Xbox announced that US console prices will rise on August 1, 2026: by $100 for 512GB models and $150 for 1TB models. Using Microsoft’s last published US model prices, those increases imply new recommended prices from $499.99 for the 512GB Series S to $799.99 for the 1TB Series X. Those model-by-model figures are calculations, not a revised price list quoted by Xbox.
How much are Xbox prices going up?
Team Xbox announced the increases on June 25, 2026, with the new prices effective August 1. The announcement states the increases by storage tier rather than listing a new price for every console configuration: 512GB models rise by $100, and 1TB models rise by $150. Xbox’s announcement describes changes worldwide, but gives the increase amounts in US dollars for US buyers.
Microsoft’s US price table, dated October 3, 2025, listed these recommended prices. Applying the announced category increases produces the following derived figures:
| Console configuration | US price listed October 3, 2025 | Derived price after announced increase |
|---|---|---|
| Xbox Series S, 512GB | $399.99 | $499.99 |
| Xbox Series S, 1TB | $449.99 | $599.99 |
| Xbox Series X Digital, 1TB | $599.99 | $749.99 |
| Xbox Series X, 1TB | $649.99 | $799.99 |
| Xbox Series X, 2TB Galaxy Black | $799.99 | Being sunset; no new price stated |
The historical prices come from Microsoft’s US console price table. The derived figures add $100 to the 512GB price and $150 to each 1TB price. Xbox did not provide a new model-by-model US price table in the June announcement. It said it would sunset the 2TB model, so the table’s old price should not be read as a new or continuing recommended price.

Why is Microsoft raising prices?
Xbox said it had hoped to avoid another increase and had spent several months working with suppliers. The company cited higher storage and memory costs and a components crisis affecting consumer electronics, with consoles particularly exposed. Team Xbox said storage and memory prices had increased by more than 2.5 times and forecast another doubling by fall 2027. That is Xbox’s forecast, not a guaranteed future price change.
Xbox also characterized consoles as products typically sold below manufacturing cost. That is the company’s explanation for the pricing decision, not a verified cost breakdown for each model or retailer.

What should buyers compare before choosing a console?
Storage capacity
Series S comes in 512GB and 1TB configurations; Series X options include 1TB and 2TB, although Xbox says the 2TB model is being sunset. Storage matters if you keep many large games installed. Microsoft sells a separate Xbox Series X|S Storage Expansion Card that connects through the console’s dedicated expansion port and is designed to deliver the console’s custom SSD performance.
Disc drive and resolution
Series S is disc-free. Series X is available with a UHD Blu-ray disc drive, as well as in a digital 1TB configuration. Xbox describes Series X as native 4K and Series S as designed for 1440p with the ability to upscale to 4K. Both are described as supporting frame rates up to 120 FPS, subject to the game and display. See Xbox’s console comparison for the configuration details.

Real purchase cost and condition
Recommended prices are not guaranteed checkout prices. Retailer offers, stock, and availability can differ; Microsoft’s product information notes that prices and availability may vary by retailer. Compare the current price of the exact model and condition you want, and factor in whether you need a disc drive or extra storage.
When Microsoft’s store was checked, it listed certified refurbished Series X consoles from $549.99 and a refurbished 1TB digital model at $599.99, while listed 2TB consoles were out of stock. These are observed listings, not a promise of ongoing price or availability. The Microsoft Store console listings can change.

Can you pay less than the recommended price?
Xbox said Microsoft Stores offer certified refurbished consoles for up to $100 off MSRP. It also said it was working with retail partners on previously played consoles and trade-ins. These are routes to investigate, not guaranteed discounts on a particular model: check the current listing, condition, stock, and trade-in terms before buying.
The announcement also mentioned eligible buy-now-pay-later and partner 0% APR options. Availability, eligibility, and terms vary by region; the announcement does not identify a specific third-party retailer or program. Compare the total amount payable and the terms rather than assuming a payment plan makes a console cheaper.
