Our verdict on Macro Recorder

Macro Recorder is desktop automation software from Bartels Media GmbH for individuals, professionals, and organizations that need to repeat mouse, keyboard, window-focus, timing, browser, or data-entry procedures without writing traditional code. It records actions on Windows and macOS, turns them into editable macro steps, and replays them with configurable repetition counts and playback speed. The product suits users automating recurring desktop workflows, browser tasks, testing procedures, and other sequences that are easier to demonstrate than program from scratch.

The edition structure determines how far the automation can go. Freeware covers macro recording and playback, while Standard adds more than 10 repetitions, program execution, and Goto and repeat. Professional adds SmartClick, image and OCR text recognition, Macro Scheduler, and command-line parameters. Enterprise adds PhraseExpress support, AI support, variables, and barcode and QR code support. The published purchase model is a one-time payment, with paid editions starting at 99.95. That makes the free edition useful for straightforward playback, while users needing recognition, scheduling, variables, or broader control need to move up the range.

Its main strength is breadth across desktop and browser automation: the macro editor works alongside web-page text extraction, screenshots, pixel-color detection, and visual recognition. Macros can be started from third-party applications through command-line parameters, and optional cloud-based or self-hosted AI integrations include OpenAI, Anthropic, and Ollama. Scheduling is supported through Microsoft Windows Task Scheduler, which is a more natural fit for Windows-based workflows than for Mac-only environments. Choose Macro Recorder for recorded desktop procedures spanning Windows and macOS, especially when visual or text recognition matters. Choose an alternative if you need a Freeware edition with advanced capabilities or scheduling centered on macOS.
