To change a skin in Marvel Rivals, open Heroes from the main menu, choose the hero, open Cosmetics, select Costumes, choose an owned costume, and select Equip. The exact confirmation control varies by platform and client version, so use the button prompt shown on your screen. A costume listed in the Store or with a lock icon is not owned and cannot be equipped. Color variants, called chromas, are handled through Customize on eligible costumes rather than by switching the base costume.
What is the fastest way to equip a skin in Marvel Rivals?
The complete route is hero-specific: the costume menu belongs to the hero whose appearance you want to change, not to a universal wardrobe.
- From the main menu, open Heroes.
- Select the hero whose appearance you want to edit.
- Open that hero’s Cosmetics section.

When Equip is missing, the usual causes are that the item is locked, the wrong hero is selected, or the screen is showing a preview rather than an owned item. Check the item status before looking for a different button.

The costume is locked
A Store preview lets you inspect an outfit without giving your account ownership. A lock icon, purchase prompt, event requirement, or other acquisition message means the costume must be obtained first. Open the item’s details and follow the requirement shown for that specific costume; there is no single unlock rule for every outfit.
Some costumes are sold in the in-game Store, while others are tied to quests, Twitch Drops, ranked rewards, or time-limited events. Do not assume that a locked costume always requires payment, and do not assume that a reward costume can be equipped before its condition is completed.
The wrong hero is selected
Costumes are managed inside an individual hero’s page. If you are looking at one hero’s cosmetics while expecting an outfit associated with another, leave the current page, return to Heroes, and select the intended character before checking Cosmetics → Costumes again.

Store inventory and event panels can display items that are not currently claimable. Read the item’s status and dates rather than treating its appearance in a menu as proof that it is in your collection. Reward eligibility can also depend on a quest state, a connected Twitch account and claim window, or a ranked tier.
The default look is not obvious
To return to the normal appearance, select the default costume if it appears as an owned, selectable option in that hero’s costume list, then use Equip. Layouts can differ between clients and item types, so do not rely on a particular tile position or assume every screen labels the default in exactly the same way.
How do I change a costume back to the default appearance?
Open the same hero-specific path and choose the default costume entry when it is presented as an owned option. The important distinction is ownership: a default or standard entry must be selectable before the client will offer the equip command.
- Open Heroes from the main menu.
- Select the hero currently wearing the alternate outfit.
- Enter Cosmetics, then Costumes.
- Highlight the default costume entry shown for that hero.
- Confirm with the on-screen control and check the hero portrait or model.
If no default entry is visible, move through the costume tiles and inspect each item’s status. The October 2026 client layout is not documented as identical for every hero, so the absence of a tile in one position is not proof that the normal look has been removed.
What is the difference between Costumes and Customize?
Costumes switches the hero’s base outfit. Customize changes an eligible costume’s color palette, or chroma, and does not replace the base costume with another one.

Changing the base costume
Use Cosmetics → Costumes and choose an owned outfit. The equip action applies the complete costume as listed. If the item is locked, customization controls do not turn it into an owned costume.
Applying a chroma
Some costumes expose a Customize control above the normal acquire or equip area. Select an eligible costume, open Customize, and choose one of the palettes the item provides. Not every costume supports recoloring, and a chroma is not an unrestricted color editor for every skin.
NetEase’s October 29, 2026 patch listing treats the Winter Soldier – Celestial Soldier costume bundle, its chroma, and its ultimate-ability visual effects as distinct offerings. That separation is a useful reminder to inspect the individual item description instead of assuming that buying or equipping a base costume automatically grants every related visual option.
How can I get new costumes without simply buying a Store item?
There are several acquisition routes, and each has its own eligibility and date limits. The Store is only one route.

A costume becomes equippable only after the required route has actually granted it to your account. Completing a quest in progress, watching a stream without claiming the drop, or reaching a rank before the reward is issued may leave the item locked temporarily.

The developer’s August 2026 Store announcement described more than two new costumes released weekly as historical wording for that announcement. It is not a measured October release rate and should not be treated as a promise about future inventory.
Does the process differ on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox?
The useful menu labels are the same across the supported releases: Heroes, the selected hero’s Cosmetics, and Costumes. Official links identify Windows, PlayStation, and Xbox Series X|S versions, and the PlayStation listing identifies PS5 and DualSense support.

The exact October 2026 controller button mapping is not established for every platform. On console, highlight the item and follow the confirmation prompt rendered by your client rather than applying a button instruction from a different platform or an older guide. On PC, click the displayed control with the mouse; keyboard bindings can vary if you have changed them.
A replacement controller is a hardware choice for a PS5 owner who needs one; it does not unlock a costume, change account ownership, or solve a missing Equip command. The game is listed as free to play on Steam with in-app purchases, but that platform description does not make every costume free or every Store item available at all times.
How do Store bundles, chromas, and ownership work?
Read a bundle as a collection of individually described digital items, not as a guarantee that every visual component behaves identically. A listing may separate the base costume, a chroma, and an ultimate-ability visual effect, each with its own description or status.

- Check dates. Time-limited offers and rewards can stop accepting claims even while an old tile remains visible in a menu.
- Check the account that earned the item. A Twitch Drop or event claim must be made on the account you use to play; watching or completing a condition on another account does not establish ownership here.
- Reopen the hero page. After a successful claim or purchase, leave and re-enter the hero’s cosmetics page so the collection state can refresh.
- Use the current prompt. If the item is owned but the command label is unfamiliar, follow the on-screen confirmation control instead of a fixed button from an older guide.
If the item remains locked after the stated condition is complete, save the displayed item name, event name, and status message before contacting official support. Those details identify whether the problem is an unmet requirement, a claim delay, or a client display issue.
Can downloaded skin mods be used as an ordinary equip method?
No. A downloaded model, texture, or memory-modifying file is not an official costume acquisition or equip route. NetEase’s October 15, 2026 notice warned about certain mods of this type and associated anti-cheat enforcement, so changing a costume should be done through the in-game hero and cosmetics menus.

How do I verify that the new look is active?
Use the hero’s portrait and model after the equip command is accepted. The May 2025 developer notes specifically say that portraits in Heroes reflect currently equipped costumes, so a changed portrait is a useful confirmation that the selection was applied rather than merely previewed.
For a chroma, verify both the base costume and the palette: selecting a palette while viewing a different costume may not produce the appearance you expect. For a bundle with ability visuals, inspect the ability-effect entry separately because equipping the costume alone may not select every listed component.
