Our verdict on doubleTwist
doubleTwist is a media player and podcast manager centered on Android devices. It is designed for people who keep music locally, organize playlists and podcasts, and want to send audio to compatible speakers or displays. The free version includes basic music playback, podcast management, and a free download rather than a trial. Its platform coverage includes Android, Windows, and macOS, with the computer applications supporting music and playlist synchronization.
Its strongest fit is the combination of local playback and ecosystem connections. doubleTwist supports Chromecast, AirPlay, and UPnP/DLNA playback and casting, while integrations with iTunes and Windows Media Player support library synchronization. Android Auto, Android Wear, and Last.fm are also listed integrations. For audio libraries, format support includes MP3, AAC/M4A, ALAC/M4A, WAV, Ogg Vorbis, Ogg Opus, WMA, FLAC, DTS in WAV/FLAC, and DSD. This makes the product more suitable for Android-centered audio management than for users seeking a general-purpose media player.
The Pro tier adds the features most relevant to listeners who want more control over playback: a 10-band equalizer, SuperSound, gapless playback, lossless FLAC and ALAC playback, expanded casting support, and podcast features. These capabilities are separate from the free plan, so users who only need basic local playback may have enough without upgrading, while listeners focused on higher-quality playback or multi-device streaming will need Pro. doubleTwist is a sensible choice for Android users with local music and podcast libraries; users primarily looking for subtitle-driven video playback or a broad video-first experience should consider a different type of media player.
