2.4 integration to use ML upscaling.
Is there a minimum VRAM capacity for FSR 4.1.2?
AMD publishes additional upscaler working-set measurements rather than a universal total-VRAM minimum. Actual suitability also depends on the game, resolution and the rest of its graphics workload.
