Our verdict on Better Stack

Better Stack combines observability and IT incident management for software engineering and operations teams. It brings incident creation, tracking, on-call scheduling, escalation policies, monitoring alerts, collaboration, post-mortems, status pages, and runbooks into one platform. Incidents can start from monitors, integrations, users, Slack, email, webhooks, phone calls, or the API, then move through acknowledgement, routing, comments, timelines, and stakeholder updates. Teams can work through web, iOS, Android, API, and chat-based interfaces, while public or private status pages provide customer-facing updates.

The published plans show a useful free starting point. Free includes 10 monitors and heartbeats, 1 status page, Slack and email alerts, and 3 GB of logs retained for 3 days. Responder costs $29 per license per month with annual billing and adds on-call scheduling, unlimited phone call alerts, unlimited SMS, advanced incident escalations, incident timelines, and manual and AI post-mortems. That makes the pricing straightforward, but the paid entry point is relatively high for teams that need core on-call and escalation capabilities rather than only monitoring and basic alerts.

Its ecosystem fit is a major strength. Better Stack connects with Slack, Microsoft Teams, Google Calendar, Outlook Calendar, Datadog, New Relic, Prometheus, Grafana, Zabbix, Intercom, AWS CloudWatch, Amazon SNS, Google Cloud, Jira, and Linear. Slack-based incident alerts and actions, catalog-based routing, metadata, and runbooks support coordinated response across existing workflows. Choose Better Stack if your team wants broad incident collaboration spanning detection, response, communication, and review. Teams needing only lightweight scheduling or a lower-cost paid entry point may prefer a narrower alternative.
