Our verdict on Harmony Music
Harmony Music is a free, open-source music streaming and playback application for people who want ad-free listening across Android, Windows, and Linux. It supports YouTube and YouTube Music streaming, local song imports, offline downloads and caching, playlists, bookmarks, lyrics, background playback, radio, equalizer support, Android Auto, and a sleep timer. The project does not require a login and is maintained as a community continuation of an earlier Harmony Music project under a GPL v3-based license.
Its strongest fit is a music-first setup that combines network playback with a personal local library. Users can import and play local songs while also creating playlists, bookmarking tracks, viewing synchronized or plain lyrics, and saving music for offline listening. Background playback and Android Auto extend the application beyond a basic desktop player, while the radio feature, equalizer support, and sleep timer add useful listening controls without changing its focused scope.
Platform and ecosystem fit define the main trade-offs. Harmony Music is available for Android, Windows, and Linux, with integrations for YouTube, YouTube Music, Piped, and Android Auto. That makes it a practical choice for users already centered on those services and platforms, but it is less suitable for people seeking a broader media player or support across other operating systems. Choose Harmony Music for free, ad-free music streaming with local playback and downloads; choose an alternative if your priority is media beyond music or a wider platform footprint.
