Our verdict on SoftPlot
SoftPlot is a Windows desktop CAD application for designing lighting plots for theatre, film, television, and other entertainment productions. It is aimed at students and professionals, with a feature set suited to solo designers and small teams that need to lay out fixtures and trusses and prepare paperwork. Drawings can be viewed in plan, cross-section, and elevation, and custom symbols can be placed or edited.
Its paperwork and file workflow are central strengths. SoftPlot supports gel lists and instrument schedules, plus printable inventory, pattern, and channel schedule reports. DXF import and export can support exchange with other CAD workflows, while bitmap and JPEG images can be used as backdrops or set pieces. The described feature set focuses on plotting and documentation; it does not establish live previsualization, so buyers who need to evaluate lighting looks in real time should compare alternatives that explicitly provide that capability.
According to Crescit's pricing page, SoftPlot Monthly costs $9.99 per month and SoftPlot Yearly costs $99 per year. Both plans list a graphical lighting design tool for fixtures and trusses. SoftPlot has no free plan, so prospective users should account for the paid subscription. The desktop application connects to Crescit Cloud for project sharing and access to fixture, gobo, and gel resources, and support is by email. Choose SoftPlot if Windows-based plot drafting, schedules, and DXF exchange are the priorities; look elsewhere if your workflow depends on another operating system or integrations that are not part of its described capabilities.
