Our verdict on Taskpony

Taskpony is a free, open-source task manager designed for one person. It runs through a responsive browser interface on desktop and mobile screens, with support for web and Linux deployments. Users can manage tasks across multiple lists, add descriptions, edit items, mark tasks complete, and create repeating tasks based on completion intervals. That makes it a focused fit for solo users who want a personal task list without a broader collaboration or project-management layer.

Its strongest practical feature set is the combination of recurring work and personal data control. Filtering, sorting, pagination, completed-task views, and live reload when another browser updates the database support day-to-day list management. Task data is stored in a portable SQLite file, and automatic daily database backups add a useful recovery layer. Export options include CSV, PDF, clipboard, and print, which suits users who need to move or reference their lists outside the browser. Deployment is available through Docker, Docker Compose, or a Linux systemd service, including on personal servers, Raspberry Pis, or small VPS instances.

The trade-off is a deliberately narrow scope. Taskpony is explicitly single-user, so it is not suited to teams, shared ownership, or collaborative task workflows. It also has no built-in authentication; external authentication is recommended for internet-facing deployments, adding responsibility for the person hosting it. Calendar synchronization, subtasks, and verified reminders are not part of the listed feature set, and platform support centers on the web and Linux. Choose Taskpony if you want a free, open-source personal list with recurring tasks, exports, and local SQLite-based storage. Choose another to-do app if collaboration, calendar integration, richer task hierarchies, or broader platform coverage matters more.
