Microsoft says the expanded Windows rollout includes AMD, Intel, NVIDIA, and Qualcomm devices, with Gears of War: E-Day the first game to support ASD across that broader ecosystem. It is not a universal GPU setting: the game, driver, Windows version, and storefront must all support it.
Why does my PC compile shaders when I start a game?
Games use shaders to render visual effects. When the necessary shader data is not already available in a usable form, a game may compile it on the player’s device during launch or gameplay. That work can extend initial loading and cause shader compilation stutter. Microsoft also notes that on-device compilation can increase power use. Microsoft’s Advanced Shader Delivery overview describes the technology’s aim of reducing these waits.
How Advanced Shader Delivery is meant to help
ASD moves much of that work earlier. For a supported game and hardware configuration, precompiled shader data is delivered with the game, allowing the Windows shader cache to provide it when needed instead of requiring the device to compile as much at first launch. Microsoft first introduced ASD for the ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X, where shaders are delivered around game download and cached for first launch. The newer announcement expands the supported Windows device ecosystem beyond that initial handheld rollout.
Does Advanced Shader Delivery work on NVIDIA, Intel, and Qualcomm GPUs?
Microsoft’s October 2026 announcement says the expanded Windows ecosystem includes AMD, Intel, NVIDIA, and Qualcomm hardware, and names Gears of War: E-Day as the first game supporting ASD across it. This is an ecosystem-level rollout statement, not confirmation that every GPU from those vendors or every game is compatible. Support depends on the particular game and store integration, as well as an ASD-capable GPU and driver and a supported Windows version. Check Microsoft’s current ASD overview and the game’s own requirements for the latest device-specific details.

In March 2026, Microsoft’s DirectX Developer Blog reported vendor-specific plans and support statements: Intel said its drivers supported ASD on Lunar Lake and Panther Lake; NVIDIA said it was working with Microsoft toward a GeForce RTX launch later in 2026; Qualcomm said it was partnering with Microsoft to bring the feature to Adreno X2 GPUs. Those were statements made at that time, not guarantees of current availability for every model. The later October announcement is the more recent description of the expanded ecosystem. Microsoft’s March 2026 GDC update contains the dated vendor statements.
Which games support Advanced Shader Delivery?
Microsoft identifies Gears of War: E-Day as the first game to support ASD across the expanded Windows device ecosystem. That does not establish support for other games, editions, stores, or all configurations of that title. A game needs developer integration and compatible storefront delivery; Microsoft directs developers to collect a state object database (SODB) and submit it with the game package through Xbox Partner Center. How do I enable Advanced Shader Delivery?
ASD is a Windows 11 Direct3D 12 technology, but the documented prerequisites are compatibility requirements rather than a universal switch users can turn on for any game. Microsoft lists a supported Windows version, an ASD-capable GPU and driver, and storefront integration. Before troubleshooting shader waits, check the current ASD overview and the specific game listing for their exact Windows, driver, hardware, and store requirements. If a game or store does not support ASD, there is no general Windows toggle that makes its shaders arrive precompiled.

Microsoft reports an approximately 95% reduction in shader compilation time. Treat this as Microsoft’s reported result, not a guaranteed improvement for an individual PC or a like-for-like comparison across GPU brands. The announcement does not establish a universal test setup, so it cannot predict a particular game’s load time or quantify how much shader-related stutter a player will avoid. ASD addresses shader compilation waits and shader-related stutter specifically; it is not a promise to eliminate every cause of game stutter.
