What is Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank about?
Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank follows Hank, a dog who ends up in a town inhabited by cats. When a ruthless villain threatens to wipe out the village, Hank receives help from a reluctant trainer and takes on the role of a samurai. The central joke and conflict come from Hank trying to protect a community whose residents traditionally dislike dogs.
Paramount describes the movie as an animation, family, and comedy adventure. The official Paramount film page lists a PG rating and a 98-minute running time. Hulu presents the same movie as approximately 1 hour and 37 minutes; those descriptions are equivalent rounding conventions rather than different cuts.
Who voices the characters in the movie?
Michael Cera voices Hank. Samuel L. Jackson voices Jimbo, the reluctant trainer who helps Hank learn the samurai role, while Ricky Gervais voices Ika Chu, the villain threatening the village. The broader principal voice cast includes the following performers:
| Voice actor | Character |
|---|---|
| Michael Cera | Hank |
| Samuel L. Jackson | Jimbo |
| Ricky Gervais | Ika Chu |
| Mel Brooks | the Shogun |
| George Takei | Ohga |
| Michelle Yeoh | Yuki |
| Gabriel Iglesias | Chuck |
| Aasif Mandvi | Ichiro |
| Djimon Hounsou | Sumo |
| Kylie Kuioka | Emiko |
The movie was directed by Rob Minkoff, Mark Koetsier, and Chris Bailey. Ed Stone and Nate Hopper are listed as writers, with additional story and writing credits associated with Mel Brooks, Norman Steinberg, Andrew Bergman, Richard Pryor, and Alan Uger. Paramount’s official film information provides the most complete version of the credited cast and creative team.
How does the Hulu availability compare with the movie’s earlier releases?
The Hulu addition was one stage in a longer release history, not the movie’s first theatrical or streaming appearance.
| Release window | Timing | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Theatrical release | July 2022 | The movie first reached North American cinemas during summer 2022. |
| Paramount+ | August 29, 2022 | Paramount announced U.S. and Canadian streaming availability on Paramount+. |
| DVD and Blu-ray | October 18, 2022 | Physical editions became available in the United States. |
| Hulu | September 29, 2024 | The movie was added to the U.S. Hulu catalog. |
Paramount’s film page gives July 22, 2022 as the theatrical date, while other release references report July 15, 2022 as the wide date. Because release calendars can use different date conventions or reflect schedule changes, “July 2022 theatrical release” is the safest broad description. Paramount separately announced the U.S. and Canadian Paramount+ release in its August 29, 2022 press release.
Should you stream the movie or buy a copy?
Streaming on Hulu is the simplest choice if the movie is included in the viewer’s plan and the viewer only needs temporary access. Buying a physical copy is more suitable for families who want repeat access without depending on a streaming license, internet connection, or future catalog availability.

The film’s U.S. DVD and Blu-ray release is documented for October 18, 2022, and Amazon’s current title page displays physical formats as well as digital viewing options. If long-term access matters, compare the Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank Blu-ray with the Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank DVD rather than assuming a Hulu listing is permanent. The Blu-ray is the stronger choice for compatible high-definition equipment; the DVD is a practical alternative for standard DVD playback. Neither format should be treated as a fixed-price or guaranteed-inventory offer.
Amazon’s page also presents options to rent or buy the movie digitally. Digital rental or purchase can be a middle ground between a subscription and physical ownership, but the exact price, rights, and availability require a live check. The documented physical-media date appears in DVD release references, while the available formats can be reviewed on Amazon’s Prime Video listing.

Where else might the movie be available?
A U.S. availability snapshot from JustWatch, checked on July 28, 2026, reported the movie on Hulu and Paramount+ tiers and listed digital rental or purchase options through Amazon Video, Apple TV, and Fandango At Home. That snapshot is useful for comparison but is not a permanent availability guarantee. Use Hulu’s own movie page to confirm Hulu access, and check each retailer or service immediately before subscribing, renting, or buying.
Paramount+ is part of the movie’s distribution history, but its earlier U.S. and Canadian release does not by itself prove that the title remains available there now. Hulu’s subscription page also notes that plan availability and content can vary by location. The confirmed Hulu arrival and current catalog listing apply specifically to the U.S. context described by the available sources.
Who is this Hulu movie best for?
Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank is best suited to families looking for a PG animated comedy with a fast-moving adventure premise, animal characters, martial-arts parody, and a recognizable voice cast. The dog-in-a-cat-village setup gives younger viewers an immediate comic hook, while the samurai training story supplies the movie’s main adventure structure.
Viewers should choose Hulu for convenience when the title is included in their local catalog. Viewers who expect to revisit the movie after the Hulu license changes should consider the DVD or Blu-ray ownership route instead. The soundtrack is also available as a separate digital music release, but soundtrack access is an optional extra rather than part of the movie’s Hulu availability.
