Our verdict on Thundermail
Thundermail is a paid, ad-free hosted email service from Thunderbird and MZLA Technologies Corporation. It is aimed at individuals and organizations that want custom-domain email with desktop and mobile access, calendar and contacts, appointment scheduling, and encrypted file sharing in one subscription. The Early Bird plan includes one inbox, 15 email addresses, three custom domains, and compatibility with Thunderbird or other email applications through IMAP, JMAP, and SMTP. Access is available on the web, Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android.
Pricing is straightforward: the Early Bird Plan costs $6 per month when billed annually. It includes 30 GB of mail storage and 60 GB of Send storage, plus Thundermail, Appointment, and Send together. Appointment adds booking links for scheduling, while Send provides end-to-end encrypted file sharing. Zoom and external calendars are listed integrations, giving the bundle a practical fit for scheduling alongside hosted mail. The plan structure is simple, but only the Early Bird tier is presented.
Thundermail’s strongest distinction is its combination of hosted email and adjacent productivity tools rather than email alone. Custom domains, multiple addresses, calendar, contacts, client protocols, and encrypted file sharing cover a broad set of everyday communication needs. However, the service is currently in beta and offered to waitlisted users in waves, which makes availability a consideration for anyone seeking immediate deployment. Email encryption is not presented as a core feature, so buyers prioritizing encrypted email itself should consider an alternative centered on that capability. Thundermail fits users who want hosted mail, scheduling, and encrypted file sharing in one paid service; it is less suitable for those who need a mature, widely available encrypted-email product.
