If Clipchamp is not working, first identify whether it will not open, a project or media asset is stuck loading, export fails, or sign-in is looping. Use the Windows app or current Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome on a desktop or laptop, then try the symptom-specific checks below. Before clearing cache or site data, make sure your original media files are accessible outside Clipchamp.
Microsoft’s support guidance recommends starting with refreshes, updates, available resources, and extensions before trying more disruptive changes. These steps can help isolate a cause, but no single fix is guaranteed.
First, check which Clipchamp version and account you use
Clipchamp is available as a Windows app and through a supported desktop browser. Microsoft says the editor works best in current Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome; Safari and Firefox do not support the editor at this stage.
| Route or account | Where to start | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Windows app | Open Start and select Microsoft Clipchamp. | Restart and update the app. If it still fails, test the project in a supported browser. |
| Personal account | Open app.clipchamp.com. | Use current Edge or Chrome and check browser extensions, site data, and permissions. |
| Work or school account | Use the Clipchamp route provided through your Microsoft 365 organization. | Access may depend on an assigned license, administrator enablement, and organization-managed browser or network settings. |
Try these fixes in order
1. Refresh Clipchamp and reopen the project
Reload the page or restart the app. For a project or assets that remain stuck loading, return to the project overview, refresh it, and reopen the project. A hard refresh such as Ctrl+F5 may help. Confirm that your internet connection is working.

- The adjustable universal clip lets you attach the camera securely to your screen or laptop, or fold the clip and set the webcam on a shelf. You’re always ready for your next video call.
2. Update Clipchamp, your browser, and Windows
Use a current version of the Windows app or Edge or Chrome, and install available Windows updates. Restart the computer after updates, then test Clipchamp again.
3. Check extensions, tabs, memory, and disk space
Temporarily disable browser extensions, especially ad blockers, privacy tools, translation extensions, or script blockers, then reload Clipchamp. Close unused browser tabs and applications to free resources. Check that the internal drive has enough available space for the project’s media files. Keep Clipchamp in the foreground during demanding editing and export work.
4. Protect original media before clearing data
If you need to clear browser cache or Clipchamp site data, first confirm that the original video, audio, and image files remain accessible outside Clipchamp. Microsoft warns that source files may need to be relinked when a project reopens after cached data is cleared. Keep the media folders available so you can locate files again if prompted.

5. Repair the Windows app

If Clipchamp opens but export freezes, fails, or takes unusually long, keep the editor in the foreground, wait for demanding projects, and work through these checks.
- Close unused applications and browser tabs, then retry the export.
- Update Clipchamp, your browser, Windows, and the graphics driver where applicable.
- Check available internal disk space and temporarily disable browser extensions.
- If the project is large or export is slow, try a lower output resolution, such as 720p or 1080p instead of 4K, if that suits your needs.
- For a personal account, if export problems continue, try turning off hardware acceleration in Clipchamp’s Settings > Export.
- If export repeatedly fails at the same point, make a copy of the project and remove or replace media near that point, or split the project into shorter sections.
If the export finishes but you cannot find the video, check your Downloads folder and the browser’s chosen save location. Check browser download or pop-up permissions. For work or school projects, check the project’s Exports folder in OneDrive or SharePoint if that is the configured destination.

Fix a project or media asset that will not load
Refresh Clipchamp, reopen the project from its overview, and check your internet connection. Close other apps and tabs, temporarily disable extensions, and check available memory and internal storage. If one file remains stuck or a repeated export failure points to a particular segment, try replacing that media with a more compatible copy, such as a converted MP4. You can also test a copy of a long project in shorter sections.
Do not clear cache or site data until you have confirmed you can access the source files outside Clipchamp. If the project asks you to relink media after reopening, use the original files.
Fix sign-in loops and work or school access
First confirm whether you are using a personal Microsoft account or a work or school account, and open the matching Clipchamp route. Work or school access can depend on a license that includes Clipchamp and whether the organization has enabled the app. Ask your Microsoft 365 administrator to check access if Clipchamp is missing or blocked.

If sign-in keeps looping, sign out, close browser windows, clear relevant Clipchamp or Microsoft sign-in cookies and cached data, restart the browser, and try again. Cookie restrictions, privacy or script blockers, VPN or proxy settings, conditional access, and organization-managed policies can also affect sign-in. Do not try to bypass organization controls; ask your administrator to review licensing, access policies, cookies, and network settings.
Check device resources
Video editing can use substantial memory, processing capacity, and storage. Microsoft Support recommends at least 8 GB of RAM, with 16 GB or more better. This is guidance for smoother use, not a diagnosis or a reason to upgrade before checking simpler causes.
| Symptom | Checks to try |
|---|---|
| Timeline or project is slow | Close other apps and tabs, check memory and disk space, and test a shorter project section. |
| Export is slow or fails | Keep Clipchamp in the foreground, free resources and disk space, try a lower resolution, and check for problematic media. |
| Project or assets stay loading | Refresh, check internet access, disable extensions temporarily, and confirm original media is available. |
Recommended repair order
- Identify the symptom and whether you use the app, browser, personal account, or work or school account.
- Refresh Clipchamp and reopen the project; confirm internet access.
- Use current Edge or Chrome, update the app or browser, and install available Windows updates.
- Close unused apps and tabs, check disk space, and temporarily disable extensions.
- For exports, keep Clipchamp in the foreground and try a lower resolution if appropriate.
- Test a copy of a long project or replace media near a repeatable failure point.
- Clear cache or site data only after confirming that original media is available.
- For work or school sign-in problems, ask the organization’s administrator to check licensing, enablement, policies, and network settings.
FAQ
Why is my Clipchamp project or media stuck loading?
Refresh Clipchamp and reopen the project, check internet access, close other apps and tabs, and temporarily disable extensions. If you clear cache or site data, keep original media accessible because files may need to be relinked.
Best Value
What should I try if a Clipchamp export is stuck or fails?
Keep Clipchamp in the foreground, close unused apps and tabs, check disk space, and update the app or browser. Try a lower resolution if suitable. A repeatable failure point may indicate problematic media nearby.
Can I use Clipchamp in Firefox or Safari?
Microsoft says the editor works best in current Edge or Chrome and that Safari and Firefox do not support it at this stage. Try a current version of Edge or Chrome on a desktop or laptop.
Why does Clipchamp keep asking me to sign in?
Check that you are using the correct personal or work or school route. For a sign-in loop, sign out, close browser windows, clear relevant Clipchamp or Microsoft sign-in cookies and cached data, restart, and retry. Managed policies or network settings may require help from your organization’s administrator.
Where did my exported Clipchamp video go?
Check Downloads and the browser’s selected save location, and make sure browser downloads or pop-ups are allowed. For work or school projects, check the configured Exports folder in OneDrive or SharePoint.
Most Clipchamp troubleshooting starts with the right account and supported browser, a refresh, current software, and enough available resources. If the problem continues, use the steps for the specific symptom and contact Clipchamp support or your organization’s IT team when account or managed-network settings are involved.
