The unresolved part is saving an unfinished attempt: as of October 30, 2026, neither the publisher nor the developer has confirmed that you can quit halfway through a run and resume at the same point later. Castle Doom is an upcoming run-based mode in the separate, premium The Siege of Castle Doom DLC, scheduled for November 10, 2026. It is not an already-live Arcade feature, and owning the base game has not been announced as automatic access to the DLC.
What exactly is Castle Doom in Marvel Cosmic Invasion?
Castle Doom is a new run-based mode in the paid The Siege of Castle Doom expansion. The announcements describe heroes moving through Doctor Doom’s fortress to stop the Cosmic Inductor, choosing routes and reacting to changing encounters rather than replaying a fixed campaign stage. “Roguelike mode” is a reasonable shorthand for that structure, but the official descriptions call it a run-based mode rather than assigning a formal genre label.
The DLC is announced for Steam, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Doctor Doom and the Invisible Woman are announced as playable additions. The mode is scheduled for November 10, 2026, so its launch behavior can still change before release.

Does Castle Doom support local and online co-op?

That is useful evidence that the game is designed for four-player co-op, but it is not a separately verified Castle Doom player cap for every platform. A run sends the team through Doctor Doom’s fortress while two gauges shape the attempt. Encounters build Reed Richards’ Stabilizer, and the Siege Gauge increases the danger. Dotemu says the attempt ends if the Siege Gauge fills before the showdown, so route and challenge choices are part of managing risk rather than simply accumulating upgrades.

Routes, encounters and challenges
Players choose paths through the fortress and fight Doom Bots. Encounters and challenges award Battery Cells, which are used alongside the mode’s perk choices. Tribute Games says the DLC contains more than five times as many encounters as the main game; that is a developer comparison, not an independently measured count or a promise of a particular number of hours.
Challenges can also impose debuffs when they are failed. Because the announcements do not define every challenge condition, the safest expectation is that a team must balance a potentially better reward against the risk of making the current attempt harder.

These choices make two attempts less predictable: a team may choose a recovery door after taking damage, pursue equipment for a stronger build, or accept an event’s risk in exchange for a possible benefit.

Perk branches and Battery Cells
Dotemu specifies 12 different perks covering defense, damage and tactical uses. Chiasson describes those as Offense, Defense and Tactical branches that are applied individually to heroes. The announcements do not say that all 12 perks appear in every run, nor do they state that a perk selected during one attempt automatically carries into the next.
What progress remains after a run?
Successful runs unlock permanent account-level content. Dotemu says that successful runs permanently unlock new equipment and events from Reed’s Lab, plus modifiers that can deepen the challenge and increase the potential rewards in later attempts. Those are lasting additions to the mode, unlike the temporary decisions and buffs that shape one particular run.

The announcements do not promise that every failed attempt grants the same rewards, so players should not assume that losing automatically advances the permanent unlock track.

Can you save an unfinished Castle Doom run and resume it later?
That has not been confirmed. The mode descriptions explain how runs end and what successful runs unlock, but they do not provide a checkpoint, suspend, quit-and-resume or mid-run save rule. It would be inaccurate to call the feature impossible, just as it would be inaccurate to promise that an unfinished attempt will be waiting when you return.

Steam advertises Steam Cloud for the game, and Nintendo advertises Save Data Cloud. Those services synchronize save data; neither announcement says that Castle Doom writes a checkpoint in the middle of an active run. Cloud backup therefore cannot be treated as proof of a suspend function.
What this means before launch
- Do not plan a long attempt around being able to close the game safely unless the final mode instructions confirm it.
- Do not assume that quitting is the same as failing; no publisher statement says that exiting deletes all permanent progress.
- Look for a mode-specific save or resume explanation in the launch notes and in-game menus around November 10.

Is Castle Doom included with the base game?
No inclusion has been announced. Castle Doom is part of the separately sold premium The Siege of Castle Doom DLC. The base game’s physical Standard and Deluxe editions are a different product announcement and should not be treated as bundles that automatically contain November’s expansion.
What the physical editions include
Dotemu announced physical Standard and Deluxe editions of the base game for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5. The Deluxe edition is described as including the physical game, a SteelBook, a poster, 15 art cards and stickers. Those contents are physical-edition extras; they are not evidence that Castle Doom is included.

Before buying, check the exact platform and edition listing. The DLC is announced for more platforms than those physical base-game editions, and no announcement says that owning a physical or digital copy of the base game automatically grants the expansion.

- Use door types to cover weaknesses. Equipment, Heal and Infinite doors answer different immediate needs; Events and Progression doors may be more valuable when the team can accept uncertainty.
- Coordinate challenge risk. Failed challenges can add debuffs, so agree on who is best suited to the objective before committing the group.
- Separate run gains from permanent gains. Battery Cells and temporary perks help the current attempt. Reed’s Lab unlocks and the palette reward are the lasting rewards explicitly described for successful or completed runs.
- Confirm the save behavior before starting a long session. Until a checkpoint rule is documented, assume only that permanent rewards follow the published successful-run conditions.
Bottom line: what can you rely on?
Castle Doom is designed for co-op runs, with local and online multiplayer support established by the game’s broader co-op features and multiplayer-specific comments from Tribute Games. It also has permanent progression: successful runs expand Reed’s Lab with equipment, events and modifiers, and completing a run can unlock a new hero color palette.
The one major unanswered question is an unfinished run.
