Our verdict on Semgrep AppSec Platform
Semgrep AppSec Platform is a cloud-based application security platform for development and security teams that need to scan source code, open-source dependencies, and hardcoded secrets. Its scope combines SAST with cross-file and cross-function analysis, software composition analysis with dependency reachability, semantic and entropy-based secrets detection, AI-assisted finding triage and remediation, policy enforcement, pull-request feedback, managed repository scanning, and SBOM generation through an API. It is particularly suited to teams that want code-centered AppSec with a free entry point and developer workflow integrations.
Pricing is organized around contributors and monthly billing. The Free Edition costs $0 per contributor per month and includes Code and Supply Chain, up to 10 repositories, a maximum of 10 contributors, and 60 AI credits. Code costs $30 per contributor per month and adds SAST with cross-file analysis, AI-powered detection, triage, and remediation, plus single sign-on. Supply Chain also costs $30 per contributor per month and includes software composition analysis, reachability analysis, SBOM generation, and license compliance checking. Secrets costs $15 per contributor per month and includes semantic secrets analysis, entropy analysis, and secret validation. The Enterprise plan adds on-premises source-code-management support, custom CI/CD integrations, a dedicated account manager, optional dedicated infrastructure, and unlimited repositories and contributors.
The platform fits established developer workflows through GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Jenkins, CircleCI, Azure, Buildkite, Slack, Email, Webhooks, VS Code, JetBrains, Jira, OpenID Connect, and SAML integrations. Pull-request and merge-request findings, comments, merge controls, and a policy engine connect security decisions to code delivery. The cloud-only model and separate paid capabilities may be less suitable for organizations seeking fully self-hosted deployment or one bundled commercial tier. Choose Semgrep AppSec Platform for affordable, developer-oriented coverage across code, dependencies, and secrets; consider an alternative when deployment control or consolidated enterprise packaging is the priority.
