Onimusha: Way of the Sword requires Windows 11, 16 GB of RAM, DirectX 12, an SSD, and 50 GB of available storage. Capcom’s minimum target is 1080p Low at 30 FPS with upscaling; its recommended target is 1080p Medium at 60 FPS with upscaling. Check your exact CPU and GPU against the profiles below, then use Capcom’s free Steam benchmark to see how your PC handles the game before you buy or adjust settings. Neither frame-rate target is a guarantee: Capcom warns performance can drop under excessive load.

What are the Onimusha: Way of the Sword PC requirements?

The official Steam listing gives two Windows 11 profiles. Both require 16 GB of RAM, DirectX 12, an SSD, and 50 GB of available space; the main difference is the processor and graphics card paired with each performance target.

Profile CPU GPU Memory and storage Target stated by Capcom
Minimum Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 3 3100 GeForce GTX 1660 6GB or Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB 16 GB RAM; DirectX 12; 50 GB available; SSD required 1080p Low, 30 FPS with upscaling
Recommended Intel Core i5-10400 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 GeForce RTX 2060 Super 8GB or Radeon RX 6600 8GB 16 GB RAM; DirectX 12; 50 GB available; SSD required 1080p Medium, 60 FPS with upscaling

These are Capcom’s published targets on Steam, not a guarantee that every PC with a listed part will hold the stated frame rate in every scene. In particular, the minimum target is not a promise of 30 FPS at native resolution: the listing explicitly includes upscaling. Capcom also cautions that frame rate may fall during periods of excessive load.

What the numbers mean for your PC

  • Memory: 16 GB is specified for both profiles. A system below that amount does not meet the published minimum.
  • Storage: The listing calls for 50 GB of available space and an SSD. An HDD does not meet the stated storage requirement.
  • Graphics: Compare your GPU with the exact model and VRAM in the table, not just a family name. Capcom warns that laptop GPUs can perform much worse than desktop GPUs with similar model names.
  • Operating system: Both profiles specify 64-bit Windows 11. The listing does not establish support for other Windows versions.

Can my PC run Onimusha: Way of the Sword?

Start by checking whether your computer meets the minimum profile, then use the benchmark to assess the result on your actual system. Meeting the component list is a useful baseline, but it does not remove variation from laptop power limits, graphics settings, resolution, drivers, or demanding scenes.

  1. Check Windows and core hardware. In Windows, open Settings > System > About to check the Windows edition, processor, and installed RAM. Confirm that the system is running 64-bit Windows 11.
  2. Identify the active GPU. Open Task Manager > Performance and select the GPU entries to identify the graphics hardware. On a laptop with both integrated and discrete graphics, note which GPU the game is configured to use.
  3. Compare the exact model. Check the processor and graphics card against the minimum row in the table. For a 60 FPS starting target, compare them with the recommended row instead.
  4. Check disk space and drive type. Make sure at least 50 GB is available on an SSD for the game installation. Leave additional free space if you need room for other files or future updates; the official listing does not state a separate update allowance.
  5. Run the free Steam benchmark. Record the result at default settings before making changes. If you are deciding whether to buy, this is more informative than relying on a GPU name alone.

Capcom does not guarantee normal operation on onboard graphics or devices that share video memory with main system memory. It also says mobile GPUs, external GPUs, and Windows Insider pre-release builds are not guaranteed. If your PC falls into one of those categories, treat a benchmark result as a practical indication for that setup—not as official support.

What settings should I use for 30 or 60 FPS?

Choose the target first, then start with the corresponding official profile. For 30 FPS, begin at 1080p Low with upscaling; for 60 FPS at 1080p, begin at Medium with upscaling. Those settings match Capcom’s minimum and recommended targets respectively.

For a 30 FPS target

Use the Low preset at 1080p and enable an available upscaling option. This is the official minimum target, rather than a native-resolution target. If performance fluctuates, an independent PC guide recommends capping the frame rate at the most stable level for the system instead of letting it vary widely.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a 60 FPS target

Use Medium at 1080p with upscaling as the starting point. Capcom pairs this target with the recommended CPU and GPU class in its Steam listing. If the benchmark shows unstable performance, lower demanding settings before raising the resolution or adding visual effects.

For higher-end hardware or higher resolutions

On a faster PC, start with High or maximum settings and run the benchmark before treating that configuration as suitable for regular play. Moving from 1080p to 1440p or 4K increases the rendering workload, so the 1080p official targets do not establish expected performance at those resolutions. Published benchmark results can provide context, but they should not be turned into promises for another GPU, driver, game build, or resolution.

Which upscaling and graphics settings matter most?

The Steam listing says the game’s Super Resolution options include DLSS 4.5 and FSR 3.1; it says Capcom’s estimates used DLSS 4.0 and FSR 3.1. An independent feature inventory reports additional options, but availability can depend on the GPU generation and game update, so the options actually shown in your game are the practical guide.

Upscaling and frame generation

Upscaling renders the game at a lower internal resolution and reconstructs the image for the selected output resolution. The official minimum and recommended frame-rate targets both assume upscaling, so do not compare those targets directly with native-resolution performance. An independent guide recommends choosing DLSS or FSR over the built-in TAAU when the result is better for that particular GPU; image quality and performance can differ by system.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The same independent inventory lists DLSS 4.5, DLAA, NVIDIA Frame Generation and Multi Frame Generation, as well as AMD FSR variants with frame generation. It reports no Intel XeSS support. These details are not the same as a guarantee that every option works on every graphics card. If frame generation causes crashes or instability, the guide recommends disabling it.

Frame generation creates additional displayed frames rather than making the underlying game simulation run at the same rate. It can improve perceived smoothness, but it is not a substitute for a stable base frame rate, and players who prioritize responsive controls may prefer to leave it off. Check the available game options and benchmark the configuration you intend to use.

Ray tracing, fog, and mesh quality

An independent guide describes ray tracing as focused on reflections and reports a roughly 12–15% frame-rate cost in its cited testing. That is a result from the guide’s test conditions, not a universal penalty for every GPU. If performance is limited, disabling or reducing ray tracing is one of the first changes the guide suggests.

How do I benchmark the game before changing settings?

Capcom provides a free Steam benchmark. Run it once at default settings, keep a note of the result, and use subsequent runs to compare individual changes rather than changing several settings at once.

  1. Run a baseline. Use the default configuration and record the average or result shown by the benchmark, along with resolution, preset, upscaling mode, and frame-generation setting.
  2. Choose one change. If the result is below your target, adjust one setting—such as the upscaler, ray tracing, fog, or mesh quality—rather than changing the preset and multiple individual options together.
  3. Run the benchmark again. Keep the same resolution and other settings so the comparison remains useful. Note both the new result and any visible stutter or instability.
  4. Set a practical frame-rate cap. If results vary, use a cap at a rate the PC can sustain more consistently, following the independent guide’s recommendation.
  5. Validate in normal play. Treat benchmark results as an estimate, not a complete account of every scene. Transitions, combat, and loading can behave differently from a benchmark run.

Some figures published by independent sources came from the demo or benchmark rather than a patched retail build. When reading a benchmark result, check which build and test platform it describes; a result from one build cannot establish performance across later patches.

What do published performance results show?

Published tests show that performance depends heavily on the hardware and settings, and they do not provide a universal frame-rate table for all PCs. The examples below are useful reference points only when kept attached to their original test conditions.

  • High-end desktop example: PC Gamer reported frequent 120 FPS on a Radeon RX 9070 XT paired with an Intel Core i5-13600K, with settings turned up and AMD FSR4 set to Quality. The review noted brief hitches during loading or transitions between cutscenes. This is that publication’s result on its test system, not an expected result for other PCs.
  • Selected GPU benchmark figures: Onimusha Guide reported that every GPU in its tested group exceeded 60 FPS at 1080p maximum settings on a Ryzen 9 7950X3D test platform. Its RTX 2080 Ti averaged 78 FPS, while its RTX 5090 exceeded 220 FPS. At 1440p, its RX 6900 XT averaged 68 FPS, with dips below 50. These figures came from demo or benchmark testing and may not match another system or retail patch.
  • Ray tracing: Onimusha Guide’s cited testing reported a roughly 12–15% frame-rate cost. The result is specific to those tests and does not establish the cost on a different GPU.

Use these results to understand how much hardware and settings can change the outcome, not to infer a direct conversion from one GPU to another. Capcom’s published profiles remain the clearest official baseline.

Can I play Onimusha: Way of the Sword on Steam Deck or a laptop?

Steam Deck may be playable, but published testing supports a 30 FPS cap as a more consistent target than a locked 60 FPS. Laptop results are even more dependent on the specific GPU and its power limits, so model names alone are not enough to confirm performance.

Steam Deck

PC Gamer described the game on Steam Deck as a stubborn 30–40 FPS experience, with dips into the 30s during heavy action. Its reviewer recommended locking the game at 30 FPS for consistency. An independent guide suggests starting with Low settings and careful upscaling, particularly for combat and the Kyoto hub. These are reported observations and recommendations, not a Capcom performance guarantee.

Laptops and shared-memory graphics

Capcom warns that mobile GPUs may perform much worse than desktop GPUs even when their model names appear to meet the minimum or recommended requirement. On a laptop, identify the exact GPU and, where available, its power level; then confirm that the game is assigned to the intended high-performance GPU. Capcom does not guarantee normal operation on onboard graphics or devices that share VRAM with system memory.

External GPUs are also outside Capcom’s guarantee. If you use one, benchmark the specific connection and configuration rather than assuming a desktop GPU’s published result will transfer to the setup.

  1. Confirm the requirements. Check the operating system, CPU, GPU, 16 GB RAM, DirectX 12, SSD, and available storage against the official profile.
  2. Check security software. If the game fails to launch or frame rate drops unexpectedly, Capcom suggests adding the game files and folders to antivirus or firewall exclusions when a false positive may be involved.
  3. Use appropriate permissions. Run the Xbox app or game with administrator privileges where applicable.
  4. Update Windows and graphics drivers. Capcom’s guide, updated September 4, 2026, lists NVIDIA driver version 596.49 or later and AMD Radeon driver version 26.5.1 or later. Driver requirements change; check Capcom’s current guide and the GPU maker’s current release information before installing a driver.
  5. Select the intended GPU. On a dual-GPU PC, make sure the game is assigned to the high-performance GPU rather than integrated graphics.
  6. Check power and thermals. Capcom recommends a high-performance power plan, keeping a laptop connected to compatible power, and ensuring the PC is well ventilated.
  7. Verify game files. Use the game platform’s file verification or cache-check function to identify and replace damaged files.
  8. Look for software conflicts. Close or disable conflicting applications while diagnosing the problem.
  9. Clear shader cache if instability persists. Capcom includes deleting shader cache files among its troubleshooting steps.
  10. Disable compatibility mode. If compatibility mode is enabled for the game executable, turn it off.
  11. Reduce graphics settings. Lower the preset or demanding effects if the problem appears tied to configuration or unstable frame rates.
  12. Update DirectX. Capcom also recommends keeping DirectX updated.

Capcom says it does not guarantee normal operation or provide official technical support for PCs below the official minimum requirements, mobile GPUs, external GPUs, or pre-release Windows Insider builds. If the issue continues after the listed steps, note the exact hardware, Windows build, driver version, game build, and symptoms when seeking support; those details help distinguish a configuration problem from a broader fault.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Onimusha: Way of the Sword support Intel XeSS?

An independent feature inventory reports no Intel XeSS support. Since game features can change with updates, check the options displayed in your installed game rather than assuming that a later patch has added it.

Will a graphics card with 6GB of VRAM be enough?

The official minimum specifically names the GTX 1660 with 6GB, but that does not establish that every 6GB GPU meets the minimum. Compare the exact model and use the benchmark to assess your own system.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Can I use an external GPU enclosure with this game?

Capcom does not guarantee normal operation with external GPUs. A benchmark on the complete enclosure-and-PC setup is more relevant than a result for the same graphics card installed in a desktop.

Does the Steam Deck have an official performance target from Capcom?

The cited Steam listing gives Windows PC profiles, while the Deck figures come from PC Gamer’s independent review. Treat the reviewer’s result as a report about its tested setup, not an official Valve or Capcom rating.
