Our verdict on LIGHTCONVERSE
For live-show teams coordinating lighting with video, projection mapping, lasers and other production elements, LIGHTCONVERSE provides real-time 3D visualization on Windows. Its editions range from basic 3D operation and onboard show control to interactive and full 3D operation. The separate LIGHTCONVERSE TOOLS program focuses on stage layouts, equipment inventory and project documentation. This breadth suits productions where multiple show disciplines need to be considered together, rather than teams looking only for a lighting plot or paperwork tool.
The edition differences shape the workflow. LIGHTCONVERSE Net includes DMX input and output via Art-Net or an additional USB interface, while Media adds video texturing and laser visualization. Trace adds dynamic layers, performer tracking and camera path animation; Unlimited includes full 3D operation, tracking, two video outputs and moving-object collision detection. DMX protocols beyond Art-Net and sACN can depend on the license. The separate TOOLS program supports 3D stage design, equipment warehouse databases, truss and scaffold snapping, and custom project documentation and printing. Buyers should match required capabilities to the specific edition before choosing.
Its ecosystem includes Art-Net, sACN, ACDI, Hog, MA-Net, Hippo-Net, Pangolin and Lasergraph DSP, plus design-software integrations including AutoCAD, Vectorworks, SketchUp, 3ds Max and Maya. High-resolution video and screenshot capture and offline rendering support presentation workflows. The trade-off is a Windows-only desktop product with capabilities divided across paid editions; teams needing a simpler or less specialized workflow may prefer a narrower tool. The vendor's listed downloads are older editions, and version freshness is unclear. LIGHTCONVERSE fits productions that value broad visualization and integration; it is less suitable where current release clarity or cross-platform operation is essential.
