The best Modern Warfare 4 settings are a calibrated starting point, not a universal number. On a controller, begin around 1.65 horizontal and vertical sensitivity, 0.95–1.00 ADS multiplier, both aim-assist switches on, and minimum stick deadzones just above the point where drift stops. On mouse and keyboard, begin with a 1.00 ADS multiplier and choose a sensitivity that lets you turn about 180 degrees in one comfortable swipe. Then change one setting at a time and repeat the same turn-and-tracking drill.
Modern Warfare 4 released on October 23, 2026, for PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch 2. The launch rules and October 29 patch matter more than beta-era advice, especially for Tactical Sprint and aim assist. The official title and current launch information are on the Modern Warfare 4 title page.

What changed at launch, and why does it matter?
Modern Warfare 4 is a released game rather than a beta. Infinity Ward’s launch notes retain a beta change that makes Tactical Sprint unavailable by default. The developer wrote: “Lastly, we have kept the change from Beta to make Tactical Sprint not available by default.” Tactical Sprint is tied to the Blood Rush perk, and with that perk equipped the default behavior is single-tap run. Therefore, do not copy a beta-era “Tactical Sprint toggle” recommendation as though the ability were always active. Read the launch patch notes for the current rule.

Aim-assist impressions also need a date. During the beta, Infinity Ward said, “For Weekend 2, we’ve made adjustments to aim assist to reduce its impact.” That statement describes a beta change, not a guaranteed launch strength. The beta patch notes are useful historical context, but they should not be used to promise a particular rotational feel now.
How do I open the controller settings?
Open the in-game Settings menu and choose Controller. Stick sensitivity and Deadzone Inputs are in the controller area. The response-curve, ADS-transition and aim-assist controls appear under the aiming subsection in the screenshot-led PC Steam walkthrough; labels and defaults below are observations from that build, not a promise that every platform displays identical values.
Start with equal horizontal and vertical sensitivity
The walkthrough observed 1.20 on both axes. SCUF’s September 2026 beta/pre-launch recommendation was 1.65 on each axis. Start with equal values so diagonal movement does not feel unexpectedly different. Raise both in small increments if you cannot turn comfortably; lower the relevant value if you repeatedly swing past targets. Modern Warfare 4 does not use the older Call of Duty 6–8 sensitivity scale, so importing an older number is not meaningful.
The Tool Desk

The observed ADS sensitivity was 1.00, while SCUF recommends 0.95–1.00. Establish a comfortable hip-fire turn first, then adjust ADS. A slight reduction can make sustained tracking easier when your reticle consistently passes the target; a higher value can help if ADS turns feel sluggish. Neither range has been demonstrated as universally most accurate.
Should I use Standard, Linear or Dynamic?
Choose the curve that gives you a predictable first movement and controllable fine aim. The menu offers Standard, Linear and Dynamic; the reviewed walkthrough identified Standard as the default, while SCUF suggests trying Dynamic. Standard is a sensible familiar baseline. Dynamic is an experiment for players who want a different relationship between small stick movement and on-screen response. Linear is another reference point when you want the least-shaped response.
Compare curves without changing sensitivity at the same time. Make several identical short corrections and medium turns with Standard, then repeat with Dynamic or Linear. Keep the curve that reduces either hesitant initial movement or overshoot for your hands; no source establishes an objectively superior curve.
Which ADS transition should I choose?
The menu provides Gradual, Instant and After Zoom. Gradual was the observed default. Instant applies the ADS multiplier immediately and is SCUF’s suggested alternative; After Zoom delays the transition until the zoom state. The choice is about timing, not a guaranteed accuracy boost.

- Gradual: a familiar ramp into ADS and a good control baseline.
- Instant: useful when you want the configured ADS speed to apply as soon as you aim.
- After Zoom: worth comparing if you prefer the multiplier to take effect only after the zoom change.
Change only this option during a comparison. A transition that feels slow can be mistaken for low sensitivity, leading to unnecessary changes elsewhere.
Should aim assist be on or off?
The reviewed menu shows separate Target Aim Assist and ADS Aim Assist switches. Leave both on as the SCUF baseline, then decide from your own control and accessibility needs. The available evidence does not establish a current numerical strength or prove that turning either switch off produces better accuracy.
Do not treat beta descriptions of aim-assist strength as launch measurements. Infinity Ward changed the system during beta, and the launch game can differ after subsequent patches.
How do I set MW4 deadzones and fix stick drift?
Set each stick’s minimum deadzone independently. Reduce the minimum until unwanted movement or camera rotation first appears, then increase it by the smallest amount that stops the drift. This preserves more usable stick travel than applying a large value to both sticks.
- In Settings > Controller > Deadzone Inputs, enable Test Stick Deadzone if the control is available.
- Test the left stick while the controller is untouched. Lower its minimum in small steps until movement begins.
- Raise that value one small step, retest, and record the lowest drift-free setting.
- Repeat the process for the right stick; its minimum may need a different value.
- Repeat after the controller has warmed up and after reconnecting it, because intermittent drift can be inconsistent.
The PC Steam walkthrough observed a default minimum of 15 for each stick, maximum values of 99/99, stick-sensitivity axes at 1.20/1.20 and ADS at 1.00. Those are observations from one build, not cross-platform defaults. SCUF’s suggested minimum of 3/3 is also only a starting recommendation. Its proposed left/right maximums of 65/99 change the feel of the stick and should not be silently bundled with minimum calibration.
If drift remains at an unusually high minimum, inspect the controller, reconnect it and try a compatible gaming controller before assuming a sensitivity problem. Buying hardware is not required to change settings, and any replacement must be checked for compatibility with your PC, PlayStation, Xbox or Switch 2.
What should I use for triggers, vibration and layout?
SCUF suggests trigger deadzones of 0–5, vibration off and the Tactical layout. Treat these as optional starting points rather than mandatory presets. The screenshot-led PC Steam walkthrough observed trigger deadzones of 13 on its build, showing why you should verify the value shown on your platform.

How does Tactical Sprint work in the launch version?
Tactical Sprint is not a universal sprint toggle. Infinity Ward’s launch rule requires the Blood Rush perk; when that perk is equipped, single-tap run is the default behavior. Keep this separate from Sprint Assist and mantle assistance, which are movement helpers rather than proof that Tactical Sprint is available.
Recommended Free Tools
Set sprint and mantle options only after confirming the perk and input behavior in a private or low-risk match. If a guide labels a setting “Tactical Sprint Assist” without mentioning Blood Rush, treat that wording as a guide author’s terminology, not the launch rule.
What are the best mouse-and-keyboard settings?
On PC, select mouse and keyboard input, keep the in-game ADS multiplier at 1.00 initially and choose sensitivity by physical movement rather than copying a console number. A repeatable baseline is one comfortable swipe that turns approximately 180 degrees. This makes the setting meaningful across different DPI values and desk sizes.
Choose sensitivity and DPI together
An October 23 firsthand guide gives 4.12 at 1600 DPI as the author’s personal reference. It is not a universal target: doubling DPI changes the relationship between the operating-system pointer and in-game movement, and a small desk may require a shorter swipe. A large mouse pad helps only when you lack room for longer, slower swipes; it is not a substitute for calibration.
Make a 180-degree turn from a repeatable starting position. If you cannot complete it without lifting the mouse repeatedly, raise sensitivity modestly. If you pass the intended angle, lower it modestly. Keep DPI, polling and Windows pointer settings fixed while comparing values.
ADS and monitor-distance settings
The same guide uses Relative ADS sensitivity and Instant ADS transition as author preferences. It also gives a 1.78 monitor-distance-coefficient example tied to a 16:9 display. Do not apply that coefficient automatically to another aspect ratio or claim competitive superiority. Leave custom per-zoom sensitivity off at first so one ADS value is easier to understand; consider a slightly lower ADS multiplier only if tracking repeatedly overshoots.
Keybinds and movement
Keep movement keys familiar before remapping equipment. You can move hard-to-reach actions to accessible mouse buttons, but change one bind at a time and verify that it does not conflict with sprint, slide or dive activation. The firsthand guide discusses Sprint Assist, Mantle Assist and separate slide/dive activation as its own preferences, not as an official developer preset. Test each change in a safe mode before relying on it in a match.

Which PC options affect responsiveness?
Call of Duty’s PC documentation describes sub-frame mouse polling, a PC-exclusive Enhanced FOV option, separately adjustable World and Weapon Depth of Field, and a built-in benchmark that reports FPS and input latency. The publisher also describes more than 800 customization options across graphics, gameplay, input devices and interface. Details are in the official PC technology and features article.
Enhanced FOV is documented as a PC feature; do not assume consoles provide it. Likewise, do not declare one FOV, frame rate or depth-of-field value best for every display. Use the benchmark on your own hardware after changing graphics settings. The published recommended PC specification targets 90 FPS under its stated conditions, while the published specification lists an SSD and 115 GB of storage; those are vendor targets and requirements, not universal performance promises.

How do I calibrate settings without chasing random changes?
Use a short, repeatable routine and record every starting value. The aim is to identify one cause of a problem instead of changing sensitivity, curve and deadzone together.
- Write down sensitivity, ADS multiplier, curve, transition, deadzones, DPI and key or button layout.
- Run the same drill: a fixed 180-degree turn, several short target corrections and one sustained ADS track.
- Describe the failure precisely: cannot turn, overshoots, feels delayed, drifts while untouched, or requires uncomfortable physical movement.
- Change one variable by a modest amount. For drift, change only the affected stick’s minimum deadzone; for overshoot, reduce the relevant sensitivity or ADS multiplier.
- Repeat the identical drill and keep the change only if the failure is reduced without creating a new one.
- Recheck after a patch, controller reconnection or DPI change, because input behavior and menu defaults can change.
How do I troubleshoot the most common problems?
My aim drifts while I am not touching the stick
Lower the affected stick’s minimum deadzone until drift appears, then raise it slightly. Calibrate left and right independently; a single shared value can conceal different wear.
I cannot turn quickly enough
Raise horizontal and vertical sensitivity in small equal steps on controller, or raise mouse sensitivity while preserving the 180-degree swipe test. Do not compensate for a slow ADS transition by making hip-fire sensitivity extreme.

I constantly pass the target
Reduce the relevant sensitivity or ADS multiplier modestly. On controller, compare Standard with Dynamic only after sensitivity is stable; on mouse, keep DPI fixed while adjusting the in-game value.

Tactical Sprint does not activate
Confirm that Blood Rush is equipped. Launch rules do not make Tactical Sprint available by default, so a generic sprint toggle recommendation may be describing beta behavior or a different movement assist.
The menu values do not match a guide
That is possible across platforms and builds. The observed PC Steam defaults are not promised console defaults, and launch patches can change behavior. Use the labels in your own Settings menu and treat published numbers as starting points.
How we picked these starting settings
The recommendations prioritize current launch information from Infinity Ward and the publisher, then clearly label observed menu values and author or manufacturer suggestions. Selection criteria are controllable turn speed, predictable ADS timing, drift-safe deadzone calibration, accessible inputs, and a repeatable way to compare one change at a time. No independent head-to-head result establishes a universally optimal sensitivity, DPI or input method.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

For a controller, begin at 1.65/1.65, ADS 0.95–1.00, both aim-assist switches on, Standard or Dynamic for comparison, and independently calibrated minimum deadzones. For mouse and keyboard, begin at ADS 1.00, use a sensitivity that produces a comfortable 180-degree swipe, and keep keybind changes minimal. Confirm the Blood Rush requirement before troubleshooting Tactical Sprint, and use the PC benchmark rather than a universal FPS promise when tuning performance.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I copy my Modern Warfare III sensitivity directly into Modern Warfare 4?
No. Modern Warfare 4 presents a different sensitivity scale and menu structure, so an older 6–8 value does not map reliably. Recalibrate from a comfortable turn instead of converting the old number.
Does Enhanced FOV work on PlayStation or Xbox?
The publisher documents Enhanced FOV as a PC-exclusive option. Console players should use the FOV controls their platform exposes rather than assuming the PC setting is available.
How often should I recalibrate a controller deadzone?
Recheck after you notice new drift, reconnect the controller, change hardware or install a major patch. A deadzone that was suitable earlier can become unnecessarily high as a stick wears.
Is the published 90 FPS target guaranteed on every gaming PC?
No. The 90 FPS figure is the publisher’s target at its recommended PC specifications and conditions. Actual frame rate and input latency depend on your hardware, resolution, graphics options and background load.
