Short answer: Tresorit is the easier choice to evaluate today because its current personal page clearly publishes three encrypted-storage tiers, supported platforms, sharing controls, and a documented end-to-end, zero-knowledge design. MEGA may be a better fit for some storage volumes or transfer patterns, but the current MEGA plan amounts, limits, and feature terms must be checked directly before you choose it. The practical winner depends on how much space you need, which devices you use, whether you send controlled links to outsiders, and how much collaboration you expect.

Which service is better in 2026?

There is no defensible universal winner from the currently verifiable information. Tresorit has the stronger documented case: its personal plans specify 50 GB, 1 TB, and 4 TB tiers, support Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS, and the web, and describe on-device encryption with local decryption. MEGA’s current storage, transfer, file-history, and link-sharing terms need confirmation on its own live plan pages before a price or feature comparison can be made reliably.

That evidence leads to a useful decision rule:

  • Choose Tresorit when transparent security documentation, controlled external sharing, and a clearly stated encrypted-storage tier matter more than finding an unverified lower price.
  • Shortlist MEGA when its directly checked current plans match your required storage and transfer allowance, especially if those limits are more important to your workload than Tresorit’s documented controls.
  • Do not decide from a search-result snippet, an old comparison table, or the phrase “zero knowledge” alone. Plan names, allowances, and account policies can change.

What do MEGA and Tresorit actually encrypt?

Tresorit says a file is encrypted on your device before upload and decrypted locally when you open it. It describes this as end-to-end encryption and a zero-knowledge architecture, with keys kept from the provider’s systems. That design is intended to prevent the storage operator from reading ordinary file contents, but it does not mean every account, billing, diagnostic, or operational detail is invisible to the operator.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For MEGA, the available material confirms that its plan summaries discuss storage, transfer, sharing, and file history, but it does not provide a current, directly verified description detailed enough to declare security parity with Tresorit. Treat MEGA’s encryption and key-management claims as items to verify on the current official security documentation before placing sensitive data there.

  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

What “zero knowledge” does and does not tell you

  • It generally describes protection of file content and the handling of encryption keys, not anonymity of your account or network activity.
  • A provider may still need account identifiers, payment records, support messages, abuse-prevention data, or connection metadata to operate the service.
  • Sharing can change the risk boundary. Once a recipient downloads or re-uploads a file, the recipient’s device and account controls matter as much as the original storage service.
  • Recovery and authentication choices remain important. A strong storage encryption model cannot rescue an account whose password or second factor has been compromised.

How do Tresorit’s personal plans compare?

Tresorit’s current personal page names three tiers. The storage amounts below are the published allowances; the page also assigns file-size, version-history, device-count, and link-sharing limits by tier, but the supplied figures do not include those exact maxima.

Plan Encrypted storage Platforms Device allowance File, history, and link limits Security and sharing features
Personal Lite 50 GB Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS, and web Varies by plan; exact count not stated here Tier-specific limits are listed by Tresorit; exact values not stated here End-to-end encryption, zero-knowledge architecture, two-factor authentication, and encrypted-link controls subject to plan
Personal Essential 1 TB Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS, and web Varies by plan; exact count not stated here Tier-specific limits are listed by Tresorit; exact values not stated here End-to-end encryption, zero-knowledge architecture, two-factor authentication, and encrypted-link controls subject to plan
Personal Pro 4 TB Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS, and web Varies by plan; exact count not stated here Tier-specific limits are listed by Tresorit; exact values not stated here End-to-end encryption, zero-knowledge architecture, two-factor authentication, and encrypted-link controls subject to plan

All three tiers therefore cover the major desktop and mobile operating systems as well as browser access. The meaningful differences are the storage ceiling and the plan-specific limits around devices, files, history, and links. Check those fields on the live plan page before paying, particularly if you routinely work from several computers or keep many revisions.

What is known—and not yet verified—about MEGA’s plans?

Search results surfaced MEGA plan summaries that refer to storage tiers, transfer allowances, sharing, and file-history features. However, the official MEGA pages could not be opened for direct verification in the material available for this comparison. The values shown in those snapshots vary by plan and by the date of the snapshot, so repeating them as current prices or quotas would be misleading.

Before selecting MEGA, record the following from its current official pages and the checkout screen:

  1. The storage amount included in the exact plan you intend to buy.
  2. Any transfer or bandwidth allowance, including whether it is a rolling limit, a monthly quota, or affected by network conditions.
  3. Maximum file size and the retention period or depth of file history.
  4. Whether link passwords, expiry dates, download limits, recipient verification, and other controls are available on that plan.
  5. Supported operating systems, browser requirements, and the number of devices that may remain signed in.
  6. The renewal price, billing interval, taxes, cancellation process, and what happens to data if a subscription expires.

This checklist is not a criticism of MEGA; it is a guard against comparing a current Tresorit page with an undated or secondary MEGA summary. Recheck both providers immediately before purchase because names and limits can change during 2026.

How do sharing controls affect the comparison?

Tresorit documents encrypted links and file requests with configurable protections. Depending on the plan and sharing method, controls can include a password, an expiry date, a limit on opens or downloads, email verification, and watermarking. Those controls let you reduce exposure when sending a document to someone who does not have your account.

When Tresorit’s link controls are useful

  • Short-lived delivery: Set an expiry for a file that should be available only during a project or review window.
  • Limited redistribution: Use download or open-count controls where the recipient only needs a defined number of accesses.
  • Identity checks: Require email verification when you need more assurance than an unprotected URL provides.
  • Visible deterrence: Apply watermarking to documents where attribution or leak tracing matters.
  • Inbound collection: Use a file request when another person needs to upload material without browsing the rest of your storage.

These settings are not a substitute for recipient trust. A recipient can still photograph a screen, copy text, or store a local copy while access is open. Also confirm which controls your chosen tier includes; Tresorit states that availability varies by plan.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

MEGA’s surfaced summaries mention link sharing, but the supplied evidence does not establish the current maximum file size, link-security options, or plan-by-plan collaboration controls. Compare those settings directly rather than assuming that a shared-link feature offers the same password, expiry, verification, or watermarking choices.

Which platforms and devices are supported?

Tresorit lists Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS, and web access across its personal tiers. That breadth suits a household or small team that mixes a Linux workstation with a Windows laptop and phones, or that needs a browser session while using a computer without the desktop client.

The number of permitted devices varies by Tresorit plan, and the exact counts are not included in the supplied material. Count every computer and phone you expect to keep active, then check the plan’s device rule before subscribing. A service can support your operating system yet still be inconvenient if you regularly exceed its signed-in-device allowance.

For MEGA, confirm the current application list and device policy on its official pages. Do not infer support from a third-party comparison or from the existence of a web interface; desktop synchronization behavior, mobile features, and device limits can differ by platform.

Which service fits different storage and collaboration needs?

For a small personal archive

Tresorit Personal Lite’s published 50 GB allowance can suit documents, scans, and a modest set of photos when you value an explicitly documented encrypted tier. It may be too small for a large media library, so estimate your current data plus growth rather than choosing from today’s free space alone.

  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.

For a growing multi-device collection

Personal Essential lists 1 TB, a more practical starting point for substantial photo, project, and backup files. Verify its device and history limits if you switch between several computers or need to restore older revisions frequently.

For a large encrypted library

Personal Pro lists 4 TB and is the Tresorit tier designed for the largest personal volume in the supplied plan set. Before committing, check the tier’s file-size and link limits against your largest media or archive objects; storage capacity alone does not guarantee that every individual file or sharing workflow will fit.

For controlled client or family sharing

Tresorit is the more clearly documented option when passwords, expiry, verification, download limits, or watermarking are central to your process. Map each recipient scenario to the exact controls available on your tier, and explain to recipients how long the link will work.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a workflow dominated by transfer quotas

MEGA may become the better choice if its current official plan supplies the transfer allowance and history behavior your workflow requires at a better overall value. That conclusion is conditional: obtain the live figures first, and compare recurring terms rather than an introductory promotion or an old search snapshot.

How should you verify the services before subscribing?

A short, repeatable check prevents most unpleasant surprises. Perform it for both providers, using the same data set and devices.

  1. Measure your data. Add the folders you will actually synchronize, share, or retain as history. Separate active files from archives so you can judge storage growth.
  2. List every endpoint. Write down desktop operating systems, phones, tablets, browser-only access, and any shared household computer. Compare that list with each plan’s supported platforms and device rule.
  3. Define your largest object. Note the size and type of your biggest video, design file, database export, or encrypted archive. Check the plan’s maximum-file rule instead of assuming that available storage equals upload capacity.
  4. Model a real share. Create a test document and identify whether you need a password, expiry, recipient verification, open or download limits, watermarking, or an upload request. Confirm each control is present on the plan you would pay for.
  5. Test recovery and authentication. Enable two-factor authentication where offered, store recovery information safely, and confirm how you would regain access after losing a phone. Do not keep the only recovery material inside the account it is meant to recover.
  6. Read the billing screen. Capture the recurring price, billing period, taxes, renewal behavior, cancellation path, and post-expiry data policy. Promotional or regional prices should not be treated as permanent costs.
  7. Run a small migration. Upload representative files, open them on another device, download a shared copy, and inspect version history. This exposes sync conflicts, file-name restrictions, and practical performance issues before a full move.
  8. Document the decision. Save screenshots or notes of the plan name, limits, and date checked. Revisit them after major product or subscription changes.

What are the common pitfalls?

Comparing unlike dates

A current Tresorit page and an older MEGA summary do not form a fair comparison. Label every figure with the date and region shown at checkout, and discard stale screenshots.

Treating capacity as a backup strategy

Cloud synchronization can replicate accidental deletions or corrupted files. Keep an independent copy for irreplaceable material and test that copy periodically; neither provider’s storage allowance, by itself, proves that you have a complete backup plan.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Assuming a link is private because it is long

Anyone who obtains a link may be able to attempt access unless you add the available protections. Use a separate password channel, a short expiry, and recipient verification when the document is sensitive, then revoke or replace the link when the project ends.

Ignoring version-history limits

History is useful only for the period and number of revisions your plan retains. Check the tier-specific limit before relying on it for long-running projects, legal records, or design iterations.

Overlooking device limits

Installing an app on every computer can consume an allowance even when only one device is used daily. Remove retired devices and confirm the plan’s policy before a travel or replacement cycle.

Reading compliance language too broadly

Provider-reported encryption or compliance statements may apply only to particular products, regions, contracts, or configurations. If you handle regulated information, ask the provider for the current scope and contractual terms rather than treating a marketing label as legal advice.

What is the clearest decision matrix?

Your priority Leading option from the verified evidence What to confirm before purchase
Published personal storage tiers Tresorit Price, renewal terms, and exact per-tier limits
50 GB to 4 TB encrypted personal capacity Tresorit has those listed tiers Whether your files, device count, and history needs fit the selected tier
Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS, and web in one plan family Tresorit lists all six access routes Exact device allowance and feature differences by tier
Passworded, expiring, measured, or verified links Tresorit documents these controls, subject to plan Which controls are enabled on your tier and how recipients authenticate
MEGA-specific transfer or history requirements Not determined from the directly verified material Current official storage, transfer, file-size, history, link, platform, and device terms
Regulated or contractual workloads Neither can be selected solely from a generic security label Current regional documentation, data-processing terms, retention, support, and audit scope

What should you choose?

If you must choose using information that can be verified now, Tresorit is the safer recommendation for a security-focused buyer: its 50 GB, 1 TB, and 4 TB personal tiers are stated, its cross-platform support is explicit, and its provider documentation explains local encryption, zero-knowledge architecture, two-factor authentication, and controlled encrypted sharing. Select the tier by measuring your data and checking its device, file, history, and link limits.

MEGA remains worth evaluating when its live plan page demonstrates a better match for your storage, transfer, or history requirements. Do that check immediately before subscribing and compare the complete recurring terms, not a dated summary. Until those figures and controls are confirmed directly, a categorical MEGA-versus-Tresorit winner would overstate what is established.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a zero-knowledge cloud provider see my file names?

The term usually focuses on file contents and encryption keys, not every piece of metadata needed to run an account. Ask each provider what metadata it retains and how search, previews, sharing, and abuse prevention work before assuming complete invisibility.

Is encrypted cloud storage enough for a disaster-recovery plan?

No. Synchronization can copy deletions or damaged files, and a single account is still a single failure point. Keep an independent, tested copy and document how you would restore it if you lost account access.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I use these services for regulated or confidential records?

Possibly, but suitability depends on jurisdiction, contract terms, retention settings, support processes, and the exact product configuration. Treat provider security and compliance statements as claims to verify for your workflow rather than as automatic legal approval.

What should I do before moving an existing archive?

Inventory file sizes, names, permissions, and required history first. Migrate a representative sample, verify downloads on a second device, test a shared link, and retain the original copy until the new archive has been checked.
