Our verdict on Raven

Raven is a native note-taking app for Mac, iPhone, and iPad, built around plain Markdown files stored in folders users control. It suits people who want personal notes that remain readable as files, with offline reading and editing rather than a workspace centered on sharing. Its core organization tools include folders, tags, backlinks, full-text search, wiki links, tables, images, checklists, and code blocks. Daily and weekly journals add structure for recurring personal writing.

The feature depth extends beyond basic notes without losing that file-based focus. Tasks support due dates, reminders, and Kanban boards, while Widgets, Shortcuts, and Share Sheet capture provide Apple-oriented ways to add information. Optional sync connects notes across Mac, iPhone, and iPad. Raven also supports permissioned automation with Claude, Codex, Cursor, and compatible MCP clients, giving users a way to make files available to those tools while retaining control over the underlying folders.

Raven has one paid Annual plan at US$25 per year, including the app and future updates. There is no free plan, so it is a paid choice from the start. The platform scope is also narrow: macOS and iOS support makes it appropriate for Apple-device users, but not for people who need broader operating-system coverage. Sharing and real-time collaboration are not part of the product’s stated category capabilities. Pick Raven for private, offline Markdown notes, personal journals, tasks, and Apple capture workflows. Choose an alternative if team collaboration, note sharing, or a free entry tier is central to your requirements.
