The safest way to move a Cyberpunk 2077 playthrough is CD PROJEKT RED’s official cross-progression system: update both installations, connect them to the same CD PROJEKT RED account, enable cross-platform saves, create a fresh source save, and load the cloud-marked copy on the destination. This works across supported platforms, including moves such as Xbox to PC, provided the editions, regions, required downloadable content, and mod setup are compatible.
Save transfer and settings transfer are different things. The official guidance documents save synchronization and mod compatibility, but it does not describe a universal export/import process for graphics, display, controls, accessibility, or other ordinary preferences. How do I transfer a Cyberpunk 2077 save with cross progression?
Use this sequence when moving between supported platforms or editions. The new save created after cross progression is enabled is the important part; do not assume every old local save will appear automatically.
- Update the source game. Launch the source copy and install the latest patch shown in its main menu.
- Open the save list. Choose Load Game. Select the Cross Progression control shown at the bottom of the screen.
- Sign in. Connect the source installation to the CD PROJEKT RED account you intend to use on the destination.
- Enable the setting if necessary. Go to Settings → Gameplay → Enable cross-platform Saves and turn it on.
- Create a fresh save. Load the playthrough you want to move, then make a new save. The resulting entry should display a cloud icon. That icon is the practical confirmation that the new save was uploaded.
- Prepare the destination. Start Cyberpunk 2077 on the new platform, open My Rewards, and connect that copy to the same CD PROJEKT RED account.

Can I move a save between the base game and Ultimate Edition?
A base-game save can be loaded by the Ultimate Edition because the Ultimate Edition includes the base game and the additional content. The reverse direction is restricted: a save made with the Ultimate Edition cannot load in a destination installation that does not include Phantom Liberty, because that installation lacks required content.

How do I transfer a Cyberpunk 2077 save from PS4 to PS5?
PlayStation has two documented paths. A direct PS4-to-PS5 cloud method uploads one selected save file; cross progression is the account-based alternative and follows the general sequence above.
Direct PS4-version to PS5-version method
- On the PS4 version, choose the option to upload a save file to the cloud.
- Select the one save file you want to carry over.
- Launch the PS5 version and choose the option to download that uploaded save.
- Load the downloaded file from the PS5 save list.

Moving to a platform that cannot use the same mods
Disable or remove mods before creating the migration save when the destination cannot support them. Create a fresh unmodded save, wait for its cloud icon, and use that entry on the destination.
Keeping mods on both platforms
Compare the enabled mod set on the source and destination before loading the save. A linked account may synchronize mod subscriptions, but console support differs by mod, so a subscription record alone does not prove that the destination can run every modification.

Do not repeatedly overwrite the only local copy. Return to the source installation, disable incompatible modifications if possible, create another save, and upload that new entry. Preserve the original local backup in case the modded playthrough needs to be restored on its original setup.
What regional restrictions can block a transfer?
Cross progression depends partly on the regional version, or SKU, of each copy. CD PROJEKT RED states that PC versions are not affected by regional restrictions, while PC-to-console loading is possible on versions without regional restrictions. Saves from restricted versions can be limited to an equal or less restrictive version, or to a version from the same region.
Before buying or downloading the destination release, compare the source and destination regions shown by the storefront or product information. If the versions are restricted differently, a successful account sign-in does not guarantee that the save will be accepted.

What is the safest migration plan for a clean install?
Use both protections when the playthrough matters: upload a fresh cloud save through cross progression and keep a separate local backup before uninstalling or replacing the source installation.
- Update the source and destination copies.
- Disable or reconcile mods for the destination.
- Enable cross-platform saves and create a new source save.
- Wait for the cloud icon.
- Copy the Windows or Mac save directory to another drive or external device.
