Our verdict on Hydra

Hydra is a virtual desktop management platform from Login VSI for organizations and managed service providers running Azure Virtual Desktop, Windows 365, and hybrid Azure environments. It centralizes administration for host pools, sessions, Cloud PCs, images, scaling, user assignments, and operational automation. Support covers pooled and personal desktops, FSLogix profile operations, published remote applications, GPU-enabled host configurations, and public or private Azure networking models. Web, Windows, and self-hosted deployment options support hybrid operating models.

Pricing is structured around a free Community Edition, a 30-day free trial, and paid plans. Community Edition includes core autoscaling and image management, with limited tenants and host pools plus community support. Hydra for AVD costs $5 per peak concurrent user per month and adds autoscaling, power optimization, image lifecycle management, real-time session visibility, and multi-tenant management. Hydra for Windows 365 costs $1 per user per month and includes Cloud PC provisioning, centralized lifecycle management, custom image control, provisioning policy management, and session and performance visibility. The Annual Enterprise Plan uses volume-based pricing and adds unified AVD and Windows 365 support, burst protection, priority response access and SLA, and on-demand video and phone support.

Hydra’s strongest fit is for teams that already operate Microsoft desktop services and need tighter control over provisioning, images, sessions, profiles, applications, and infrastructure cost. Integrations include Azure Virtual Desktop, Windows 365, Azure Local, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Intune, Azure Files, Azure NetApp Files, Azure Log Analytics, and Azure Key Vault. Hyper-V hybrid support is generally available, while VMware vSphere support is listed as private preview. Choose Hydra when management and cost control are the priority; choose a standalone VDI platform instead when desktop delivery itself, rather than an adjacent management layer, is the main requirement.
