Yes—if your priority is large, functional parts in demanding materials, the QIDI Plus5 is one of the strongest sub-$1,000 options at its launch price. Its 320 × 320 × 300 mm build volume, 370°C nozzle, 120°C bed and actively heated 65°C chamber make it a serious enclosed CoreXY FFF machine for ABS, ASA, nylon, polycarbonate, TPU and similar filaments. Tom’s Hardware called it a high-temperature workhorse and one of the best 3D printers it had seen. The important qualification is multicolor printing: the optional QIDI Box still did not swap colors reliably in that review, so color-changing production is not a reason to buy the Plus5 today.

Is the QIDI Plus5 worth it?

The Plus5 is worth considering when you need engineering-material capability and a genuinely large print area more than you need polished multicolor automation. Its combination of a 320 mm-class platform and active chamber heating is unusual at the reported US launch price of $749 for the printer alone. You also get automatic load-cell leveling, LAN, Wi‑Fi and USB connectivity, a 4-inch touchscreen, a 1080p chamber camera, a double-sided PEI flex plate and three-stage air filtration.

Tom’s Hardware’s hands-on verdict was unusually strong: it described the machine as “a great machine for large-scale prints in high-temperature filaments” and “my favorite high-temp workhorse and one of the best 3D printers we’ve seen.” That is an assessment of one independent review, not a statistical reliability guarantee. No standardized long-term failure rate or multi-month durability benchmark has been established in the available evidence.

  • Choose it for: large brackets, housings, fixtures, ducts, prototypes and other functional parts that benefit from a warm, enclosed build environment.
  • Think twice if: your main goal is dependable automatic color swapping, because the optional QIDI Box was not reliable enough in testing.
  • Plan for: rear-mounted filament access and a physically large printer; the available data provides no official footprint dimensions, so confirm your bench space before ordering.

What are the QIDI Plus5’s specifications?

The following figures come from QIDI Technology’s 2026 product listing and Tom’s Hardware’s 2026 review. Prices are separated by region and launch date because they are not interchangeable.

How big can the QIDI Plus5 print?

The usable volume is 320 mm wide, 320 mm deep and 300 mm high. In practical terms, that is roughly 12.6 × 12.6 × 11.8 inches, although your model’s orientation, brim, supports and clearance around moving parts can reduce the space you can use comfortably.

Tom’s Hardware says this is 18% more build volume than the preceding Plus4. That increase matters for one-piece enclosures, large air-handling parts, tooling and fixtures that would otherwise need to be split and joined. It also lets you arrange several smaller functional parts on one plate, reducing the number of print starts.

Do not interpret the envelope as a promise that every 320 mm part will print without preparation. Tall parts still need a stable orientation, and large flat sections can stress any thermoplastic as they cool. The heated chamber is the feature that makes the Plus5 more suitable for those jobs than an equivalently sized open or passively enclosed printer.

Can the QIDI Plus5 print ABS, nylon and polycarbonate?

Its temperature range is designed for engineering filaments. QIDI specifies a 370°C nozzle, 120°C heated bed and 65°C active chamber, while the product and review materials identify ABS, ASA, PA/nylon, PC, TPU and related high-temperature materials as intended applications. PETG is also included in the accessory and filament guidance.

ABS and ASA

ABS and ASA are logical matches for an enclosed printer with active chamber heating. The warm enclosure helps reduce the temperature difference between a freshly deposited layer and the surrounding air, which is important for large walls and corners. You still need a suitable material profile, a clean build surface and adequate ventilation practices; the presence of a chamber does not make every spool or geometry automatically trouble-free.

PA and nylon

Nylon benefits from the Plus5’s hot nozzle and heated environment, but it is especially sensitive to moisture. Dry the filament according to its manufacturer’s instructions, keep it protected during printing and validate the profile on a small critical feature before committing a full build. The printer’s temperature capability is a prerequisite for many nylon blends, not a guarantee that every formulation will produce the same strength or surface finish.

Polycarbonate

Polycarbonate is another reason to consider the Plus5. The 370°C nozzle and 120°C bed provide headroom for PC formulations that need more heat than general-purpose plastics. Check the specific spool’s recommended nozzle, bed and chamber conditions; “polycarbonate” covers a range of blends, so a single universal setting would be misleading.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

TPU and other flexible materials

TPU is listed among the supported material classes. Flexible filament usually rewards conservative handling and a carefully chosen feed path. Because rear filament loading is one of the Plus5’s awkward points, take extra care when threading a flexible spool and confirm that it is feeding smoothly before starting a long job.

What does the Plus5’s heated chamber change?

The chamber can actively reach 65°C, rather than relying only on heat retained by the enclosure. That gives you a controllable thermal environment for materials that are prone to warping, layer separation or residual stress when printed in a cool room.

Chamber heat is not the same thing as nozzle or bed temperature. A successful process still depends on first-layer preparation, part orientation, cooling, extrusion calibration and the material’s drying state. For a new filament, begin with a modest test rather than assuming the maximum chamber setting is optimal.

The enclosed structure also keeps the print area separated from drafts and includes three-stage air filtration. The available evidence confirms the filtration hardware, but it does not provide an independent measurement of capture efficiency for a particular polymer or room. Treat filtration as a useful built-in feature, not as permission to ignore the material manufacturer’s ventilation guidance.

What is the day-to-day workflow like?

The Plus5 is designed to reduce routine calibration and let you monitor jobs over a network, but its physical layout still affects how pleasant it is to use. The following workflow uses the features documented for the machine without assuming undocumented menu names.

  1. Choose the location first. Confirm that the enclosure can open fully and that you can reach the rear filament path. Because the official footprint dimensions are not included in the available evidence, measure your intended bench and leave working clearance rather than fitting the printer tightly between walls.
  2. Install the build surface. Place the supplied double-sided PEI flex plate correctly and keep both the plate and the nozzle free of residue. A flexible plate is convenient for part removal, but it still depends on a clean, properly prepared surface.
  3. Use automatic load-cell leveling. Run the printer’s automatic leveling routine from the touchscreen during initial setup and whenever the machine has been moved or the first layer changes unexpectedly. Load-cell sensing is intended to reduce manual probing, not to eliminate the need to inspect the first layer.
  4. Load and condition the filament. Route the spool through the rear filament path, heat the tool head to the material’s recommended temperature and confirm steady extrusion. Plan the spool position before a long print because the rear access is the Plus5’s most commonly cited ergonomic weakness.
  5. Select the appropriate material profile. Start with the profile intended for your filament family, then adjust temperature, chamber heat, cooling and speed based on a small test. Do not transfer settings between PLA, nylon, PC and flexible TPU as if they were interchangeable.
  6. Send the job. The printer supports LAN, Wi‑Fi and USB, so you can choose the connection that best fits your workshop. A wired or local USB workflow can be useful when you do not want the printer dependent on a wireless signal.
  7. Watch the first layers. Use the 4-inch touchscreen or the 1080p chamber camera to confirm adhesion and extrusion before leaving the job. Camera monitoring helps you see a failure; it does not automatically stop every failure mode.

How good is the Plus5’s print quality?

The strongest independent statement is Tom’s Hardware’s overall conclusion that the machine is a high-temperature workhorse and one of the best 3D printers tested by that outlet. That supports confidence in its suitability for large functional prints, but it does not supply a universal dimensional-accuracy number, surface-roughness measurement or speed benchmark.

For engineering work, judge quality by the features that affect your actual part: whether the first layer remains consistent across a large plate, whether corners stay attached during a warm build, whether holes and mating surfaces fit after shrinkage, and whether the chosen material profile produces repeatable walls. Record those observations for each filament instead of treating the printer’s maximum temperatures as a quality score.

The CoreXY layout is appropriate for a large machine because the build platform does not need to carry the tool head through the full X-Y travel. The available sources do not provide a measured acceleration, maximum print speed or noise level, so those should not be treated as established Plus5 specifications.

What are the QIDI Plus5’s main weaknesses?

Rear filament loading is awkward

Tom’s Hardware specifically calls out the rear filament arrangement as awkward. In a tight workspace, changing a spool can require reaching behind the enclosure or moving the printer. Put the machine where the rear path remains accessible, and stage commonly used spools before starting a long job.

The QIDI Box does not yet make multicolor dependable

The optional QIDI Box accessory is the clearest reason not to buy the Plus5 for color production. Tom’s Hardware reports that it still did not swap colors reliably during testing. A multicolor system that occasionally fails a change can waste filament, interrupt a print and undermine the unattended workflow the accessory is meant to provide.

If you mainly print single-color engineering parts, the QIDI Box limitation may not matter. If automatic color changes are central to your purchase, treat the unresolved reliability issue as decisive and wait for independent evidence of a dependable revision rather than buying on the promise of future improvement.

Long-term reliability is not statistically established

Only one independent hands-on review and the manufacturer’s listing are represented here. There is no multi-month failure-rate study or standardized reliability dataset to justify claims about service life. Buyers who depend on continuous production should budget time for their own acceptance testing and keep a record of failed builds, maintenance and material-specific settings.

How does the Plus5 compare with other large enclosed printers?

The Plus5’s meaningful point of difference is not one isolated specification; it is the combination of a 320 × 320 × 300 mm volume, 370°C nozzle, 120°C bed and 65°C active chamber at a launch price below $1,000 in the US. When comparing another model, evaluate the same dimensions rather than accepting a larger-sounding nozzle temperature or a nominal enclosure as proof of equivalent capability.

  • Build volume: compare usable X, Y and Z dimensions, not the outside dimensions of the frame.
  • Thermal range: verify maximum nozzle, bed and actively controlled chamber temperatures separately.
  • Enclosure and filtration: distinguish a passive cover from an enclosure with active heating, and ask what filtration is actually included.
  • Print quality: look for independent large-part and engineering-material results, not only small PLA showcase models.
  • Setup and software: check whether automatic leveling, network transfer, camera monitoring and the touchscreen are included or optional.
  • Multicolor: establish whether color changes have been tested reliably with the exact accessory and firmware version you would use.
  • Footprint and access: account for rear spool clearance and door movement as well as the printer’s cabinet dimensions.
  • Total cost: include the printer, any color system, specialized cooling accessory and the filament-drying equipment your materials require.

On those criteria, the Plus5 is strongest for high-temperature, single-material work and weakest as a ready-made multicolor production platform.

How much does the QIDI Plus5 cost?

Tom’s Hardware reported a US launch price of $749 for the standalone printer and $899 for the Combo. QIDI’s European listing showed €749. These are launch or listing figures from 2026, not a guarantee of the price in your country or on the day you order.

The Combo generally refers to the printer packaged with the optional color-handling hardware discussed as the QIDI Box. Because the review found that color swapping was not reliable, do not assume the additional package cost is justified unless you have a specific multicolor workflow and accept the risk of troubleshooting it.

Who should buy the QIDI Plus5?

Buy it when these conditions match your work

  • You routinely print parts larger than a typical desktop printer can produce in one piece.
  • Your materials include ABS, ASA, nylon, polycarbonate, TPU or other filaments that benefit from high nozzle, bed and chamber temperatures.
  • You value automatic load-cell leveling, remote connectivity and a built-in camera.
  • You can provide a stable location with access to the rear filament path.
  • You are comfortable validating profiles and inspecting first layers rather than expecting every material to be plug-and-play.

Choose a different direction when these are your priorities

  • Reliable multicolor output is more important than high-temperature capability.
  • You need a compact printer and cannot provide rear access or a large bench.
  • You require published long-term reliability statistics before approving a machine for production.
  • You expect a measured speed, noise or dimensional-accuracy specification that is not provided in the available evidence.

What should you check before ordering?

Use this short acceptance checklist to avoid buying the right printer for the wrong workspace or process.

  • Measure the bench and the clearance needed to open the enclosure and reach the rear spool path.
  • Confirm that the filaments you intend to use have profiles compatible with a 370°C nozzle, 120°C bed and 65°C chamber when required.
  • Decide whether you need the standalone machine or are considering the Combo because of color changes.
  • Price the printer in your own region; the cited $749, $899 and €749 figures are not a universal current price list.
  • Plan a small validation print for every new engineering filament and record the settings that work.
  • If filtration is important to your room, verify the manufacturer’s current guidance for the specific polymer rather than relying only on the phrase “three-stage.”

QIDI Plus5 review verdict

The Plus5 earns the “best one yet” description when that phrase means a capable, large-format, high-temperature workhorse. Its 320 mm square platform, 300 mm height and active 65°C chamber give engineers and serious makers room to print functional parts that smaller or cooler machines force you to split. The $749 US standalone launch price made that combination especially compelling.

It is not an automatic recommendation for everyone. Rear filament access is inconvenient, the QIDI Box does not yet deliver dependable color swapping according to the independent review, and the available evidence cannot establish long-term reliability. Buy the Plus5 for its thermal platform and build volume; regard multicolor as an unproven add-on rather than its defining feature.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the QIDI Plus5’s €749 price the same as the US price?

No. The cited €749 figure comes from QIDI’s European listing, while the US review reported a $749 standalone launch price and an $899 Combo. Taxes, shipping, currency conversion and later promotions can change the amount you actually pay.

How much rear clearance should I leave for the Plus5?

The available specifications do not state a required clearance measurement. Leave enough room to reach the filament path without moving the printer, and verify the cabinet dimensions and door swing with QIDI before fixing the machine in a tight enclosure.

Can I leave a Plus5 printing overnight using only the camera?

The 1080p camera lets you inspect a job remotely, but it is not described as a complete automatic-failure prevention system. For unattended work, first validate the material profile and observe the initial layers; use the camera as an additional check rather than a substitute for safe operating practice.

Does a 65°C chamber eliminate the need to dry nylon?

No. Chamber heat controls the print environment, while nylon moisture is held in the filament itself. Dry and store nylon according to the spool manufacturer’s instructions even when the printer is operating at an elevated chamber temperature.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is the QIDI Polar Cooler proven on the Plus5?

Not from the cited review. Tom’s Hardware did not test that accessory on the Plus5, so any improvement for a particular material or geometry should be treated as unverified until you have model-specific evidence.
