Microsoft announced on March 21, 2023, that Bing Image Creator was available in Microsoft Edge through the sidebar on desktop and mobile for users around the world in English. It could also be opened from Bing chat in Edge. The announcement described a phased rollout, so “globally” meant the stated geographic scope—not that every account received access at once.
What Bing Image Creator did in Edge
Image Creator turned a written description into an image inside Microsoft’s Bing and Edge experiences. In its March 2023 announcement, Microsoft said the tool was powered by an advanced version of OpenAI’s DALL-E model. That describes the launch-era product; it does not establish which model Edge uses in 2026.

What “globally” and “in English” meant
The March announcement specified Edge users around the world in English, but also called the rollout phased. The wording establishes Microsoft’s intended reach and language at announcement time; it is not proof that every user or account had access simultaneously.
On May 4, 2023, Microsoft said Image Creator in Bing was expanding to more than 100 languages. That was a later Bing update, not a precise guarantee of language coverage for every Edge entry point. Microsoft’s May 4, 2023 update

How the model and service changed after launch
- October 2022: Microsoft began a limited preview in selected markets and described an early integration of OpenAI’s DALL-E 2. Microsoft’s October 20, 2022 announcement
- October 2023: Bing said DALL-E 3 was generally available in Bing Chat and Bing.com/create for free. The announcement also described Content Credentials and an invisible watermark following the C2PA specification. Bing’s October 3, 2023 announcement
- December 2024: Microsoft announced a rollout of DALL-E 3 PR16 and the additional Bing search and Edge address bar entry points. This is the latest dated model update established here, not confirmation of the model served in 2026. Microsoft’s December 2024 update

Safeguards Microsoft described
Microsoft’s 2022 preview announcement described content filters, moderation policies, and precautions such as not rendering prompt text inside generated images and potentially distorting faces. In March 2023, the company said it worked with OpenAI on mitigations and marked outputs with a modified Bing icon.

In October 2023, Bing described C2PA Content Credentials and an invisible watermark for AI-generated images. What is not established for Edge in 2026
The dated announcements establish a historical rollout, not today’s operational details. They do not confirm the current Edge version required, whether an account is needed, the present region list, usage limits, exact sidebar placement, or which model an Edge user receives on October 4, 2026. Check Microsoft’s current product guidance or Edge interface for those specifics before relying on them.
