Hexapod is the Corrupted Gate boss at the end of Withered Shoals in Mammon. Enter through the Gate of Mammon, activate the Ossinite Falls and Nameless Pass Beacons, then follow the hollow-tree ledge and deliberately drop into the dark water. Nameless Pass is the practical retry point. For the fight, stay out of the frontal appendage line, punish only after the appendages spread or recover, sidestep the red forward surge, and preserve cover for the later homing shots. A defensive setup with Harden, an upgraded ranged weapon, or fully upgraded Stray Doubles makes the encounter much more forgiving; Proxima is optional rather than required.
Where is Hexapod in Mortal Shell 2?
Hexapod is inside the Corrupted Gate at the end of Withered Shoals, in the Mammon area. The encounter does not use a conventional fog gate. You reach it by following the hollow-tree and ledge approach, then dropping into the dark water at the trigger point.
The most useful landmark is Nameless Pass. Activate its Beacon before taking the final approach so a failed attempt does not force you to repeat the entire level. After victory, the new progression Beacon is Hexapod’s Burrow.
What you need to know before the drop
- Withered Shoals is entered through the Gate of Mammon.
- Ossinite Falls and Nameless Pass each have a Beacon that should be activated as you pass.
- The arena seals when the final trigger is activated, so collect optional items first.
- The Strange Grisha route is optional and is not needed to reach Hexapod.
How do I reach the arena and collect the Depleted Gland?
Follow the main Withered Shoals route to the two Beacons, then check the side path for the Depleted Gland before committing to the final drop. The item is missable because the arena seals after the encounter trigger.

- Enter Withered Shoals through the Gate of Mammon.
- Stay on the main route until you reach Ossinite Falls and activate its Beacon.
- Continue to Nameless Pass and activate that Beacon. This is your best return point after a defeat.
- Before the hollow-tree approach, take the short detour for the Depleted Gland if you want to secure it. Do not assume you can retrieve it after starting the boss.
- Return to the hollow-tree and ledge route. At the end, deliberately drop into the dark water. That drop starts the Hexapod fight.
There is no separate mist wall to signal the arena. If you are standing at the hollow-tree ledge and the route appears to end in dark water, you are at the correct entrance.
What is the best Hexapod loadout?
There is no mandatory build, but a safe setup combines a way to absorb mistakes with a reliable method of hitting Hexapod’s face when its appendages move away. Harden should remain available, and an upgraded ranged option is valuable for moments when closing distance is unsafe.
Defensive summon-and-poke setup
One current build guide recommends Obsidian Genessa, Black Needle, Common Moonshine, and fully upgraded Stray Doubles. Cast Stray Doubles before contact, land one or two Black Needle pokes, retreat, rebuild resolve, and recast from a safe distance. That guide reports that fully upgraded Stray Doubles can absorb up to two fatal hits. Treat the number as a property of that guide’s setup, not as a guarantee for every upgrade state.

Ranged support
PowerPyx specifically recommends the Triarch Repeater for face shots when the appendages move away from the head. Ranged attacks are most useful as a supplement: use them while the boss is opening distance or when the frontal line is too dangerous, rather than standing still and trying to trade shots.
Proxima and resource planning
Proxima is optional support. The route guide lists a cost of 1 Glimpse and describes her role as drawing attention so you can create attack openings. She is not required to enter the arena or to defeat Hexapod. If you bring her, reserve the resource for the attempt in which you are prepared to capitalize on the distraction instead of summoning her automatically on every retry.

| Option | Primary benefit | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Fully upgraded Stray Doubles | Can absorb up to two fatal hits according to the build guide | Requires preparation and recasting before protection is exhausted |
| Harden | Safety buffer when a sequence is unclear | Does not replace positioning; repeated frontal exposure remains dangerous |
| Triarch Repeater | Face shots while the appendages are away | Most useful when already upgraded; ranged attacks do not remove the need to dodge |
| Proxima | Draws attention and opens short attack windows | Costs 1 Glimpse and is optional |
How should I fight Hexapod?
Fight from an angle, not directly in front of the face. Hexapod’s most dangerous pressure is concentrated in the forward appendages, so your basic loop is to wait for an opening, move laterally, take a short face punish, and reset before the next sequence.
1. Stay outside the frontal appendage line
When the appendages are active in front of Hexapod’s face, do not stand in their shared attack lane. Circle to the side and watch for a spread or recovery animation. The goal is not to remain underneath the boss indefinitely; it is to reach the face for a brief attack window and then leave before the appendages close the space.
2. Punish the wide spread
A wide appendage spread exposes the head. Dodge out of the line, then take a brief punish while the opening is visible. One or two hits are usually safer than a full combo. The encounter rewards timing and spacing more than damage greed.
3. Handle side and frontal sweeps
For side or frontal sweeps, move laterally rather than backing away in a straight line. Use Harden if the timing is uncertain or your position is already compromised. Once the sweep has passed, return to the face only if the appendages are still in recovery.
4. Sidestep the red forward surge
When Hexapod jumps back and flashes red, it is preparing the forward surge. Sidestep the rush. Retreating directly backward keeps you in its path and leaves less room to react. After the surge passes, check the appendages before trying to punish; the end of the movement is not automatically safe.

5. Respect the unblockable close attack
When the appendages or fingers open in the unblockable tell, stop attacking and create space. Do not attempt to finish a combo through the animation. Harden can provide a safety buffer in an emergency, but leaving the range is the cleaner response.
6. Save cover for homing shots
Later in the fight, Hexapod can use homing shots. Keep moving sideways and use the arena’s large skeletons or other solid cover to break the projectile line. Re-engage only after the shots have been redirected or stopped. If you spend all of the arena’s cover early, the projectile phase becomes harder to read and dodge.
Should I use aggressive combos or a poke-and-reset plan?
A short poke-and-reset plan is the more consistent choice. Aggressive combos can work when the boss is clearly recovering, but the appendages can turn a greedy sequence into a trade or an unblockable hit.
| Approach | Survivability | Execution complexity | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Short melee pokes | High when followed by a reset | Low to moderate | Default strategy for learning the tells |
| Stray Doubles plus Black Needle | Higher while the summon protection remains | Moderate; requires resolve management and recasting | Players who want a forgiving melee loop |
| Triarch Repeater support | Moderate; reduces time in the frontal lane | Moderate; requires aiming during openings | When the appendages move away or the boss creates distance |
| Aggressive combos | Lower | High | Only after a confirmed long recovery |
If you use the Obsidian Genessa setup, recast Stray Doubles before their protection is exhausted. Waiting until the summon has already absorbed its final hit leaves you exposed during the next approach.
What is the best retry route after dying?
Use Nameless Pass as the retry anchor. From that Beacon, return to the hollow-tree approach and drop into the dark water again. This avoids replaying the earlier Withered Shoals route on every attempt.

What changed in the Week 1 update?
The Week 1 Update was published on August 29, 2026, and changed several Hexapod behaviors and arena conditions. Advice or footage recorded before that update may not describe the current encounter accurately.
- The area attack now has considerably more splash damage.
- Hexapod no longer self-interrupts during the shooting attack.
- One attack was retimed.
- The arena is smaller.
- The Beacon light is enabled by default.
- A fix prevents the boss from wedging itself into the environment during its dive.
These changes make positioning more important than older videos may suggest. In particular, allow extra distance for splash damage, avoid assuming the shooting attack will cancel itself, and use the arena’s skeletons deliberately because the available space is reduced.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What does Hexapod drop?
Defeating Hexapod awards Hexapod Core, a weapon-ability Tarstone related to the Axatana, and the “Something in the deep…” achievement. Hexapod’s Burrow is the progression Beacon created after the fight.
One build guide states that the Hexapod Core ability spends 60 Resolve for a rapid Axatana strike sequence. That cost is tied to the guide’s current balance context, so verify the in-game description if a later patch changes the ability.

Which preparation should I choose?
Choose based on what you are most likely to lose during the attempt: health, spacing, or resources. The table below separates the practical trade-offs without treating any one setup as mandatory.
| Priority | Preparation | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Survivability | Harden plus fully upgraded Stray Doubles | Provides a safety buffer and can absorb mistakes while you learn the attack cycle |
| Range | Triarch Repeater with an upgraded melee weapon | Lets you take face shots when the appendages move away instead of forcing a close approach |
| Low execution complexity | Short lateral dodge, one or two hits, retreat | Limits exposure to sweeps and the unblockable close attack |
| Extra distraction | Proxima for 1 Glimpse | Can draw attention and create an opening, but is not needed to win |
The most reliable learning method is to activate both route Beacons, secure the Depleted Gland, enter with Harden ready, and practice the lateral movement around the frontal appendages. Add Stray Doubles or Proxima once you can consistently recognize the spread, red surge and unblockable tells.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I reach Hexapod without fighting Strange Grisha?
Yes. Strange Grisha is an optional route encounter and is not required to reach the hollow-tree drop into Hexapod’s arena. You can stay on the main Withered Shoals path through Ossinite Falls and Nameless Pass.

The Week 1 Update on August 29, 2026 changed splash damage, attack timing, shooting behavior, arena size and dive collision behavior. Videos made before that patch may show more room, different interruptions or less punishing area attacks.
Can I get the Depleted Gland after starting the boss?
Do not rely on that. The route is described as missable because the arena seals when the final trigger is activated, so collect the gland before dropping from the hollow-tree ledge.
What should I spend Resolve on during the fight?
If you use Stray Doubles, reserve enough Resolve to recast before its protection is exhausted. The Hexapod Core reward is later described as costing 60 Resolve for its Axatana strike sequence, so avoid draining your resources without a clear opening.
