In Marvel’s Wolverine on PS5, open Photo Mode from the Pause menu, or assign it to a DualSense D-pad shortcut in Settings. From there, you can frame the scene in landscape or portrait, pose and reposition Wolverine, adjust lighting, and apply filters. If a filter appears to have no effect, enable Fullscreen Effects in Visual settings; Insomniac says it is investigating the issue, so the workaround may change.

How do I open Photo Mode in Marvel’s Wolverine?

Pause the game and choose Photo Mode. That is the default route described in PlayStation’s October 2026 guide. If you want quicker access during play, assign Photo Mode to a DualSense D-pad shortcut in Settings; the guide does not specify a particular D-pad direction as the universal default.

Photo Mode was announced as available during gameplay through a day-one update. If you cannot find it, first check that the game is updated, then look in the Pause menu and Settings. A D-pad shortcut is optional rather than a requirement: you can use the Pause menu instead.

Assign a D-pad shortcut

  1. Open the game’s Settings.
  2. Find the control assignment for Photo Mode and map it to an available DualSense D-pad button.
  3. Return to gameplay and use the assigned button when you want to enter the mode. If the shortcut is unavailable or not assigned, open Photo Mode from Pause.

The guide does not publish a complete button-by-button control map, so the exact assignment prompts shown in your game are the best reference for the selected D-pad direction. It also describes assigning Game Speed to another D-pad button, so check the available bindings if you want both shortcuts; the guide does not prescribe a universal arrangement for them.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

There is no special controller requirement identified for Photo Mode. The DualSense D-pad is simply an optional shortcut route; players can still use the Pause menu. The published instructions focus on PS5, and do not establish controls or availability for another platform.

How do I compose and save a better screenshot?

Start by setting the frame, then arrange Wolverine and the lighting, and finally inspect the image from more than one angle. The Photo Mode interface can be moved between the left and right sides of the screen, which helps when the controls obscure the part of the scene you are trying to judge.

Choose landscape, angled, or portrait framing

Use Tilt to change the framing from landscape through angled orientations to a 9:16 portrait composition. Landscape gives a wide view of a location; portrait can emphasize Wolverine or a tall environmental feature. These are compositional choices, not separate capture modes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If the Photo Mode tabs cover an important detail, toggle the interface to the other side of the screen. After adjusting the frame, pan around before leaving Photo Mode. PlayStation’s guide recommends checking for an alternate angle or a foreground detail that can strengthen the composition.

Think of the interface position and the camera framing as two separate adjustments: shifting the tabs clears your view while Tilt changes the image orientation. A landscape frame can make room for a broader environment, while the 9:16 portrait option gives a vertical image shape. Try a few positions before settling on a shot, especially when a nearby object can add depth or lead the eye toward the subject.

Pose and position Wolverine

Character Pose cycles through poses, including poses that may still be locked. Movement controls let you reposition Wolverine within a radius, while rotation and facial-expression options refine his placement and look. You can also select from suits and claws you have unlocked, or hide Wolverine when the environment itself is the subject.

Visibility controls can hide enemy non-player characters as well. That is useful when a background character distracts from the frame, but it also lets you decide whether the scene should feel populated or isolated. The guide describes these controls but does not provide a complete list of every pose, suit, claw, or expression; availability depends on what you have unlocked.

  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.

For a character-focused image, position Wolverine first, then adjust his rotation and expression to fit the camera angle. If the background is more important, hiding him or enemy NPCs can simplify the frame. These controls let you stage the composition without implying that every pose or cosmetic option is unlocked from the start.

Build a lighting setup

Photo Mode supports up to five independent lights. Each can be set to a Sphere or Spotlight type and adjusted for color, intensity, and distance. The guide also describes customizable natural light, so lighting is not limited to adding artificial sources. The lights can supplement natural lighting or create a deliberately stylized portrait.

  • For a portrait: begin with one or two lights, then adjust their color and intensity until Wolverine separates clearly from the background.
  • For an environmental look: preserve the scene’s natural light and add lights selectively to echo or emphasize the surroundings.
  • For a more stylized image: use additional lights to create distinct areas of color or emphasis, checking the result from different camera angles.

These are starting approaches rather than fixed recipes. The guide recommends beginning simply for portraits and using more lights when imitating environmental lighting; it does not prescribe specific color, intensity, or distance values. Since each source is independent, you can build a setup gradually: adjust one light, check the full frame, and add another only if the subject or environment needs more emphasis. Five is the maximum, not a target every image needs.

Capture a moving moment

For action photography, the guide says Game Speed can be assigned to another D-pad button and set to 30%, 50%, or 70%. Reducing game speed can make it easier to catch a particular action moment before entering Photo Mode. Game Speed is a separate configurable control, not a Photo Mode filter or a camera setting.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use one of those listed reductions when you want more time to react to an action beat, then enter Photo Mode to frame the moment. The guide does not describe these settings as shutter-speed controls or promise that every animation can be captured at any point; they are gameplay speed options intended to help with timing.

Which filters and image adjustments are available?

PlayStation’s guide confirms that filters are part of the multi-tab Photo Mode interface, but it does not provide a complete official filter catalog. A specialist secondary report lists several filter and image-adjustment controls; treat that list as reported features, not as an official exhaustive inventory.

  • Filter Type and Blend: choose a filter treatment and adjust how strongly it is blended into the image.
  • Frame Type: select a frame treatment for the finished composition.
  • Backgrounds: change the background treatment available in the interface.
  • Vignette Intensity and Size: adjust the strength and extent of the vignette effect.
  • Film Grain Strength: control the amount of grain.
  • Sharpening: adjust image sharpening.

The secondary report does not establish every available option, preset, or numeric range, so the labels and controls shown in your game should take precedence. Filter choices are most useful after you have settled the composition and lighting: otherwise a change to the frame can alter how the filter reads.

  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.

These adjustments cover different parts of the image: a filter and its blend affect the overall treatment, while vignette, grain, and sharpening are separate reported controls. Frame Type and Backgrounds are also listed by the secondary report, but PlayStation does not provide a complete official rundown of their options. If an effect looks too strong or too subtle, adjust its available control gradually and compare the result against the unadjusted composition.

Why aren’t my Photo Mode filters working?

Insomniac Support’s stated workaround is to enable Fullscreen Effects under Visual settings. The support page says the issue is being investigated, so this should be treated as a workaround rather than a confirmed permanent fix.

  1. Open the game’s Settings.
  2. Go to Visual settings.
  3. Enable Fullscreen Effects.
  4. Return to Photo Mode and check whether the filter now appears.

If the filter still does not appear to work, check whether the selected filter or blend is subtle, then try a more visibly different setting. The available support information does not establish that every filter issue has the same cause or that this setting resolves every case. The support note is an investigation update, not confirmation that the workaround is a permanent fix for every version.

Where can I take screenshots, and how do I revisit a scene?

PlayStation’s introductory guide uses the arcade early in “In the Shadows,” a casino scene, and lantern-lit compositions as examples. It also points to character moments and locations in Canada, Shinjuku, and Madripoor. These examples illustrate the range of scenes; they are not a complete index of every location where Photo Mode can be used.

The examples show that a screenshot location need not be a dedicated photo spot: the guide presents ordinary story scenes and environmental details as subjects. A brightly detailed arcade, a casino composition, and a lantern-lit scene offer different kinds of visual material. Explore the area and pan around before leaving Photo Mode, since another angle or foreground detail may make the setting more distinctive.

Return to chapters after finishing the story

  1. Load your completed save and go to Logan’s cabin.
  2. Use the bed to access chapter select.
  3. Choose a chapter to revisit its story locations and moments, then enter Photo Mode during gameplay.

Chapter select is the route described for replaying scenes after the credits. The guide does not list every chapter or provide a full location-by-location screenshot guide, so finding a particular composition may require exploring the selected chapter. Its named regions—Canada, Shinjuku, and Madripoor—are examples, not a guarantee that every named scene is available through a particular chapter or a complete list of replay destinations.

What should I try first for a portrait or location shot?

For a character portrait, switch to portrait framing if it suits the subject, move Wolverine within the available radius, and test one or two lights before adding more. For a location-focused frame, consider hiding Wolverine or enemy characters, preserve the environmental lighting where it helps, and pan around for a different angle or foreground detail.

  • Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft

These choices follow the mode’s documented controls rather than a guaranteed recipe: the result depends on the scene, unlocked character options, and how you set the lights. A useful order is to settle the camera and subject before fine-tuning light and filter adjustments, so each change has a clear purpose.

For a more environmental portrait, use natural light as your baseline and add only enough independent lighting to separate the subject from the scene. For a deliberately stylized portrait, build up from one or two lights and adjust color, intensity, and distance rather than beginning with all five. If a frame feels crowded, try hiding Wolverine or enemy NPCs; if it feels flat, inspect it from another angle and reconsider the lighting before changing filters.

What does the Photo Mode guide not establish?

PlayStation describes its guide as an introduction, not an exhaustive feature rundown. It confirms the main access routes and the composition, character, lighting, and slow-motion tools, but does not publish a complete filter catalog, all control bindings, or a comprehensive list of screenshot locations.

The feature information is for the PS5 game. PlayStation announced Photo Mode as available during gameplay with a day-one update; the guide does not establish whether later patches changed individual controls or options. Insomniac’s support note about filter behavior is likewise an issue report under investigation, not a promise that the workaround applies to every software version.

Gillen McAllister, Manager, Content Communications at Sony Interactive Entertainment, described the broader appeal of the feature in PlayStation’s guide: “Photo Modes are a rewarding way to get to grips with some essential elements of photography, while letting you more closely examine and appreciate a game’s art design and increasingly photorealistic visuals.” The guide’s advice reflects that emphasis on experimenting with framing, lighting, and the detail in each environment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a special controller to use Wolverine’s Photo Mode?

No special controller is identified as a requirement. The guide describes a DualSense D-pad shortcut as an optional way to open the mode; the Pause menu remains the default route.

Does chapter select include every screenshot location in the game?

The guide says chapter select lets you return to locations and moments across the story, but it does not provide an exhaustive list of locations. Its named examples should not be treated as the only places available.

Are all poses, suits, and claws available from the start?

The guide describes selection from unlocked poses, suits, and claws, so the available choices can depend on progression. It does not provide a complete unlock list or say when each option becomes available.

How many lights can I use in Photo Mode?

You can use up to five independent lights. Each can be set to Sphere or Spotlight and adjusted for color, intensity, and distance; the guide recommends starting with one or two for a portrait.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What Game Speed settings can help with action shots?

The guide lists 30%, 50%, and 70% options. Game Speed can be assigned to another D-pad button and is separate from the Photo Mode camera and filters.

Which specific locations does PlayStation show as examples?

Examples include the arcade early in “In the Shadows,” a casino, lantern-lit compositions, and story moments in Canada, Shinjuku, and Madripoor. This is not an exhaustive location list.

What should I do if Fullscreen Effects does not fix a filter?

Insomniac Support gives enabling Fullscreen Effects under Visual settings as a workaround and says the issue is being investigated. The note does not guarantee it fixes every case, so check the chosen filter and blend as well.

The Bottom Line

Open Photo Mode from Pause or set an optional DualSense D-pad shortcut, then shape the shot with Tilt, character controls, and up to five independent lights. For a filter that appears broken, enable Fullscreen Effects in Visual settings. After the credits, Logan’s cabin bed opens chapter select for revisiting story scenes.
