The ADXL335 is a three-axis analog accelerometer: connect its X, Y and Z voltage outputs to three analog-capable inputs on the specific ESP32 Feather in your build. The exact pin numbers, power connection and conversion code depend on the Feather model and sensor breakout, which the project title does not identify. Confirm those parts before wiring or interpreting readings.

What the ADXL335 measures

Analog Devices specifies the ADXL335 as a three-axis accelerometer with a minimum full-scale measurement range of ±3 g. It can sense static acceleration, including gravity for tilt, as well as dynamic acceleration from motion, shock or vibration. Its X, Y and Z outputs are voltages, not digital readings sent over I²C or SPI; firmware must acquire them through analog inputs.

The device’s specified supply range is 1.8 V to 3.6 V. Those limits describe the ADXL335 itself, not necessarily a breakout board that may add a regulator or other circuitry. Check the breakout documentation before connecting power, and make sure its output voltages are safe for the Feather’s analog inputs. Analog Devices’ ADXL335 product page and datasheet provide the component specifications.

Identify the Feather before choosing pins

“ESP32 Feather” does not identify one exact board. Adafruit describes the HUZZAH32 as its ESP32-based Feather and documents analog reads, but the project title alone does not establish that this is the board used. Other ESP32-family Feather models can have different pinouts and ADC details. Use the documentation for the exact model and revision; an ESP32-S2 pin list, for example, is not a HUZZAH32 pin map. Adafruit’s ESP32-S2 Feather pinout guide is specific to that different board.

How to connect an ADXL335 to an ESP32 Feather

The title does not establish an exact schematic, pin assignment or breakout implementation. At a functional level, the sensor needs a compatible supply and common ground, and each axis output must reach an analog-capable Feather input.

  1. Check the hardware. Identify the Feather model and revision, and confirm whether the ADXL335 is a bare component or a breakout. Read the breakout’s power and output specifications rather than assuming they match the bare sensor.
  2. Choose a compatible supply. Keep the ADXL335 supply within 1.8 V to 3.6 V. Confirm the selected breakout’s requirements and ensure its output voltages do not exceed the chosen Feather’s input limits.
  3. Connect ground and outputs. Join sensor and Feather ground. Route XOUT, YOUT and ZOUT to three analog-capable inputs supported by that Feather. Select pins from its board-specific documentation; no exact pin numbers can be established from the project title.
  4. Verify before powering up. Check the module labels and wiring, then confirm that the sensor’s output range is compatible with the Feather ADC. The correct ADC configuration and software calls depend on the board and firmware framework.

How to read and convert the three outputs

Acquire each axis as an analog voltage or ADC reading using the method supported by the selected Feather and framework. The ADXL335’s sensitivity and zero-g bias are ratiometric to its supply voltage, so an ADC count cannot be turned into acceleration with a universally valid fixed factor. Record the sensor supply and ADC configuration, then calibrate offsets and scale on the assembled device before treating converted values as acceleration.

Analog Devices gives typical sensitivity examples of 195 mV/g at a 2 V supply and 360 mV/g at a 3.6 V supply in its 2010 datasheet. These are component specifications at stated supply conditions, not measurements or calibration values for this project. The project information does not establish its supply voltage, ADC settings, calibration procedure, orientation convention, sampling rate or measured accuracy.

Choose bandwidth for the motion you need to capture

The ADXL335’s bandwidth is set with an external capacitor for each axis. The datasheet specifies adjustable ranges of 0.5 Hz to 1600 Hz for X and Y, and 0.5 Hz to 550 Hz for Z. These are sensor bandwidth ranges, not a recommended firmware sample rate. Select bandwidth and sampling for the motion being measured: a setting that preserves faster changes can also pass more noise. The appropriate choice depends on the application and is not specified for this build.

When an analog accelerometer is the right fit

The ADXL335’s analog outputs make direct ADC acquisition central to the design: the host needs three suitable analog inputs, compatible voltage levels and firmware that reads them. Analog Devices also lists the ADXL345 as a digital accelerometer with SPI and I²C interfaces. That is an interface distinction, not a recommendation to replace the named project sensor; the choice depends on host compatibility and integration needs.
