Paramount is reportedly developing a feature film based on the Cyberpunk 2077 game franchise, according to a TheWrap report published October 8, 2026. The report names producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura and says CD PROJEKT RED, the game’s developer and franchise rights holder, will also produce. Neither Paramount nor CD PROJEKT RED has published an announcement that confirms the project in the material available so far, so treat the film as a reported development rather than a confirmed production.

TheWrap’s October 8, 2026 article is the only report of the Paramount film in the available reporting. It describes a feature-film adaptation rather than a series, and it places three parties in development or producer roles:

That is unknown. TheWrap specifically says Reeves’ return is not established, and nothing in the report confirms that he will reprise Johnny Silverhand or appear in any form. Any article or social post that presents his involvement as settled is going beyond the reporting.
A separate live-action project from 2023
Readers searching for Cyberpunk 2077 movie news may also find a different project. On October 5, 2023, CD PROJEKT RED announced a live-action project with Anonymous Content. At that point, the company said the project was at an early development stage and had begun searching for a screenwriter to tell a brand-new story set in the Cyberpunk 2077 world. The company’s statement read: “The new project is at an early development stage and has currently commenced searching for a screenwriter to tell a brand-new story set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077.”

A CD PROJEKT investor chat dated August 29, 2025 still refers to that live-action movie, co-produced with Anonymous Content, as a previously announced project. Neither the investor chat nor the 2023 announcement mentions Paramount. The available material does not establish whether the Anonymous Content project became the Paramount film, was replaced by it, or is unrelated. Until an authoritative source connects them, they should be treated as two separate records.

Sales figures to use with care
CD PROJEKT’s 2025 annual report states that Cyberpunk 2077 had sold over 35 million copies as of November 26, 2025. That is the most stable, dated figure for the base game. TheWrap’s October 2026 article cites higher sales numbers that cover the game and its Phantom Liberty expansion. Those numbers come from a different date and a broader scope, so they should not be presented as a replacement for the company figure or compared directly with it.

If you want to explore the franchise
The film news does not require any prior knowledge of the game, and the reporting does not say that the film retells the game’s plot. If you want to start with the source material, the Cyberpunk 2077 game is the franchise’s core product and is available in physical boxed editions as well as digital form. Readers who want a tie-in reading option can also look at Cyberpunk 2077: NO_COINCIDENCE by Rafał Kosik, a novel that CD PROJEKT RED identified in its 2023 announcement. The novel is a separate book, not source material for the Paramount project.

Confirmation would most likely come from a formal announcement by Paramount or CD PROJEKT RED, or from a press release that names a director, writer, or cast. Until one of those appears, the reliable position is that Paramount’s Cyberpunk 2077 film is reported, with Lorenzo di Bonaventura attached as producer, and that its release date, creative team, and cast are unconfirmed.
