If a player is harassing you, sending abusive messages, using threatening language, or trying to steal your account, use two different controls on your PS5: Block immediately limits contact, while Report sends a particular profile, message, media item, or voice-chat incident to PlayStation for moderation. You can use both. Press the PS button, open Game Base, open the player’s profile, and choose More (…) > Block. To report, choose More (…) > Report, select a reason, and follow the prompts. PlayStation also lets you block the player at the end of a report.
Block and report at a glance
| Name | Best for | Key spec | Platforms | Checked |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Block | Stopping direct interaction immediately | Hides profiles, activity and personal information from each other; prevents direct messages, party invitations and shared voice or screen interaction | PS5 | Oct 2026 |
| Report | Sending rule-breaking content or behavior to PlayStation for review | Can target a profile, message, screenshot, video, broadcast, comment, group content or voice-chat segment | PS5 | Oct 2026 |
How do I block someone on PS5?
Blocking is the fastest way to stop an unwanted player from contacting you through PlayStation features. It does not tell PlayStation to investigate the player, so report serious or rule-breaking conduct separately.
- Press the PS button on your controller to open the Control Center.
- Select Game Base.
- On the Friends tab, select the player from your list, or choose Search for Players and find the account. You can also select a player from a party’s member list.
- Open the player’s profile.
- Select More (…) > Block.
The block takes effect through PlayStation’s account and social features. If the player is bothering you in a particular game, use the game’s own reporting or mute controls as well when they are available.

What does blocking change?
PlayStation says a blocked player and the person who blocked them cannot view each other’s profile, activity or personal information. The two accounts cannot add each other to parties or watch each other’s screen during Share Screen.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- If another player adds the blocked account to a group, the blocked pair will not see each other’s messages.
- If both accounts are in the same party chat, they will not hear each other’s voice.
- They also cannot watch each other’s screen during Share Screen.
- PlayStation’s safety guidance summarizes the practical result: the unwanted player cannot see your posts, message you or join your party.
Blocking is therefore a privacy and contact control, not a finding of misconduct. It does not provide PlayStation with the message, profile or audio that caused the problem.
How do I report a player or profile on PS5?
Report a profile when the account itself, its visible content or the player’s conduct may breach PlayStation’s Code of Conduct. Identify the account and select the reason that best matches what happened.
- Press the PS button and open Game Base.
- Select the Friends icon.
- Choose Search for Players, or select the player from your friends list.
- Open the player’s profile and select More (…) > Report.
- Choose the reason and follow the on-screen instructions.
- At the end of the report flow, choose the option to block the player if you also want to stop further interaction.
PlayStation’s guidance is to report profiles, player content or messages sent by other players when they breach the Code of Conduct. Use the most specific report available instead of filing a general complaint when a particular message, image or clip is the problem.
How do I report a suspicious message on PS5?
Report the individual message so moderators can review the content that prompted your complaint. This is more precise than reporting a profile when the issue is a single direct message.
- Press the PS button to open the Control Center.
- Select Game Base.
- Select the Messages icon.
- Highlight the suspicious message.
- Press the controller’s Options button and select Report.
- Select Next, choose the reason, and follow the remaining prompts.
- Block the sender at the end if you do not want further contact.
Keep the message available until you have submitted the report if you may need to identify its wording or context. Do not click links in a suspicious message merely to collect more evidence.
How do I report abusive voice chat on PS5?
PS5 voice-chat reporting lets you submit a recent segment of a conversation. Open the voice-chat card for the conversation, select More (…) > Report, choose a reason and follow the prompts.

- Select More (…) > Report.
- Choose the reason that describes the abuse or other Code of Conduct concern.
- Select the relevant speaker. If you cannot tell who was speaking, choose I’m Unsure.
- Select the clip length and submit the report.
A voice report can include a 40-second clip from the last five minutes of conversation. You select a 20-second portion; the system automatically adds 10 seconds before and 10 seconds after it. This gives moderators surrounding context without requiring you to record the entire conversation.

PlayStation says voice chat is not actively monitored or recorded. It records reports of online abuse or harassment for investigation. You can turn Voice Data Collection on or off at Settings > Users and Accounts > Privacy > Voice Data Collection. Turning that setting off does not remove your ability to report another player.
What can I report on PS5?
PlayStation’s PS5 reporting categories cover both account-level material and individual items. Choose the category that matches the place where the conduct appears.
| Reportable item | Typical target | What to identify |
|---|---|---|
| Profile content | A player’s profile | The profile information or visible material that may breach the Code of Conduct |
| Screenshots and videos | A shared image or video | The specific media item and its context |
| Broadcasts and comments | A stream or comment | The broadcast or comment containing the concern |
| Game Base group names, icons or chat messages | A group element | The group name, icon or message |
| Text messages | An individual message | The offending message and sender |
| Voice chats | A recent voice-chat segment | The speaker, or I’m Unsure, plus the available clip |
If the conduct occurs inside a game, PlayStation says to use that game’s in-game reporting feature when one is available. A game’s report menu may have context that the general PlayStation menu cannot capture, such as the match, lobby or character involved.
What happens after you report someone on PlayStation?
Moderators review the report and decide whether the reported content breaches the Code of Conduct. If it does, PlayStation says it removes the content and takes appropriate action against the player who shared it.

Can a report get my account in trouble?
Do not submit a report dishonestly or repeatedly as retaliation. PlayStation says false reporting breaches the Code of Conduct and may lead to a temporary or permanent account suspension. Report the conduct you can identify, select the closest reason, and avoid exaggerating what happened.
Should I block, report, or do both?
Use Block when your immediate goal is to stop contact. Use Report when a specific profile, message, media item, voice segment or behavior may violate the rules. In harassment, scams or repeated abuse, doing both gives you immediate protection while sending the relevant evidence for review.
- Block first when you are receiving a stream of unwanted messages, party invitations or voice contact and need the interruption to stop.
- Report the item when you can point to a particular message, profile element, image, video or voice segment.
- Report and then block when the player is abusive, threatening, repeatedly contacting you or attempting to obtain account information.
- Use the game’s report tool when the misconduct is inside a game and that option is offered.
Blocking and reporting are separate actions. Completing one does not automatically complete the other, although PlayStation offers blocking at the end of its report flow.

Treat an unexpected direct message as suspicious when it asks you to sign in through a link, provide account details or accept an unusual offer. PlayStation gives fake beta-test or tournament invitations, claims that your account was “accidentally reported” and can be restored by the sender, and requests for sign-in information as examples of account-stealing tactics.
- Do not click a sign-in link in the message. Open account services through the normal PlayStation interface instead.
- Do not share your password, verification code, recovery code or other account information.
- Do not provide personal details to prove who you are.
- Report the message using Game Base > Messages, highlight the message, press Options, choose Report, then select a reason.
- Block the sender after submitting the report.
- Review your privacy settings and limit who can send friend requests or messages. PlayStation gives Friends Only as an example for people who do not want messages from unknown players.
A genuine tournament, beta or support process should not require you to surrender your password or authentication codes through a direct-message link. If you already entered credentials into a suspicious page, stop communicating with the sender and use the official account-recovery and security tools rather than the link in the message.
What should I do if a player threatens me?
A credible threat to immediate physical safety is a real-world safety issue as well as a platform-moderation issue. Do not keep arguing with the player or arrange to meet them.

- Use the appropriate PlayStation report flow and block the account.
- If there is an immediate danger, contact your local emergency service or law-enforcement agency.

PlayStation says serious reports involving threats to life or safety, or other unlawful activity, may be escalated for further review and may involve notifying law enforcement or another appropriate authority. Platform reporting does not replace emergency help.

- For a text message: open Game Base > Messages, highlight the message and press Options.
- For voice chat: open the voice-chat card and use More (…) > Report. Select I’m Unsure if you do not know which participant spoke.
- For in-game conduct: use the game’s own reporting feature when available.
If the player is already blocked, retain any relevant content you can still access and use the reporting route attached to that content. Blocking changes what the two accounts can see and do with one another; it is not a substitute for submitting a report.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How can I reduce unwanted contact after reporting?
Use privacy controls to reduce who can reach you while PlayStation reviews a report. In particular, set friend-request or messaging access to a narrower audience, such as Friends Only, when you do not want contact from people you do not know.
For voice incidents, disabling Voice Data Collection is optional and does not prevent reporting. The useful distinction is that voice-data privacy controls govern collection preferences, while the report workflow is the route for submitting a suspected abuse incident.

What evidence should I keep before submitting a report?
Use the original item whenever possible: the profile, exact message, shared media, group element or available voice clip. Note the player’s online ID and the approximate time while the information is visible, but do not continue a risky conversation just to gather more material.

Specific, accurate reports help moderators evaluate the item you selected. A report should describe what the account or content did, not speculate about motives you cannot establish.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I report a player without blocking them on PS5?
Yes. Reporting and blocking are separate controls. During the report flow, blocking is offered as an additional choice, so you can submit the report without selecting it if you still need the account visible for a legitimate reason.
Will a report remove a message immediately?
Not necessarily. PlayStation reviews the report first and then decides whether the content violates its Code of Conduct; removal and account action follow that decision. Use blocking or privacy controls for immediate relief while the review is pending.
Should I answer a suspicious PlayStation direct message?
No. Do not reply with passwords, verification codes or personal information, and do not follow a sign-in link supplied in the message. Report the original message and block the sender instead of prolonging the exchange.
What if the abusive player is in my game but not in my PlayStation messages?
Use the game’s in-game reporting feature when it provides one, because that report can be tied to the match or lobby. You can also open the player through Game Base, report the profile if appropriate and block the account.
