Microsoft has reportedly added the idea of bringing Windows XP’s 3D Pinball back to a list of possibilities—but that is not a promise that the game will return to Windows 11. The report describes a community request being considered, not a feature in development or a confirmed release.

Windows Latest reported on October 6, 2026, that Microsoft Windows & Devices executive vice president Pavan Davuluri said the request would be added to the “matrix for things to think about.” He was responding to a community request to “Bring back 3D pinball,” selected for the Inside Windows podcast alongside Marcus Ash, corporate vice president of Design and Research. Windows Latest’s report attributes that wording to Davuluri; the original podcast recording or transcript is not independently available here.

That phrasing signals consideration, not a product decision. The report does not say Microsoft has assigned a team to restore the game, scheduled it for Windows 11, or committed to shipping it at all.
Will 3D Pinball come back to Windows 11?
It is possible, but there is no confirmed return or release date. The available reporting establishes only that the request was reportedly placed on a consideration list. A proposal on such a list is distinct from an announced, staffed, or released feature; no further status is established by the report.

Why Windows XP was the last Windows release with Pinball
Microsoft engineer Raymond Chen explained that Windows XP was the last client version of Windows to include Pinball. During the effort to port Windows XP to 64-bit, the ball could pass through objects because collision detection failed. The game had been written by an outside company, its source code was licensed from another company, and much of the code was uncommented and poorly understood inside Microsoft.
With a large Windows porting workload underway, the team chose not to spend time tracing the obscure bug. Chen recalled: “We just made the executive decision right there to drop Pinball from the product.” His account describes the practical reason for removing it at the time; it does not establish whether the same technical or licensing issues would prevent a modern return. What would count as a confirmed return
Davuluri’s reported comment does not establish any of the milestones that would turn the idea into a Windows feature:
- An official announcement that Microsoft will restore the game
- Confirmation that a team is developing or porting it
- A stated Windows version, release window, or distribution method
Until Microsoft provides one of those details, the accurate takeaway is that the idea is reportedly under consideration—not that 3D Pinball is coming to Windows 11.
