In the previewed Skybound Eyrie, ride your Seikret into updrafts to rise and glide between floating landmasses. For combat, learn your weapon and the base game’s Focus Mode first; then treat Boost Action as an additional, limited-duration way to keep up pressure.
What is confirmed about Ascendance aerial movement?
PlayStation.Blog Japan’s September 16, 2026 hands-on preview describes the Skybound Eyrie, a new area with floating landmasses. There, riding the Seikret lets the hunter catch updrafts, rise, and glide between islands. This is a traversal feature shown for that area; the report does not give button-by-button instructions or establish a general airborne combat system. Read the official Ascendance preview.
Use the Seikret to travel between spaces and reposition. Don’t assume that gliding itself increases damage, enables a particular combo, or works the same way in every area: those details are not established in the preview.
Learn your weapon and Focus Mode before adding Boost Action
Practice one weapon at a time
Monster Hunter Wilds has 14 weapon types, with different trade-offs in mobility, defense, and attacks. There is no universally best beginner weapon in the official guidance; comfort with its controls and play style matters. Practice at Base Camp’s Training Area and consult the in-game Play Guide’s Weapon Controls section for that weapon’s moves and combos. The official game page describes several broad differences: Great Sword favors slower, powerful attacks; Sword & Shield is maneuverable and allows some item use while drawn; Lance emphasizes defense; and Insect Glaive is acrobatic.

Use Focus Mode to line up precision attacks
Focus Mode helps aim attacks and guards in the camera’s direction and highlights wounds and exposed weak points. Face the body part you want to target, check your distance, and use a Focus Strike when you have a safe opening. Focus Mode is an aiming and targeting tool, not an always-on damage multiplier. PlayStation’s Monster Hunter Wilds Starter’s Guide introduces Focus Mode and other beginner systems.
Alignment and space matter: Xbox Wire’s developer tips advise creating enough distance and lining up a Focus Strike rather than attempting it from a poor position. If the monster is attacking or you cannot safely reach the wound, keep pressure on with ordinary attacks or reposition instead. Xbox Wire’s developer tips explain the approach.
Use the Seikret for repositioning and recovery
The Seikret is more than a way to get around. Official beginner guidance recommends using it to create distance and recover health or stamina, or sharpen, while moving somewhere safer. You can also gather while mounted and carry a second weapon for a different situation. Mounted attacks are available, but the developer guidance cautions that they are limited; for sustained, substantial offense, dismount and fight on foot.
Think of the second weapon as an option, not an obligation. Switch when the monster’s behavior or the situation makes another weapon a better fit. The Seikret’s mobility and recovery help you reset; they do not replace learning your weapon’s ground combat.

What Boost Action adds in the preview
Ascendance’s previewed Boost Action is activated with the Boost Bracer and lasts for a limited time. It grants weapon-specific attacks and empowers certain weapon actions. The gauge fills over time and when your attacks land, so the basic approach is to build ordinary weapon rhythm before relying on the new mechanic.
The preview reports that Boost Action can be activated mid-combo or after an attack leaves the hunter exposed, offering a way to maintain offensive momentum. It does not supply a complete weapon-by-weapon input guide, so learn the actual controls from the game when available rather than assuming one activation sequence applies to every weapon.

Use wounds to extend a Boost window
While in Boost state, destroying a wound with Focus Strike recharges the draining gauge, according to the hands-on preview. If you are comfortable with Focus Mode and have a clear opening, timing a wound-breaking strike near the end of Boost may help sustain the state. This is an advanced, preview-derived tactic—not a required beginner combo or a guarantee that every encounter will offer a safe wound to exploit.

Araketa: watch its tells and exposed throat
In the Skybound Eyrie demo, Araketa used pack attacks. The preview describes its wings swelling before a blast or charge, and its throat becoming a weak spot when it roars. The writer landed a Focus Strike on the exposed throat, interrupting Araketa’s commands to the pack in that demo. A curled-up Gundoraja creature was also used as a thrown weapon to stagger Araketa. These are reported encounter examples, not verified tactics for every quest or difficulty.

Teostra: account for timing and terrain
In an Oilwell Basin demo against Teostra, the preview writer countered a foreleg slam with Switch Axe Offset Rising Slash. The writer also found that thick oil mud interfered with dodging away from blast attacks. Take the general lesson—watch the attack, choose a suitable response, and account for the ground beneath you—without treating that specific counter as a beginner requirement.
Choose a response to the opening you actually have
| Situation | Useful response | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You need to cross space or recover | Mount the Seikret and create distance; recover or sharpen while moving if safe. | Official beginner guidance presents the Seikret as a travel and recovery option. |
| A wound is visible, and you have room to aim | Face it with Focus Mode and use Focus Strike when alignment and distance are safe. | Focus Mode highlights wounds; a well-positioned strike can exploit them. |
| The monster is attacking or the wound is out of reach | Keep attacking if there is a safe opening, or reposition instead of forcing Focus Strike. | Developer guidance emphasizes distance and alignment. |
| You are in the previewed Skybound Eyrie | Ride the Seikret into an updraft and glide between floating landmasses. | This is the aerial traversal described in the Ascendance preview. |
| You have learned your normal weapon flow and Boost is available | Activate Boost Action to use its weapon-specific attacks and empowered actions; watch the gauge. | The preview describes a limited-duration state that charges over time and with landed strikes. |
What is still preview information?
The available Ascendance report is a hands-on preview of a game in development for a planned 2027 release. It describes a new storyline, areas, monsters, actions, and Master Rank, but it is not a complete manual or confirmation that every described mechanic and detail is final. It does not establish exact aerial controls, a universal airborne combo, Boost Action inputs for each weapon, or damage multipliers. Treat the examples and tactics above as a guide to what was shown, not a substitute for the final in-game controls and instructions.
