Our verdict on Google Cloud Infrastructure Manager
Google Cloud Infrastructure Manager is a managed service for deploying and managing Google Cloud infrastructure with Terraform configurations. It is intended for teams running Infrastructure as Code workflows on Google Cloud, with support for HCL configurations, Google Cloud Terraform providers, and managed deployment state. The service focuses on infrastructure lifecycle management through deployments and revisions; it does not manage application deployment onto those resources.
Its strongest capabilities center on deployment control and visibility. Teams can preview proposed changes before applying them, inspect and modify deployment state files, import deployed resources into Terraform state, and view resource drift in preview deployments. Terraform operations run through Cloud Build, while configurations can be stored in Cloud Storage, Git repositories, or local directories. This gives the service a clear fit for organizations already working within Google Cloud’s surrounding services and workflows.
Pricing is usage-based rather than subscription-based: charges apply to Cloud Build execution and Cloud Storage storage. There is no free plan, so teams should account for those operating costs when evaluating the service. Google Cloud Infrastructure Manager is a strong choice for teams standardizing Terraform deployments on Google Cloud and wanting managed state, previews, imports, and drift visibility through Google Cloud CLI or the REST API. Teams needing multi-cloud support or self-hosted Terraform execution should choose a different infrastructure-as-code tool.
