To update an installed Minecraft title on Nintendo Switch 2, highlight its icon on HOME without launching it, press + or −, choose Software Update → Via the Internet, and let the download and installation finish. Then use the same Options menu to look for a software-version label, if one is shown. How do I know the check actually finished?
A completed check should either begin an update or return without offering one. If the console reports that no update is available, that means no newer package was offered to that selected title at that moment; it does not by itself identify the numeric build installed. Record the title or edition you selected, the date, and the result before troubleshooting further.
How can I verify the installed Minecraft version?
Use the selected title’s Options menu to look for a software-version label, then perform Software Update → Via the Internet as an independent availability check. Platform distribution can occur at different times, and a later hotfix can replace the first entry. Before treating 26.60 as the newest comparison point, open the live Minecraft release index and look for an entry dated after October 27, 2026. Compare Bedrock with Bedrock; do not compare a Java Edition number or the Switch 2 system-firmware number with a Minecraft build.

The 26.60 notes mention a Switch 2 split-screen performance improvement and a fix involving Switch 2 Vibrant Visuals world previews. Those release-note details can help identify the relevant platform family, but they do not establish the number printed in your console’s user interface.
What is the difference between a Minecraft game update, a system update, and the native Switch 2 edition?
These are three separate operations or ownership states. Selecting the wrong one is the most common reason a reader thinks Minecraft has “not updated.”

Nintendo recommends current system software when using its software-menu functions, so keeping the console firmware current can remove a separate compatibility problem. It remains a different check from the Minecraft title update.
What if Minecraft says no update is available?
Work through the following branches in order. A “no update” result can be correct for the selected title, or it can reflect connectivity, an out-of-date console, a rollout delay, or the fact that you selected a different edition than expected.

Confirm the connection and repeat the title check
Open another online function or the console’s internet-connection test, then repeat the Minecraft icon’s Software Update → Via the Internet command. Wi-Fi is sufficient; Nintendo also documents a wired connection through an Ethernet cable in the Switch 2 dock for docked use. An Ethernet cable is optional, not a prerequisite for ordinary Wi-Fi updating.
Update the console separately
Go to HOME → System Settings → System → System Update. Install any offered system update, restart if requested, and then repeat the Minecraft title check. Updating system firmware cannot substitute for the game’s own update command.
Check whether the release is newer than the console’s rollout
A changelog entry is a published release reference, not a guarantee that every platform or region presents the package simultaneously. If the live release index shows a newer entry than the one you expected, wait briefly and repeat the online check rather than assuming the console is defective. Before concluding that an update is missing, determine whether the HOME icon represents the native Switch 2 title or the older Switch title. The publisher describes separate editions and a separate upgrade offer. Installing a routine patch on the older title does not automatically turn that icon into the native Switch 2 edition.

How do I tell whether I have the native Switch 2 edition?
Start with the selected HOME icon and your ownership record, not with the fact that the game runs on Switch 2. The native release launched on October 27, 2026, while an older Switch copy can also run on the newer console.
Native-edition ownership options
The publisher identifies Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate digital editions for Switch 2, plus a physical Switch 2 Standard Edition sold at retail. Minecraft says its digital upgrade offer runs from October 27, 2026, at 9 a.m. PT, through January 31, 2027, at 9 a.m. PT. In most territories, an owner of a digital Switch copy can upgrade to the digital Switch 2 Standard Edition at no charge through Nintendo eShop. The publisher specifies different prices in three markets: 100 JPY in Japan, 30 NTD in Taiwan, and 25 THB in Thailand.
Deluxe and Ultimate digital upgrades are discounted rather than described as universally free. When an owner, including a physical-copy owner, launches the older Switch game on Switch 2 during the offer, the game can present an in-game invitation to a discounted digital Ultimate Collection. That invitation is not the same as a blanket free Standard digital upgrade for every physical owner.
How this affects troubleshooting
If the HOME menu contains both an older Switch title and a native Switch 2 title, update and inspect each icon separately. Do I need Nintendo Switch Online or a Microsoft account to update?
No subscription or Microsoft account is listed as a prerequisite for the local HOME-menu update check. The console needs internet access for Via the Internet, but Nintendo Switch Online is associated with online multiplayer rather than downloading a routine software patch.
Minecraft states that Bedrock cross-play on Switch 2 is supported. Online multiplayer requires Nintendo Switch Online, and cross-platform play requires a Microsoft account.
