Our verdict on Ellipsis
Ellipsis is a cloud platform for automated GitHub pull-request reviews and coding-agent workflows. It reviews changes as commits arrive, inspects code, can run tests, and posts findings as GitHub reviews. Individual developers can use it with a Claude Code or Codex subscription, while engineering organizations can configure repositories, branches, paths, labels, drafts, and authors. Its audience is teams that want AI-assisted review inside an existing GitHub workflow, with more control than a basic automated checker.
Pricing is structured around access, usage, deployment, and support rather than fixed per-seat organization plans. The Individuals plan is free with a Claude Code or Codex subscription. Managed SaaS charges for tokens plus a 10% platform fee, with CPU and memory billed by usage and no per-seat fees or idle charges. Your AWS Account deploys into the customer’s AWS VPC; AWS costs are billed separately. Optional monthly support packages are Standard Support at $5,000 with a shared support engineer and 48-hour first response, Advanced Support at $10,000 with a 24-hour first response, and Premier Support at $15,000 with a named support engineer and 4-hour first response.
The strongest differentiator is review control. Teams can define YAML-based scope, dependencies, compute, permissions, budgets, specialist reviewers, and gatekeeper filtering. Per-review spending controls, session transcripts, recaps, search, cost tracking, and activity tracking add visibility around agent work. Scoped credentials and isolated cloud sandboxes support contained execution, while deployment into a customer’s AWS VPC keeps credentials, code, and LLM calls within that environment. REST API and agent CLI access extend the workflow beyond the web interface, with Linear, Slack, Sentry, and Jira integrations. Ellipsis suits GitHub teams that value configurable, execution-aware reviews; teams centered on another code host or seeking simple fixed-price billing should choose a different approach.
