What does “Microsoft Rewards is not giving me points” mean?

First identify what you see. Searches, quizzes, Xbox quests, shopping offers, and displayed balances can each have different explanations.

1. You may have reached the daily Bing search limit

The current Microsoft Rewards About page lists qualifying searches at 5 points each, with limits based on the membership tier shown for the account:

PC and mobile searches count toward the same daily total. Searching on a phone after filling the PC counter does not provide another full allowance. Once the counter is full, further searches do not earn search points until it resets.

Older Microsoft support material mentions different “Level 1” and “Level 2” figures, including 10 and 30 searches. Do not treat those numbers as a universal current schedule. Check the counter and earning details on your own Earn page; the displayed limit for your account and region controls what should happen.

2. A temporary search restriction may be active

Microsoft can temporarily stop searches from qualifying when activity resembles point farming. You may see a notice that searches will qualify only after a specified period, or that searches during a period will not qualify. Microsoft says restrictions may be removed after search patterns return to normal, but it does not publish a guaranteed reset time.

To avoid triggering or worsening a restriction:

• Spread genuine searches throughout the day.
• Do not enter random letters or numbers solely to generate searches.
• Avoid rapid, back-to-back searches and rapidly clicking through articles or bookmarks.
• Do not use bots, macros, scripts, automated programs, or emulators to generate searches.

Repeated violations can lead to account suspension and invalidation of points. Stop repeated searches when a restriction message appears.

3. Give Mode may be diverting the points

Microsoft identifies Give Mode as a reason searches may not increase your expected personal balance and as a cause of differences in the dashboard balance.

1. Open the Microsoft Rewards dashboard.
2. Look for the Give Mode setting or indicator.
3. Turn it off if you want qualifying points credited to your regular personal Rewards balance.
4. Return to the dashboard and check Points breakdown.

The control’s exact location can change. Use the current dashboard toggle rather than an older walkthrough.

4. Bing may be signed into the wrong Microsoft account

Points belong to the Microsoft account signed in at the earning entry point. You may have a different account open in the Rewards dashboard, Bing, MSN, the Bing mobile app, Xbox, or another earning surface. Browser data may also not be synchronized with the Rewards database.

Verify the account in this order:

1. Open the Rewards dashboard and note the displayed account identity.
2. Open Bing or the app where you performed the activity.
3. Check that the same Microsoft account is signed in there.
4. Sign out and back in if the sessions do not match.
5. Check Earn and Points breakdown to see whether the activity was recorded.

Signing back in can fix a session or synchronization mismatch. It cannot restore points rejected because of a full cap, a restriction, a region violation, or invalid activity.

5. The search surface may not qualify

Microsoft lists Bing searches and supported methods such as the Bing app, Bing as the default search engine, Microsoft Launcher for Android, and the Microsoft Edge app. Availability differs by region. A search in Google or another search engine is not a Bing Rewards search, and a search typed into an unsupported app may not qualify even if the results page contains Bing content.

Do not confuse ordinary search points with the Default Search Bonus. Microsoft’s current About page says that bonus requires searches from the Bing search box on a computer, or from the browser address bar when Bing is the default search engine. You must search on at least 14 days in the calendar month; those days do not need to be consecutive. The bonus is awarded at the beginning of the following month, not immediately after the requirement is met. This requirement is for the Default Search Bonus, not necessarily every ordinary search-point opportunity.

6. A VPN, proxy, or recent travel may affect earning

Microsoft treats location manipulation and earning from multiple markets as policy issues. Disable VPNs, proxies, and other services that alter your apparent location before using Rewards.

Potentially problematic activity includes:

• Earning through a VPN or proxy or altering your apparent IP address.
• Trying to earn from more than one country on the same day.
• Consistently earning in multiple markets.
• Redeeming a reward outside the region associated with the account.

Microsoft says travelers may still earn while visiting another country where Rewards is available, provided they are not consistently earning in multiple markets. For redemptions, use the region associated with the account and do not use a VPN.

7. The task may have conditions or delayed crediting

A visible activity card does not always mean “click once and receive points immediately.” Read the offer on the current Earn page and check for conditions such as:

• A required device, app, or platform.
• A minimum number of days.
• A purchase window or completion deadline.
• A daily or monthly cap.
• A particular country or region.
• A required account or subscription status.

Microsoft says opportunities such as quizzes and trivia activities are updated daily, and limits and terms vary by country and region. For example, the Default Search Bonus requires searches on at least 14 days in the month and is paid at the start of the following month.

8. Xbox and Microsoft Store purchases are not automatically eligible

Microsoft Store and Xbox activity varies by country and offer. Microsoft says Microsoft Store purchases on Xbox may not earn points in every region.

For a Microsoft Store purchase, confirm that you were signed in with the Microsoft account associated with Rewards. Check the offer’s product, platform, purchase window, and regional terms. Completing a purchase alone does not prove that points are owed.

What to do when Microsoft Rewards is not crediting points

1. Check the dashboard and account. Confirm the account, activity card status, search counter, Give Mode setting, and balance.
2. Open Points breakdown. Look for a record of the search, quiz, quest, offer, or purchase.
3. Check the offer terms. Look for device, app, region, deadline, cap, multi-day, or delayed-payment requirements.
4. Stop artificial searches. Do not use rapid searches, random characters, bots, macros, scripts, or emulators.

Give Microsoft enough detail to locate the activity:

• Any earning-limit or error message.

Avoid creating another account, using a VPN to test another market, or installing a search automation tool. Multiple accounts and automated activity can create a larger Rewards compliance problem instead of fixing the original one.
