A broad ITIL-aligned platform for large organizations managing complex change.

OpenText SMAX, now presented as OpenText Service Management, is an IT service management platform for organizations coordinating IT services, assets, configuration items, and broader enterprise services. Its coverage includes ITIL-aligned change, incident, problem, release, knowledge, service-level, catalog, and configuration management. Large IT organizations that need change controls connected to a CMDB, service catalog, workflow automation, and enterprise service processes are the clearest fit.
The published plans show two editions. OpenText Service Management Express includes ITSM capabilities for change, incident, knowledge, problem, request, service request, service level, and survey management, along with a service portal, mobile app, reports and dashboards, an integration platform, Studio for workflow apps, and a native CMDB. Premium includes everything in Express and adds IT asset and procurement management, idea and proposal management, contract management, and vendor management. Pricing is contact-sales, and the 14-day offer is a hosted trial rather than a permanent free plan.
Change management is supported by codeless workflow, form, business-rule, process, and notification configuration, plus approvals, risk assessment, change calendars, emergency changes, audit trails, and CMDB linking. AI-assisted change analytics and change-success recommendations add analysis to the process, while automatic configuration-item detection helps surface impact. OpenText lists integrations with OpenText ITOM, third-party products, AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud, with web, iOS, Android, API, and self-hosted support. Choose it when ITIL breadth and deployment flexibility matter; teams seeking a narrower tool or publicly listed pricing may prefer a simpler alternative.
