Yes—you can put an AI-generated site online at no cost without leaving your coding workflow. First determine what the agent produced. A folder containing only HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images, fonts, and other browser files is a static site; publish it with Netlify, Cloudflare Pages, or GitHub Pages. A project that needs a server process, API keys handled on the server, authentication, or a database is an application; use an app platform such as Render and select a Web Service rather than a static host. The sections below show how to identify the right route, deploy from a local folder or Git repository, test the resulting URL, and avoid the free-tier and privacy surprises that can make a “free” launch unreliable.

What kind of website did your agent generate?

The deployment decision depends on whether a browser can receive the finished files directly or whether code must run on a server. Looking at the project files is more reliable than relying on the agent’s description.

Static site: files served as-is

A static site normally contains an index.html entry file plus CSS, client-side JavaScript, images, fonts, and other assets. JavaScript may call a third-party service from the browser, but the host itself does not execute your application code. Landing pages, documentation, portfolios, marketing pages, and many small browser games fit this model.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • There is a top-level index.html, or a build process that creates one.
  • The site works when opened from a local static server without a database.
  • Forms either submit to an external service or are only visual; they do not require your own server endpoint.
  • There is no required command such as node server.js, python app.py, or a framework runtime that must remain running.

Application: code that needs a runtime

Choose an application host when the project includes a server, API routes, server-side rendering, login sessions, background jobs, or a database. A static host can deliver the front end, but it cannot keep a server process running or safely hide private credentials. Render offers both a Static Site service and a Web Service; the latter is the appropriate type when server-side behavior is required.

  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  • Look for files such as package.json scripts that start a server, an API directory, database migrations, or environment variables intended to stay secret.
  • Ask the agent whether the build output is merely browser files or whether a process must listen on a port.
  • Never put a private API key in client-side JavaScript just to make a static deployment work. Anyone who loads the page can inspect it.

Which free host fits your workflow?

All four routes can produce a public URL, but they differ in how you deliver the code and what they can execute. This table is a practical starting point; limits, retention policies, build minutes, bandwidth, file-size limits, and custom-domain rules can change, so check the provider’s current free-tier page before launch.

Route Best fit Agent-friendly workflow Default output Important caveat
Netlify A static folder or AI-generated project AI-tool integration, CLI deployment, drag-and-drop, or anonymous CLI deployment A live Netlify URL An anonymous deployment is temporary; claim it if you intend to keep it.
Cloudflare Pages Static HTML or a Git-backed project Connect GitHub or GitLab for automatic and preview deployments A unique *.pages.dev project subdomain Set the correct output directory and keep a top-level index.html.
GitHub Pages A static project already stored in GitHub GitHub Actions publishes on pushes to main A github.io user or project URL Repository and Pages visibility choices determine who can access the site.
Render An app needing a runtime, or a static site managed as a service Connect a Git provider, then select Static Site or Web Service A Render service URL Use Web Service for server-side behavior; Static Site is only for generated files.

How should you prepare an AI-generated project before publishing?

Have the agent create a clean, self-contained deployable directory before opening a provider dashboard. That small preparation step prevents most blank-page and missing-asset failures.

  1. Ask for a deployment inventory. Request the framework, required build command, output directory, start command (if any), environment variables, and the expected entry file. Tell the agent to separate source files from the final browser-ready output.
  2. Confirm the static entry point. For a plain site, index.html should be at the folder root you plan to upload. If a framework builds into dist, build, or another directory, that generated directory—not the source directory—is what a static host normally serves.
  3. Use relative asset paths. Links such as ./styles.css and ./assets/logo.svg are portable. Absolute paths beginning with / can break when the site is published under a project subpath, particularly on a GitHub Pages project URL.
  4. Test locally. Opening an HTML file directly can hide routing and MIME-type errors. Ask the agent to run a local static server, then click every navigation link, load a deep URL, submit forms, and resize the browser.
  5. Remove secrets. Search the repository and generated files for tokens, passwords, private keys, and connection strings. Put server-only values in the host’s environment-variable settings, never in committed front-end code.
  6. Keep a rollback point. Commit the known-good version, or archive the deployable folder. A deployment platform can only restore code that still exists in your repository or local copy.

How do you publish a static folder with Netlify?

Netlify is the shortest path when the agent has produced a local folder and you want a URL immediately. You can drag the folder into the dashboard, use the CLI, or use an AI-tool integration. The CLI also supports an anonymous deployment that can be claimed later; because that deployment is temporary, do not use it as the permanent home for an important site until it is claimed.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Drag-and-drop route

  1. Make a folder containing the final site, with index.html at the folder’s top level.
  2. Open Netlify’s deployment area and drag that folder into the upload target.
  3. Wait for the upload to finish, then open the generated Netlify URL in a private browser window.
  4. If the site is worth keeping, associate the deployment with an account or project so it is not left as an unclaimed temporary URL.

Agent-terminal route

From the directory that contains the deployable files, the documented anonymous command is:

netlify deploy --allow-anonymous

Give the agent the resulting preview or live URL only after you have checked that the command used the intended directory. If the project needs a build, run the build first and deploy its output directory; uploading the source tree instead can result in a page that contains uncompiled framework files rather than a working site.

How do you publish through Cloudflare Pages?

Cloudflare Pages can deploy any static HTML website and assigns a unique *.pages.dev subdomain after a successful deployment. Its Git integration is useful when you want every push to rebuild the site and separate preview deployments for changes.

Git-connected setup

  1. Put the project in GitHub or GitLab and push the version that works locally.
  2. In Pages, create a project and connect the repository. Authorize access only to the repository you intend to publish.
  3. Set the framework preset and build command when a build is required. Set the output directory to the directory that actually contains the finished index.html.
  4. Save the project and wait for the first build. A successful deployment receives a project-specific pages.dev address.
  5. Push a small change to verify that automatic deployments and the preview workflow behave as expected before you make a larger edit.

Common Pages layout mistake

Do not point Pages at a parent directory that contains only source code if the framework writes the website to a child directory. Conversely, do not set an output directory when the repository already contains a ready-to-serve top-level index.html unless the provider’s configuration specifically expects one. A build log that succeeds but produces a blank page usually indicates this mismatch or incorrect asset paths.

How do you publish a site with GitHub Pages?

GitHub Pages hosts HTML, CSS, and JavaScript directly from a repository. It is a natural choice when your agent already edits a GitHub project and you want a push to main to trigger publication through GitHub Actions.

  1. Commit the site to a repository and decide whether the repository and the published Pages site should be public or restricted. Those settings affect who can view the code and the resulting site.
  2. Open the repository’s Settings, then Pages, and choose the Pages source or workflow supported by the repository.
  3. If the project requires a build, add a GitHub Actions workflow that installs dependencies, runs the build, and uploads the generated output. Configure it to deploy on pushes to main.
  4. For a plain static folder, ensure the selected publishing source contains index.html in the location Pages will serve.
  5. After the workflow completes, open the repository’s user or project github.io URL. The first publication can take longer than later pushes, so inspect the Actions run before assuming the URL is broken.

Project sites often live below a path that includes the repository name. Tell the agent that base path when it generates links and asset URLs; otherwise navigation may work at the home page while styles and images return 404 errors on the project URL.

When should you use Render instead of a static host?

Use Render when the generated project must execute server-side code, expose an API, or connect to a database. During service creation, connect the Git provider and choose between Static Site and Web Service. The static option still makes sense for a repository-centered front end, but it does not add a server runtime.

Web Service deployment

  1. Push the project to a connected Git repository.
  2. Create a Render Web Service and select the repository and branch.
  3. Enter the agent’s build command and start command exactly as the project expects. Confirm which port the application listens on and use the platform’s expected port configuration.
  4. Add required environment variables in the service settings. Keep database credentials and signing secrets out of the repository.
  5. Deploy and inspect the service logs. A successful build does not prove that the process started or that its health endpoint responds.

Static Site deployment

Select Static Site when the repository produces browser files and you want Render’s service workflow rather than a file upload. Supply the build command and publish directory, then test the generated Render URL. Switching a static project to Web Service solely because the repository contains a build tool wastes runtime resources and adds a failure point; choose based on whether server code must run after the build.

How do you keep deployment inside an AI coding agent?

An agent can prepare files, run the provider CLI, inspect logs, and make a corrective commit, but you should keep credentials and final approval under your control. A repeatable conversation makes the workflow safer than asking for “deploy this” without constraints.

  1. State the target. Tell the agent whether you want a static host or a runtime, whether the source is local or in Git, and whether the URL is a disposable preview or a site you will retain.
  2. Request a preflight report. Have it list the entry file, build and start commands, output directory, required environment variables, and any absolute URLs or hard-coded ports.
  3. Run the local checks. Ask for a production build, a local server test, a link crawl, and a search for secrets. Fix errors before invoking a provider.
  4. Deploy with the least privilege. Use a provider token scoped to the needed project or repository. Do not paste a master account password into the chat transcript or a source file.
  5. Capture the deployment result. Ask the agent to record the provider, commit identifier, build output, and live or preview URL. This makes a later rollback understandable.
  6. Test from outside the development environment. Open the URL in an incognito window and on a phone or narrow browser. A site that works only because of a local proxy, cached asset, or logged-in session is not ready to share.

What should you test before sharing the URL?

Publishing only confirms that a host accepted files or started a process. A short acceptance test catches broken paths, missing configuration, and accidental exposure.

  • Home page: the expected title, styles, fonts, images, and favicon load without console errors.
  • Navigation: every menu item reaches the intended page, including a direct refresh on a deep URL.
  • Assets: inspect the browser network panel for 404 responses and mixed-content warnings.
  • Responsive layout: check a narrow phone viewport, a tablet width, and a desktop width; test menus, modals, and tables, not just the hero section.
  • Forms and APIs: submit a harmless test value, verify the expected response, and confirm that errors are understandable. Never use real personal data during a first test.
  • Secrets and privacy: view-source and the browser’s loaded scripts to ensure private keys, database URLs, and internal debug data are absent.
  • Performance: compress oversized images, remove unused demo assets, and confirm that the initial page is usable on a slower connection.
  • Rollback: identify the exact commit or upload you would restore if a later agent change breaks production.

What free-host limitations and privacy choices matter?

“Free” describes the plan, not a permanent service-level guarantee. Providers can change quotas, build minutes, bandwidth allowances, file-size limits, retention, sleep behavior, and custom-domain rules. Read the current plan details immediately before launch and set a reminder to revisit them if the site becomes important.

Retention and sleeping

An anonymous Netlify deployment is explicitly temporary, while other services may impose their own retention or inactivity behavior. Treat an unclaimed preview as a test artifact. Keep the source repository and a local archive so a provider policy change does not erase your only copy.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Visibility

A public URL does not necessarily mean the source repository is public, and a private repository does not automatically make every deployed page private. GitHub repository and Pages visibility settings deserve a deliberate review. Do not publish confidential content merely because the host offers a free URL.

Domains and HTTPS

Each route supplies a provider-owned address: a Netlify URL, a pages.dev subdomain, a github.io user or project URL, or a Render service URL. Custom domains may be available, but eligibility, DNS instructions, certificate handling, and free-plan restrictions are provider-specific and can change. Test the provider URL first; add a custom domain only after the deployment itself is stable.

How do you fix the most common deployment failures?

The host shows a 404 for the home page

Check that the served directory contains a file named exactly index.html in the expected case. Recheck the configured publish directory; a successful build that writes to dist will not help if the host is serving the repository root.

Styles and images are missing on a GitHub Pages project URL

Relative paths and the framework’s base-path setting must include the repository subpath. Update the build configuration, rebuild, and test a direct refresh of a nested page instead of relying on client-side navigation from the home page.

The server works locally but crashes on Render

Compare the local and hosted start commands, runtime version, environment variables, and listening port. Read the deployment logs for the first fatal error; adding a Web Service will not fix a missing secret, incompatible dependency, or process that binds only to localhost.

A form appears to work but no data arrives

Determine whether the form has a real server endpoint. A static page cannot persist submissions by itself. Configure an appropriate external form service or deploy an API-backed application, and keep any credentials on the server side.

Which route should you choose?

Use this decision sequence rather than choosing a host by brand familiarity.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Does the site need server execution, an API, or a database? If yes, choose an app-capable service such as Render Web Service. If no, continue.
  2. Is the finished folder local and you need the fastest preview? Use Netlify drag-and-drop or its CLI. Claim an anonymous deployment if you will retain it.
  3. Is the project already in GitHub or GitLab and should every push publish automatically? Choose Cloudflare Pages for Git-based builds and previews, or GitHub Pages when the project is already organized around GitHub Actions and a Pages URL.
  4. Will the site be maintained by several people? Prefer a Git-connected route with preview deployments and a clear rollback commit over repeated manual uploads.
  5. Does the site contain sensitive material? Review repository and deployment visibility before publishing; a free plan is not a confidentiality boundary.

The practical outcome is simple: static output can go live free from an agent through Netlify, Cloudflare Pages, or GitHub Pages, while runtime-dependent output belongs on a service such as Render. Prepare the correct folder, deploy through the route that matches your workflow, and verify the live result before treating the URL as production.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I publish a site without creating a Git repository?

Yes. A local static folder can be uploaded through Netlify’s drag-and-drop workflow or deployed with its CLI. Git becomes valuable when you need repeatable builds, reviewable history, automatic redeploys, and an easy rollback.

Will a free static host run PHP, Python, or Node.js code?

No. Static hosting serves files; it does not keep those language runtimes running. Move the server portion to a Web Service such as Render, or redesign the feature to use a browser-safe external API.

How can I give an agent deployment access without exposing my main account?

Use a provider token or repository credential with the narrowest project and action scope available, store it in the agent’s secret or environment-variable mechanism, and revoke it after the deployment. Never commit the token or paste it into client-side code.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why does my single-page app fail when I refresh a nested route?

The browser requests that nested path directly, and the host may look for a physical file that does not exist. Configure the platform’s single-page-app fallback when supported, or use file-based routes that exist in the published output; test direct refreshes on the actual provider URL.

Can I move the site to another provider later?

Usually, if you retain the repository, build configuration, environment-variable list, and domain DNS access. Export or recreate server-side data separately; a static folder is portable, but a database and provider-specific runtime settings are not automatically copied.
