Our verdict on Docker Hub
Docker Hub is a hosted container registry for developers, teams, and organizations that need to store, version, distribute, and share container images. It supports public and private repositories, container image tagging, OCI artifacts such as Helm charts and SBOMs, and access through the web, API, Docker CLI, and MCP server. Its scope suits developers sharing images publicly, teams managing private repositories, and organizations that need Docker-centered distribution workflows.
The plan structure covers individual and organizational use. Docker Personal includes unlimited public repositories, 1 private Docker Hub repository, and 100 Docker Hub pulls per hour when logged in. Docker Pro adds unlimited Docker Hub pull rate, 1 user, and Docker Scout-enabled repositories. Docker Team adds unlimited private repositories, role-based access control, up to 100 users, and 1 Docker Hub organization. Docker Business adds unlimited private repositories, Image and Registry Access Management, Single Sign-On, and unlimited Docker Hub organizations. The main tradeoff is that private repository capacity and organizational governance expand across higher tiers rather than appearing in the individual plans.
Docker Hub fits ecosystems already using Docker tooling and related artifact workflows. Integrations include GitHub, Bitbucket, Docker Scout, Docker CLI, ORAS CLI, and Helm CLI. Static vulnerability scanning, Docker Scout image analysis, immutable tag settings, webhooks, trusted content, and the Docker Verified Publisher program add controls around distribution and automation. Teams needing Docker-native workflows and a mix of public, private, and OCI artifacts should consider Docker Hub. Organizations that require advanced access management or Single Sign-On need the Business plan, while users seeking more private repositories than Personal provides should look beyond that entry tier.
