Our verdict on Vectorworks Vision

Vectorworks Vision is desktop previsualization software for entertainment design and production professionals. It simulates conventional and moving lights, video, and other effects in an event venue context, helping teams review cues and lighting looks before load-in. It can run as a standalone application or alongside Vectorworks software, including Spotlight and Design Suite, and supports macOS and Windows. Production teams planning visual elements in advance are its clearest fit; those seeking plot paperwork as the main workflow may want a different tool.

The strongest angle is its console-connected visualization workflow. Vision works with lighting consoles, and supports DMX, MA-Net2, MA-Net3, and Multi-Input, with specific protocol availability depending on platform. Users can customize fixture colors, gobos, lenses, shutters, and other parameters, as well as edit DMX patch addresses for lighting devices, projectors, and other scene items. Disguise EVO is also listed among its integrations. Rendered scenes can be saved as video files, giving teams an output for reviewing or sharing looks beyond the venue simulation itself.

Vision is paid, with Vision Unlimited offered monthly or annually; the annual plan is listed at $1,530.00 billed annually. The vendor says eligible Service Select members with Spotlight or Design Suite can request a Vision license at no additional cost, while annual subscribers receive Vision Unlimited and monthly subscribers and some perpetual-license holders receive Vision Plus with four universes. It is therefore worth considering alongside existing Vectorworks licenses and eligibility, rather than as a standalone purchase. Choose Vision when previsualization and cue review are central; it is less suited to teams whose priority is lighting plot documentation.
