Marvel Cosmic Invasion’s roguelike-style mode is called Castle Doom, and it is a separate paid DLC—not a new name for Arcade. As of October 29, 2026, it is announced for November 10 and is not available yet. The base game already includes Campaign and Arcade: Campaign saves story progress, while Arcade turns the Annihilus adventure into a continuous run with limited lives and no saved run progress.
Is the roguelike mode already in Marvel Cosmic Invasion?
No. The mode players may describe as “roguelike” is Castle Doom, a new run-based mode in the paid The Siege of Castle Doom DLC. Dotemu announced it for November 10, 2026; on October 29, it had not launched. The announcement presents it as a new mode alongside the existing game, not as an update that turns Campaign or Arcade into a roguelike. Dotemu’s announcement and the Steam DLC listing both identify it as DLC requiring the base game.
“Roguelike” is a useful shorthand for Castle Doom’s repeatable attempts and run-by-run choices, but the publisher calls it a run-based mode. Its defining loop is to choose routes through Castle Doomstadt, gather resources and upgrades, and try to reach Doctor Doom before a danger meter ends the attempt. It is separate from the game’s two existing ways to play the Annihilus story.
What’s the difference between Campaign and Arcade?
Campaign is the story mode with continuing stage progress; Arcade is a single continuous route through that same Annihilus adventure, with limited lives and continues and no saved run progress. Both are in the released base game, but they reward different approaches: Campaign is the natural choice for steady progression, while Arcade makes each attempt a more constrained, classic beat-’em-up run.

The stage totals above are counts reported by GameSpot’s 2025 review, not publisher specifications. Nintendo Life reports that heroes do not level up during Arcade. That does not establish whether pre-existing hero levels apply or exactly when Arcade experience is credited, so it is too broad to say that Arcade heroes can never level up.
Is Castle Doom the same as Arcade mode?
No. Arcade is a route through the base game’s Annihilus story; Castle Doom is a distinct assault on Castle Doomstadt built around route selection, resources, and a run-ending Siege Gauge. Arcade’s limits center on lives and continues, while Castle Doom’s pressure comes from time and hits taken advancing the gauge.
In Castle Doom, defeating enemies earns Battery Cells that charge Reed Richards’s Stabilizer and contribute to progression. The player chooses among themed doors and paths that can lead to equipment, events, healing, ammunition or focus, and progression batteries. Perks are selected along offense, defense, and tactical branches and apply individually to heroes. These choices shape the current attempt rather than changing the underlying Campaign or Arcade stories.
The Siege Gauge is the run’s central risk. According to the publisher’s pre-release description, both elapsed time and hits taken advance it; if it fills, the attempt ends. Enemies also grow stronger as the gauge fills. This means exploring for useful items and events has a trade-off: detours may improve the team, but they consume time and expose heroes to more hits. The goal is to make enough progress and reach Doom before the gauge closes the run.

Dotemu and Tribute Games describe permanent unlocks between attempts through Reed’s Lab, including equipment, events, and modifiers. The Steam announcement says energy collected contributes toward unlocks whether a run ends in success or failure. That is persistent meta-progression; it does not mean temporary perks from one attempt carry over to the next.
These are announced mechanics, not a firsthand verdict on final gameplay. No independently published Castle Doom completion rate or run-length statistic was available before its scheduled release.
Which mode should you choose first?
For a first playthrough, Campaign is the clearest starting point: it lets you follow the story and keep stage progress. Arcade is a better fit if you specifically want a continuous run with limited lives and route choices. If what you want is repeatable, choice-driven runs in a separate setting, Castle Doom is the relevant mode—but it requires the DLC and was still unreleased on October 29, 2026.

Campaign is the practical option when you want to play in shorter sessions, return to stages, and work on stage challenges or hero development. Its stage-by-stage format makes it easier to focus on the story and roster without treating every session as one all-or-nothing attempt.

Choose Arcade if you want a classic continuous run
Arcade is not an alternative story campaign; it compresses the same adventure into a continuous run. Limited lives and continues raise the stakes, while route decisions and modifiers give repeat attempts some variation. The route can skip stages, so its reported 12-stage count is not directly comparable to Campaign’s 16-stage reviewer-reported count as if the modes offered different complete narratives.
Wait for Castle Doom if you want a new run-based structure
Castle Doom is the only one of the three built around branching castle routes, resources, perks, and unlocks across repeated attempts. That makes it the best match for someone using “roguelike mode” to mean a run-based mode with meaningful choices and between-run progression. Its actual balance, run length, and replay value cannot be established from pre-release descriptions alone.
Do I need the DLC for the roguelike mode?
Yes. Castle Doom is part of the premium The Siege of Castle Doom DLC, and the Steam listing says the add-on requires the base game. Buying or owning the base game gives access to Campaign and Arcade, not Castle Doom. Dotemu’s factsheet listed the DLC price as TBA; no launch price should be inferred from the price of a different add-on.

Before buying, check the storefront for your platform and region on or after the announced launch date. The date here is the publisher’s schedule as of October 29, 2026; it is not confirmation that the DLC has subsequently become available in every storefront. The announced physical Standard and Deluxe Editions concern the base game, and their announcements do not establish that Castle Doom is included on a disc or cartridge.

Dotemu says Castle Doom contains 12 different perks. Chiasson also described the mode as having more than five times as many encounters as the main game, excluding new events, traps, and hazards. That is a developer’s pre-release comparison, not an independently measured count or a promise that the mode has five times the runtime.
The publisher describes the base game as having 15 playable heroes and a Cosmic Swap system for switching between two selected heroes. Those figures refer to the base roster and system; Doctor Doom and Invisible Woman are separately announced for the second DLC. The available pre-release information does not establish Castle Doom’s average run duration, completion rate, final balance, or how the finished mode performs in practice.
