Meta Muse and Alibaba’s Qwen agent announcements point to two different ways of building a personal assistant: Muse is described as working through a browser and connected apps, while Qwen’s announced services draw on integrations with commerce, payments, travel and local-service platforms in China. Neither company’s cited announcements verifies a “400 features” count, and the available evidence does not establish that one system is better. The useful comparison is what each was announced to do, which services it can reach, what controls are described, and where it was available.
What does the “400 features” claim actually tell us?
On the evidence available for this comparison, it tells us nothing reliable about either product: the cited Meta and Alibaba announcements do not verify a count of 400 features. They describe selected capabilities, but do not define a shared feature-counting method, specify a complete product scope, or publish a date-stamped inventory that adds up to that number.
A feature count can combine unlike things: a supported app, a single action, a workflow with several steps, or a permission setting might each be counted as one. Without a definition and a consistent method, a large count cannot show how reliably an assistant completes a task, whether it can access the service a user needs, or when it pauses for approval.

For this comparison, treat the number as unverified rather than as a product specification. The announcements are more useful when read as vendor descriptions of particular tasks and integrations at particular dates and in particular markets. They are not independent evaluations, and they do not establish a head-to-head result.

What is the difference between an AI agent and a chatbot?
In Meta’s description, a chatbot answers prompts, while an agent can take actions across the web and connected apps, work through multiple steps, and continue some tasks in the background. That is Meta’s functional framing, not a universal technical definition; the practical distinction is whether the system can act on a task after the user asks, rather than only provide instructions or a response.
A response versus a task
A chatbot might explain how to find a restaurant or book a trip. An agentic assistant, as described in these announcements, might carry the task into a connected service: for example, call a restaurant, organize a multi-stop itinerary, or place an order. Those examples describe announced capabilities, not a guarantee that every attempt succeeds without user intervention.
Actions, tools and approvals matter
Calling a capability “agentic” does not tell a user which services it can reach, what information it can use, or whether it can finalize an action. Those details determine the real experience. A useful comparison therefore looks beyond a feature label to the assistant’s service connections, task scope, approval points and availability.

What can Meta Muse actually do?
Meta introduced Muse on September 8, 2026, describing it as a personal agent for multistep tasks through connected apps and a browser. Meta said Muse could fill out forms, pursue tasks or longer-term goals, and continue some work in the background. These are Meta’s product claims; the announcements do not provide independent reliability testing.
How Meta describes task execution
According to Meta, Muse runs in a dedicated virtual machine with a browser and can be used through the Muse app or WhatsApp. The browser gives it a way to interact with web pages, while connected apps can extend the work into services the user has authorized. Meta’s examples include filling forms and handling tasks that take more than one step.

That description suggests a general-purpose approach: the assistant works through a browser and selected app connections rather than being limited to one announced commerce catalog. It does not establish that Muse can operate every website or third-party app, or that any particular task will work consistently. The announcement’s product description is not a substitute for a tested list of supported services and task outcomes.
What user controls does Meta describe?
Meta says users can configure connection permissions, review an audit trail, and approve certain sensitive actions. Its examples of actions that prompt for approval include sending email and making purchases. Meta also says users can opt out of having interactions used to train its AI models.

These controls are relevant design claims, not a safety guarantee or independent verification of how every permission, approval or audit entry behaves in practice. Before relying on an agent for consequential work, users should check the current controls in the product and review what it is asking to access or do.
Where and how did Meta say Muse was rolling out?
Meta’s September 8, 2026 announcement described a rollout in the United States on iOS, Android and muse.ai. It characterized Muse as free for most needs, with subscription plans for people who want to do more. The announcement does not establish current availability or the present details of any subscription, so users should check Meta’s current product information before deciding whether they can use it or what it costs.
What did Alibaba announce about Qwen’s agents in China?
Alibaba’s January 15, 2026 announcement described Qwen App agentic capabilities entering public testing in China through integrations with several Alibaba services. The company listed tasks including food ordering, in-chat payment, travel planning and booking, and restaurant calls. It separately described a Task Assistant as being in invite-only beta at that time.

Qwen App’s announced service integrations
The January announcement named Taobao, Taobao Instant Commerce, Alipay, Fliggy and Amap as integrations. Alibaba presented these connections as a way to carry out activities such as ordering food, paying in chat and planning or booking travel. This is a service-centered approach: the assistant’s stated reach is tied to an ecosystem of commerce, payment, travel and mapping products.

What was the Task Assistant beta?
Alibaba said its Task Assistant was in invite-only beta in January 2026, distinct from the public testing described for Qwen App’s broader agentic capabilities. Listed examples included calling restaurants, planning trips with multiple stops, processing documents and building lightweight web applications.
The beta examples suggest a wider task ambition than commerce alone, but the announcement does not establish how widely users could access it, how the tasks performed, or whether the beta’s scope later changed. Keep the invite-only status attached to that January announcement rather than describing it as a current availability claim.
What did the later Taobao connection add?
In an announcement dated May 11, 2026, Alibaba said Qwen was connected to Taobao’s catalog for conversational product browsing, comparison, ordering and delivery management in China. This is a concrete example of an assistant working inside a commerce ecosystem, from product discovery through post-order handling.

That integration shows what Alibaba announced for a specific shopping service; it does not prove that all Qwen experiences support those steps, that the system performs them better than Muse, or that every Chinese AI agent has the same reach.
How do Meta Muse and Qwen compare?
The announcements support a narrow comparison of stated scope, service connections, controls and product state. They do not support a comprehensive ranking of China’s AI agents or an independent quality verdict.
| Comparison point | Meta Muse | Alibaba Qwen announcements |
|---|---|---|
| Task approach described | Browser and connected-app work; multistep tasks, form filling and some background work (Meta, September 8, 2026). | Tasks across named commerce, payment, travel and local-service integrations; examples include ordering, payment, travel planning and restaurant calls (Alibaba, January 15, 2026). |

Task execution: broader workflow or named service path?
Muse’s described browser-and-app approach is framed around carrying out work across connected services. Qwen’s cited examples are more explicitly attached to named local services and flows, including payment, travel and shopping. These descriptions reveal different announced routes to task completion, not a measured difference in capability or quality.
Ecosystem reach: general web access or integrated services?
Meta describes Muse as using a browser and user-authorized app connections. Alibaba’s announcements emphasize a set of integrations with its own services, including a Taobao shopping connection. The distinction matters if a task depends on a particular service: an assistant can only help through services it supports and is allowed to access. The cited material does not provide a complete, current compatibility list for either product.

Meta publicly described permissions, an audit trail and prompts for certain sensitive actions. The cited Alibaba announcements focus on tasks and integrations rather than comparable control mechanisms. That means the available material permits a description of what Meta says Muse offers, but not a conclusion that Muse has stronger controls than Qwen; absence of a detail in these announcements is not proof that a product lacks it.

Which assistant should you choose?
There is no evidence-backed overall winner in these announcements. A sensible choice depends on where you live, which services you need the assistant to use, and whether the current product offers controls and access that fit your task.
- If you are in the United States and want browser-based task handling: Muse is the more directly relevant announcement because Meta described a U.S. rollout and browser-based work through connected apps. Confirm current access, supported services and pricing before relying on it.
- If your tasks depend on Alibaba’s Chinese services: Qwen’s announced integrations are directly relevant to food ordering, payments, travel, local services and Taobao shopping in China. Confirm which functions are currently available to your account, because the cited announcements distinguish public testing, invite-only beta and a later integration.
- If your task involves sensitive actions: Examine the live product’s permission and confirmation steps before connecting accounts or delegating work. Meta described specific controls for Muse; the cited Alibaba announcements do not provide a like-for-like account of Qwen’s controls.
- If you are comparing performance: Do not use feature totals or company examples as a reliability score. The cited sources do not report an independent, same-task evaluation of the two systems.
What does the evidence not establish?
Being precise about the limits prevents announcements from being mistaken for a benchmark or a current product directory.
- It does not verify 400 features. The cited announcements do not provide that statistic or explain how such a count would be made.
- It does not show which agent is more reliable. No independent head-to-head test is established here, and the company examples are not controlled performance results.
- It does not cover every Chinese agent. The China-side evidence concerns Alibaba’s Qwen announcements, not a representative survey of China’s AI assistant market.
- It does not confirm present-day availability or pricing. Product states and commercial terms can change after announcements dated January, May and September 2026.
- It does not prove security outcomes. Meta’s virtual-machine and control descriptions are company claims about design, not independent assurance that a particular action or account will be safe.
How should you evaluate an agent before trusting it with a task?
Use a small, low-consequence task to learn what the assistant can access and when it asks for permission. Do not infer that a system can safely handle a more consequential action merely because it completed a simpler one.
- Check availability first. Verify that the product is available in your country, on your device and in the product state you expect. A public test, invite-only beta and rollout are different levels of access.
- Identify the service path. Confirm whether the assistant will use a browser, a connected app, or a named service integration for the task. If the needed service is not supported or authorized, the assistant may not be able to complete the workflow.
- Review permissions before connecting accounts. Understand what access you are granting and whether it can be changed or revoked. Meta says Muse offers configurable connection permissions; check the current product interface for the exact choices.
- Watch the approval boundary. Notice which actions require confirmation and what information is presented before you approve. Meta says Muse prompts for approval for some sensitive actions, with email sending and purchases as examples.
- Inspect the outcome. Verify the result in the underlying service—such as the sent message, booking or order—rather than treating an agent’s completion message as independent confirmation.
Meta’s “personal agent” description and Alibaba’s agent announcements describe products that aim to act across services, but the comparison remains bounded by what the companies announced and when. The 400-feature figure is not substantiated by those announcements; task scope, integration fit, controls and current availability are more decision-useful.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use Qwen’s announced agent features outside China?
The cited Alibaba announcements describe the relevant testing and integrations in China; they do not establish access or equivalent integrations in other countries. Check the current Qwen product information for your location rather than assuming that a China-specific service path is available abroad.
Does Meta Muse need my passwords to use connected apps?
The cited Meta description says Muse can use connected apps and that 1Password integration was expected, but it does not establish the exact login flow or current availability of that integration. Review the sign-in and permission screens in the live product before connecting an account.
Can an AI agent make a mistake after I approve an action?
Approval prompts give a user a chance to review certain actions; they do not by themselves establish that the underlying information or result is correct. Verify consequential bookings, purchases or messages in the service where they took place.
Is Qwen the only Chinese AI agent covered by these announcements?
No. The evidence discussed here concerns Alibaba’s Qwen announcements only, so it cannot represent or rank the broader field of AI agents in China.
