Yes. With PlayStation Plus Premium, you can stream select games to a PS5 console or, for supported PS5 titles, to a PlayStation Portal without downloading them first. You need a PlayStation account and broadband internet; Portal streaming also requires the Portal device, and child accounts cannot use the feature. The important catch is that this is not a way to stream every game in your library: eligibility depends on the title, your region, and Sony’s current catalog.
What do you need for PS5 cloud streaming?
You need a PlayStation Plus Premium membership, a PlayStation account, and a broadband connection. To stream on a PS5, use the console; to stream on a Portal, you need the Portal remote player. Sony’s stated minimum to start a cloud-streaming session is 5 Mbps in both upload and download speed. A child account cannot use the feature.
Premium is the relevant subscription tier: Sony lists cloud streaming as a Premium benefit, not an Essential or Extra benefit. The subscription gives access to the streaming feature, but it does not make every game streamable. Each game must be eligible for cloud streaming in your country or region.
Internet speed and resolution
Sony’s guidance gives different figures on different support pages. The Portal support page lists 7 Mbps for 720p and 13 Mbps for 1080p; a separate PlayStation Plus support page recommends 15 Mbps for 1080p. These are thresholds or recommendations, not guarantees of image quality. Sony notes that performance varies with the game and network conditions.
#1 Best Overall
- Put Your PS5 in the Palm of Your Hand - PlayStation Portal Remote Player gives you access to the games on your PS5 over your home Wi-Fi*, letting you jump right into gaming without needing to play on a TV.
- Play Your Game Collection - PlayStation Portal Remote Player can play compatible games you have installed on your PS5 console, including your favorite games for PS5 and PS4.**
- Store and Protect – Sturdy outer shell, molded interior and dual zipper pulls provides protection for the PlayStation Portal remote player
- Charging Cable Pass-through – Allows a charging cable to be plugged into the PS Portal while stored inside the case
- Charge and Display – Charge the PlayStation Portal remote player and display it next to your PlayStation5 console
| Connection speed | Sony’s stated use | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| 5 Mbps upload and download | Minimum to establish a cloud-streaming session | Session-entry minimum in Sony’s general cloud-streaming guidance. |
| 7 Mbps | 720p on Portal | Portal support-page threshold. |
| 13 Mbps | 1080p on Portal | Portal support-page threshold. |
| 15 Mbps | 1080p | Recommendation on Sony’s separate PlayStation Plus support page. |
The 13 Mbps and 15 Mbps figures are not interchangeable statements from one unified specification: they come from different Sony pages. If your connection is near a stated minimum, the connection speed alone cannot promise a smooth session, because actual performance also depends on the network and the game.
Which games can you stream?
The eligible library is selective. Sony identifies three broad sources: select digital PS5 games in your PlayStation Store library, hundreds of titles in the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and Classics Catalog, and select free-to-play games. The current answer for a particular title is Sony’s Cloud Streaming Game Finder; the list changes over time and varies by country or region.
A digital game appearing in your library does not automatically qualify. Likewise, being included in a PlayStation catalog does not by itself establish that the title is streamable. Check the title in the game finder before choosing cloud streaming, especially if you are deciding whether to download or buy a game.

In its November 5, 2025 announcement, Sony said Portal cloud streaming launched with select digital PS5 games in users’ libraries, including Astro Bot, Borderlands 4, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Fortnite, Ghost of Yōtei, Grand Theft Auto V, and Resident Evil 4. Sony also named catalog examples including Cyberpunk 2077, God of War Ragnarök, Hogwarts Legacy, Sword of the Sea, and The Last of Us Part II Remastered.
Those are examples from the launch announcement, not a permanent eligibility list. A title’s present availability should be confirmed in the game finder for your region rather than inferred from its appearance in the 2025 announcement.
How do you start streaming on a PS5?
On the console, choose an eligible title from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and select Stream. The path is short, but the title must be marked as streamable for your account and region.

- Open PlayStation Plus on your PS5.
- Go to the Game Catalog.
- Choose a game that is eligible for cloud streaming.
- Select Stream to launch the session.
If the game does not offer the Stream option, do not assume that a faster connection or a different account setting will make it eligible. Confirm the title’s current status in Sony’s game finder; if streaming is unavailable, downloading may be the available way to play it on the console.
How do you start cloud streaming on PlayStation Portal?
On Portal, start from the Cloud Streaming area on the Home screen. Choose a game shown in one of the available cloud-streaming sections, then launch it.
- On the Portal Home screen, open the Cloud Streaming tab.
- Choose a title from Cloud Streaming with PlayStation Plus Premium, PlayStation Plus streaming games, or an eligible game in Your Library.
- Select the game and launch it.
The Portal route is for supported PS5 titles; Portal cloud streaming does not mean that the entire PS5 library can be played on the handheld. Sony’s Portal guidance lists 5 Mbps as the minimum to establish a session, with separate 720p and 1080p thresholds shown above.
What is different about streaming on PS5 and Portal?
The main difference is the device you play on, not a promise of a broader library. Sony supports streaming select games directly on a PS5 and supports Portal cloud streaming for supported PS5 titles. Both paths depend on Premium, account eligibility, internet access, and a title that Sony currently allows to stream.
| Factor | PS5 console | PlayStation Portal |
|---|---|---|
| Device | PS5 console | PlayStation Portal remote player |
| Where you play | On the console | On the Portal device |
| Game eligibility | Select digital PS5 games, catalog games, and select free-to-play games, subject to current availability | Supported PS5 titles from eligible cloud-streaming sections and Your Library |
| Account age | Child accounts cannot use cloud streaming | Adult account required |
| Internet guidance | 5 Mbps upload and download minimum to start a session; Sony separately recommends 15 Mbps for 1080p | 5 Mbps to start; 7 Mbps for 720p and 13 Mbps for 1080p on the Portal support page |
| Unavailable features during streaming | Broadcasting, Share Play, Share Screen, Remote Play, cameras, mouse, keyboard, PSVR, and third-party controllers are listed as unsupported | Portal cloud streaming is subject to the same listed streaming limitations |
Cloud streaming and Remote Play are not the same session type. Sony lists Remote Play as unsupported while streaming a game, so do not plan to use Remote Play as an added feature during an active cloud-streaming session.

The key limits are title eligibility, regional availability, account age, network conditions, and features that are unavailable while a game is streaming. These are product constraints, not settings that can necessarily be fixed by changing your connection or restarting a game.

- Network performance is variable: meeting a minimum speed does not guarantee a particular image or play experience; Sony says performance depends on the game and network conditions.
- Some PlayStation features are unavailable in a streaming session: broadcasting, Share Play, Share Screen, Remote Play, HD Camera and PlayStation Camera, mouse and keyboard, PSVR, and third-party controllers are listed as unsupported.
- A queue may occur: Sony notes that a queue can be presented before streaming begins.
- Child accounts are excluded: Portal cloud streaming requires an adult account, and Sony’s general guidance says child accounts cannot use cloud streaming.
How much does PS5 cloud streaming cost?
Cloud streaming is included with PlayStation Plus Premium; Sony does not list it as a benefit of Essential or Extra. In the United States, the Premium page accessed in 2026 displayed prices of $19.99 monthly, $54.99 quarterly, and $159.99 annually. Sony’s plan prices can change, and the figures are specific to the U.S. page rather than a worldwide price list.
The price of Premium is separate from the question of whether a particular game is included or eligible. A catalog title may be available through the subscription, while select digital games in your library and select free-to-play titles are other eligibility routes. Check the game finder and the current subscription terms before paying on the assumption that one specific game will be available to stream.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to own a PS5 to use cloud streaming on Portal?
Sony’s stated Portal cloud-streaming requirements name the Portal device, a PlayStation account, Premium, and broadband; they do not list a PS5 console as a requirement for a Portal cloud session. Sony does list Remote Play as unsupported during cloud streaming, which is a separate reason not to treat Portal cloud play as a Remote Play session.

Yes, that is the point of cloud streaming: an eligible title launches as a streaming session rather than requiring a local game download first. It does not remove the need for the game to be eligible in your region or for the right account and subscription.
What is the cheapest U.S. PlayStation Plus Premium plan?
The U.S. plan page accessed in 2026 displayed an annual option at $159.99, versus $19.99 monthly and $54.99 quarterly. Prices and available plans can change, so confirm the current checkout page before subscribing.
