The FBI publicly announced the GATOR Task Force on September 28, 2026, reporting early enforcement activity after operations began in July. Officials have cited arrests, indictments and seizures, but those figures do not show that violent crime has fallen or establish that GATOR caused a decline.
What is the GATOR Task Force?
GATOR stands for Gun Crime Abatement Targeted Offender Response, the formal name used by the FBI. The FBI describes it as an FBI-led effort targeting violent crime in the Greater Shreveport area, developed in response to community concerns about violent gangs and drug trafficking. Its announcement was published September 28, 2026.
The FBI lists these participating agencies: the FBI, Louisiana State Police, Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Office, Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana Division of Probation and Parole, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). Local coverage also identifies the Shreveport Police Department; that does not make it part of the FBI’s published roster.
The FBI says GATOR operates under its Safe Streets Violent Crime initiative, established in 1992 to address violent street gangs and drug-related violence. It describes the task-force approach as a way to share resources, intelligence and equipment while avoiding duplicated effort. Read the FBI’s announcement.

When did operations begin?
News reports say the operation began in July 2026, before the public announcement. Louisiana Radio Network reported that it started that month; KEDM specified July 9 in its September 30 report. The FBI announcement confirms the task force and its mission but does not give a start date.
What early results have officials reported?
The published totals are officials’ preliminary enforcement tallies reported by local outlets, not an independently audited or reconciled dataset. They agree on roughly 65 arrests and eight indictments, but differ on firearm seizures and what other seizures to include.

The firearm totals therefore differ—19 in Keller’s figures as reported by Louisiana Radio Network, versus 25 in KEDM’s report. KEDM also reports marijuana and THC-product seizures not included in the Louisiana Radio Network tally. The available reports do not reconcile those counts, so they should not be combined into one definitive total. Louisiana Radio Network’s report and KEDM’s report provide the attributed figures.
How has the task force worked across jurisdictions?
KSLA reported one example involving Trevon Jackson, an escaped Caddo Parish inmate who faced a federal carjacking charge. According to U.S. Attorney Zachary Keller’s account quoted by KSLA, the charge prompted the U.S. Marshals Service to pursue Jackson with federal, state and other authorities; they tracked him to Texas and arrested him there. This is an account of one operation, not a measure of the task force’s overall impact.

No. Arrests, indictments and seized property are enforcement outputs: they show activity by investigators and prosecutors. To establish a reduction in violent crime, a report would need to show crime trends over a defined period and geography. To attribute any change to GATOR, an evaluation would also need to account for other factors that may affect those trends.

The FBI announcement and the cited local reports provide activity counts and operational details, not a measured before-and-after violent-crime trend or a causal evaluation. They do not establish that Shreveport’s violent-crime rate has fallen because of GATOR.
