There is no legal New Super Mario Bros. co-op game for iPhone or Android. Nintendo’s official phone platformer, Super Mario Run, is a one-handed, single-player runner that requires a live connection and does not support couch co-op. For a legal substitute, choose BADLAND when two people want to share one screen, Unruly Heroes for a four-player 2D platform adventure, or Terraria when each player has a phone. Games such as Super Cat Tales 2, Oddmar, Rayman Adventures and classic Sonic the Hedgehog satisfy the Mario-style platforming itch alone. Store-bought homages are legal; downloading Nintendo ROMs or random “Mario” APKs is not a safe or clearly legal answer.
What is the closest legal Mario co-op game on a phone?
BADLAND is the closest same-device replacement for New Super Mario Bros. couch co-op. It has side-scrolling levels, one-touch controls, a real co-op campaign for up to four players and a versus mode on the same device. Its physics-based forest, traps and flying creatures feel different from Mario’s precise jump-on-enemy platforming, but it solves the practical problem most readers mean by “Mario co-op on iPhone without an emulator”: two people playing together on one screen without piracy.
Use a tablet for three or four players. A six-inch phone can technically display four control zones, but the strips are too small for comfortable play. With two players, a large phone or tablet and Bluetooth pads, BADLAND is workable. The Android listing reported more than 50 million installs, a 4.1 rating from 1,607,648 ratings and an August 2026 update. Pricing is a volatile snapshot: free with ads and roughly $0.99–$3.99 in-app purchases on Android; MiniReview listed the iOS version at $0.99.

Why isn’t there an official multiplayer Super Mario game for phones?
Nintendo’s only official Mario platformer on current iPhone, iPad and Android stores is Super Mario Run. It is designed for one-handed running: Mario moves automatically while you tap to jump, vault or spin. The trial leads to a full unlock near $9.99, according to an August 2026 pricing snapshot. Every mode needs live internet, and the game has no sourced local or online co-op mode and no controller support.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
That makes Super Mario Run a legitimate way to play Nintendo-designed levels on a phone, but the wrong answer for a shared-screen platforming session. Android 6.0 is currently required; an announced autumn device-support change is expected to move the floor to Android 7.1 or newer. Store requirements and the unlock price can change, so check the current listing before paying.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder is a console game, not a phone release. A website or video promising a mobile “Wonder” download is not an official port.
Is downloading a Mario ROM or emulator a legal alternative?
It is not the straightforward legal recommendation this guide can make. AndroidAyuda quotes the position plainly: “Nintendo is not in favor of emulation, mainly citing the problem of piracy.” The same source notes that “The legality of using ROMs depends on whether they are private copies of games you already own, but that’s a separate debate.” Laws differ by country, and owning a cartridge does not automatically grant permission to download a ROM from someone else.

Do not use ROM sites, “modded” APKs or files named New Super Mario Bros. Mobile. AndroidAyuda reports that “Google frequently removes the most blatant copies, and some titles have disappeared within days of appearing.” Malware, aggressive advertising and stolen Nintendo artwork are common warning signs. Install games from the official App Store or Google Play listing under the developer’s own intellectual property.
Which games support two players on one phone or tablet?
Same-device co-op is uncommon because Android and iOS do not automatically create a second player inside a game. Android’s multi-window feature only tiles two apps; it does not add a player. A title must draw multiple touch-control areas or accept extra controllers.
| Game | Shared-device format | How Mario-like? | Price/connection snapshot | Best hardware |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BADLAND | Up to four co-op or versus | Side-scrolling obstacle platformer with physics | Free with ads; Android IAP listed at $0.99–$3.99; offline modes | Tablet for four; controller support |
| Unruly Heroes | Up to four local players; online PvP also reported | Traditional 2D action-platforming | Premium mobile listing; verify current store availability | Tablet and gamepads |
| Kingdom Two Crowns | Two-player local co-op | Adventure and defense, not jump-platforming | $6.99, plus $2.99 cosmetic DLC; offline | Landscape tablet |
| Human: Fall Flat | Two-player split-screen; online up to four | Physics puzzle-platforming | Paid mobile game; connection depends on mode | Large screen or two controllers |
| BombSquad | Up to eight with pads, one phone, hotspot or Android TV | Party brawler rather than platformer | Free with ads and IAP | TV plus USB/Bluetooth pads |
BADLAND: the best one-screen answer
Frogmind’s Apple Design Award-winning BADLAND combines side-scrolling exploration with momentum, rotating obstacles, clones and environmental traps. The solo campaign has more than 100 levels. Its local versus mode has more than 30 levels, while co-op adapts the campaign for up to four players. A built-in level editor extends the content.
AndroidHire’s August 2026 listing showed controller support and an Android TV build, alongside the 50-million-plus install figure. The practical limitation is input density: four players on a phone means four tiny touch lanes. Two players on a phone or four on a tablet is the sensible arrangement. The sequel, BADLAND 2, is also listed for iOS and Android, but confirm its current multiplayer options separately.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Unruly Heroes: the closest four-player traditional platformer
Unruly Heroes is the best fit when the group wants recognisable 2D level traversal rather than a physics toy. Inspired by Journey to the West, it follows four heroes—Kihong, Sanzang, Wukong and Sandmonk—each with different abilities. How-To Geek counted 29 Donkey Kong Country-style levels; TechPP described puzzles, parkour, loot and bosses. Reports list single-player and multiplayer for up to four, with local and online competitive play.
How-To Geek reported an OpenCritic Top Critic Average of 78/100 and a 77% Critics Recommendation. Those mobile storefront details were last confirmed in August 2025, not re-crawled for October 2026, so search the App Store or Play Store before promising a download to friends. It is more combat-heavy and less forgiving than a typical Mario campaign.
Kingdom Two Crowns: slower co-op for two thumbs
Kingdom Two Crowns is a premium, landscape, offline co-op game for two people on one device. You recruit villagers, build defenses, manage resources and explore a pixel-art kingdom through changing weather. MiniReview listed $6.99 on both Android and iOS, with $2.99 cosmetic DLC. It is a strong shared-tablet choice when the desired session is cooperative planning, not rapid jumping.
Human: Fall Flat: actual split-screen on mobile
Human: Fall Flat is one of the rare phone games that explicitly provides a two-player split-screen mode. Its wobbly characters grab, climb and push through physics puzzles; online multiplayer supports up to four. The genre is closer to a physics playground than to Mario, and an OpenCritic average of 68/100 (40% Critics Recommendation) reflects its uneven puzzle-focused reception. Choose it when “same phone” matters more than 2D platforming.
BombSquad: use it with a TV and controllers
BombSquad is a ragdoll party brawler with capture-the-flag, bomb hockey and elimination modes. AndroidHire’s 2026 listing reported up to eight players, more than 50 million installs and a 4.5 rating from 1,068,695 ratings. It works on one Android device, across a local hotspot or on Android TV with real gamepads. USB gamepads, Wiimotes, PS3 controllers and Xbox 360 controllers are supported according to How-To Geek. Two people sharing one touchscreen is cramped, so treat it as a living-room option rather than a Mario replacement. An iPhone can act as a remote controller for a Mac or TV host through BombSquad Remote; BombSquad itself is not an iPhone game.
What are the best two-phone or local-Wi-Fi co-op games?
If each person has a phone, local-network and online games provide more comfortable controls than a shared screen. Check that everyone has the same version, and remember that “local” can mean a direct hotspot without internet or a server connection, depending on the title.
Terraria: the strongest paid 2D co-op choice
Terraria is the most convincing two-phone recommendation for players who want a 2D side view, exploration and boss fights. One mobile device hosts a world and up to four players can join on the same local network; 505 Games support instructions describe putting the host into hotspot mode for a true no-internet session. Each phone needs its own purchase. AndroidHire listed $4.99 per device, no ads and no in-app purchases, so four players cost about $20 before taxes.

This is a sandbox, not a 32-level Mario campaign. You mine, build, craft, fight more than 400 enemy types and discover more than 5,000 items, with more than 20 NPCs. Mobile supports gamepads and custom controls. A mobile host can accept mobile clients, but a phone cannot join a PC host in the configuration described by the cited support information. The Android listing reported more than five million installs and a 4.5 rating from 407,467 ratings. How-To Geek cited more than 64 million copies sold across platforms.
Dan the Man: free online 2D action
Dan the Man combines classic platforming with beat-em-up combat. Its campaign works offline, while online co-op uses quick match; it is not drop-in couch co-op on one touchscreen. GetAppSolution reported 140 million downloads and a 4.7 average, while AndroidAyuda described dozens of hours, character creation and many levels. The free model includes ads, with an upgrade available; there is no energy meter in the cited listing.
Soul Knight: four-player LAN dungeon runs
Soul Knight is a top-down shooter-roguelike rather than a platformer, but its offline LAN mode is useful for a group with separate phones. Up to four players can join a local game. AndroidHire’s August 2026 listing showed 100 million-plus installs, a 4.6 rating from 1,764,669 ratings, ads and in-app purchases from $0.99 to $25.99. There are more than 20 heroes and 400-plus weapons. Keep versions aligned; mismatched updates can prevent a LAN lobby from appearing. Its randomised rooms and shooting make it a poor substitute for Mario’s precision jumps, but an excellent short co-op session.
Blackmoor 2: co-op dungeon brawling
Blackmoor 2 is a free platform-brawler with ads and in-app purchases. The cited listing describes an offline campaign, while dungeons and multiplayer require a connection. Four Fats continues to ship content, including the “First Age” update. Select it for side-scrolling combat and dungeon teamwork, not for a faithful Mario-style campaign.
Brawlhalla: when “Mario co-op” really means platform fighting
Brawlhalla uses platform-arena rules: players jump, attack, recover from the edge and knock one another out. It is not a cooperative Mario level, but it is the honest answer for readers who want to bounce around platforms with friends. Pocket Gamer reported Android, iOS and Switch versions, more than 50 characters, matches for up to eight and more than 80 million downloads cited by the developers. The game is free, and the developers say purchases are cosmetic rather than advantages.

TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge: six-player beat-em-up
The Netflix version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge supports up to six players across platforms and Bluetooth controllers. It offers a dozen side-scrolling stages and playable turtles, Splinter and April. A Netflix subscription is required. This is arcade beat-em-up combat—clear groups of enemies while moving right—not Mario’s jumping and collectible structure.

DUAL!: two phones become one arena
DUAL! links two phones side by side over local Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Its Duel, Defend and Deflect modes let players shoot across the gap between screens. Madfox’s September 2026 store check described a free trial with a one-time unlock, with only one of the two players needing the unlock for co-op modes. It is a useful party extra, not a platformer.
Which single-player games feel most like Mario?
These games do not replace co-op. They are legal, polished alternatives for solo play when the other person is unavailable.
| Game | Why it fits | Monetisation and offline notes |
|---|---|---|
| Super Cat Tales 2 | More than 100 levels, multiple cats with different abilities, secrets and alternate routes | Free with optional IAP; traditional touch platforming |
| Oddmar | 24 hand-drawn, physics-based Viking levels | Free opening section, one unlock, no ads, offline, controller support |
| Rayman Adventures | Fast runner-platforming, high-quality animation and collectibles | Free-to-play with microtransactions; playable without spending with patience |
| Sonic the Hedgehog | Official 16-bit-style loops, rings and momentum | Legal SEGA release; controller makes it close to the original feel |
| Super Bino Go | Eight islands, 145 levels, bosses and power-ups | Free; cited coverage says required IAP is not needed |
| Lep’s World | Three games with more than 130 levels, secrets and classic power-up grammar | Free original-IP homage |
Super Cat Tales 2: the clearest Mario homage
Super Cat Tales 2 is an original-IP platformer from Neutronized, not a Nintendo product. It has more than 100 levels and a 4.7 Google Play rating in the cited coverage. Different cats glide, jump or illuminate dark areas, creating the ability-based exploration associated with Mario games. AndroidAyuda describes bells rather than purple coins and optional in-app purchases that are not essential. The controls are tap-based but still traditional platforming rather than an endless auto-runner.
Oddmar: the best one-game solo recommendation
Oddmar is the strongest single-player replacement when you value level design over a free price tag. The first section is a demo; one purchase unlocks 24 hand-drawn, physics-based Viking levels. The cited listing reports no ads, offline play and controller support, with a 4.6 Google Play rating. It has deliberate jumps, puzzles and cinematic presentation rather than automatic running.
Rayman Adventures: polished but monetised
Ubisoft’s Rayman Adventures is an official original-IP rival with fluid animation and runner-platforming. AndroidGuias says its visuals and animation can surpass Super Mario Run, while AndroidAyuda identifies microtransactions as the principal drawback. You can play without spending if you accept slower progression. Its collectible-focused design rewards completionists, but it is not a multiplayer replacement.
Classic Sonic, Super Bino Go and Lep’s World
The official mobile Sonic the Hedgehog releases preserve Mega Drive-era loops, rings and momentum; a controller makes the experience close to the 16-bit versions. Sonic Dash 2 is the endless-runner cousin, not a level-by-level co-op game.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Super Bino Go uses an original hero while deliberately echoing NES and SNES platforming. TodoAndroid lists eight themed islands, 145 levels, seven bosses, a virtual D-pad and growth, fire and shield power-ups. Lep’s World replaces Mario with a goblin or elf and spans more than 130 levels across three games. Both are legally published original-IP games on official stores, but neither is Nintendo software. Google may remove more blatant 1:1 clones, so avoid lookalikes with copied names, artwork or suspicious permissions.

What are the best premium platformers if I want console-quality controls?
For solo play, a controller-supported premium port often feels closer to a console than a free tap-to-jump game. Availability, subscriptions and prices vary by country and device.
- Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown: a large action-platformer with 60 FPS reported on newer devices, remappable controls, auto-potion, auto-parry and slow-time options. Some mobile versions arrive through Netflix Games or Apple Arcade; an introductory section may be free before an unlock. Offline play is listed.
- Dead Cells: a roguelike “Roguevania” with permadeath, more than 90 weapons and permanent upgrades. GetAppSolution’s August 2026 snapshot put it around $8.49, with no ads, controller support and Original and Auto-Hit modes.
- Leo’s Fortune: 20 main stages across five acts, four bonus levels and three-star objectives built around a character who can inflate and float.
- Dandara: Trials of Fear: a gravity-surface Metroidvania, listed near $3.99, with no ads, offline play and Bluetooth-controller support.
- Downwell: a compact vertical shooter-platformer, listed near $2.99 in the cited replacement guide; no ads.
- Little Nightmares: a darker stealth-puzzle platformer in which a controller helps during chase sequences.
- Grimvalor, Levelhead, LIMBO, Super Dangerous Dungeons, Ordia, Teslagrad, Dadish 3D, Oddworld: New ’n’ Tasty and Fancy Pants Adventures: additional legal options covering precision combat, level creation, one-finger controls, physics and atmospheric puzzle-platforming.
GetAppSolution’s August 2026 snapshot noted that Spicy Piggy, Super Phantom Cat 2 and Star Knight had lost Play listings. Store availability changes, so do not assume an older recommendation is still downloadable.
Do Bluetooth controllers make these games feel more like Mario?
Yes, especially for precision ports and games with virtual sticks. Gaming.net’s 2026 platformer guide says a Bluetooth controller feels more natural for fast titles such as Dead Cells and Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. GetAppSolution documents controller support for Oddmar, Dandara and Evoland 2; Dead Cells is described as being at its best with one. Super Mario Run does not support a controller, so buying a pad will not turn it into couch co-op.
BADLAND accepts controllers and has an Android TV build. For TV split-screen or party games, plan on two to four Bluetooth or USB gamepads. BombSquad’s broad controller support is why it works better on a television than on one phone. Android 17 also adds a system virtual controller and device-wide remapping, while its foldable gaming mode puts a virtual gamepad below a game on the same display; that mode is for one player, not two.
How should I choose the right legal alternative?
- One device, two players: start with BADLAND. Pick Human: Fall Flat for true split-screen puzzles or Kingdom Two Crowns for slower strategy.
- One tablet, three or four players: use BADLAND or Unruly Heroes. Add controllers if available; four touch lanes on a phone are not comfortable.
- Two phones, no internet: buy Terraria on every device and use one phone’s hotspot. Soul Knight is the free LAN alternative, subject to version matching.
- Online 2D action: choose Dan the Man for platform-brawler combat, or Brawlhalla if platform fighting is what you really mean.
- Solo and offline: choose Oddmar for a premium, hand-drawn campaign; Super Cat Tales 2 for a free Mario-style homage; or a classic Sonic release for momentum-based levels.
- Console feel: pair a Bluetooth gamepad with Dead Cells, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, Terraria, BADLAND or Dandara.
What should I check before installing?
- Confirm whether “multiplayer” means same-screen, local hotspot, online matchmaking or versus only.
- Read the current store listing for Android version, controller support, subscription requirements and regional availability.
- For local games, update every phone to the same build and disable VPNs or guest-network isolation if devices cannot discover one another.
- Budget per-device purchases: Terraria’s cited $4.99 price applies to each phone, not the whole group.
- Check storage and battery use for large 3D ports; a hotspot host can run hotter and drain faster.
- Skip APK-mod sites, “free full version” downloads and listings using Nintendo’s name or artwork without an official publisher.
Bottom line: which game should you install?
Install BADLAND for the closest legal same-screen co-op experience, preferably on a tablet. Choose Unruly Heroes when you want a four-player 2D adventure with more conventional platforming. Choose Terraria when everyone has a phone and you can pay per device for a deep, offline-capable 2D sandbox. For solo play, Oddmar is the most polished one-purchase substitute, while Super Cat Tales 2, Sonic, Super Bino Go and Lep’s World provide legal original-IP homages. Super Mario Run remains the official Nintendo option, but its always-online, single-player design means it is not the Mario co-op game many phone players are looking for.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can two people play Super Mario Run on the same phone?
No supported same-device or online co-op mode is documented for Super Mario Run. Its races and challenges are single-player, and the game requires a live connection even after additional data is downloaded.
What is the best offline multiplayer game for two Android phones?
Terraria is the strongest 2D option: one phone hosts a local world through hotspot mode and the other joins without internet access. Each player needs the game, and mobile clients cannot use the PC-host setup described in the cited support information.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Are games such as Lep’s World and Super Bino Go illegal Mario copies?
They are original-IP games legally distributed through official stores, although their level structure and power-ups intentionally resemble classic platformers. They are not Nintendo products, and random APKs using Mario’s name or artwork should be avoided.
Do I need a controller for BADLAND or Unruly Heroes?
No. Both can be played with touch controls, but controllers improve precision and make a tablet or TV setup easier. Four-player touch input is especially cramped on a phone, so use a larger display or separate pads.
Can iPhone and Android players join the same mobile Terraria world?
The cited material confirms mobile multiplayer and local hosting, but cross-platform compatibility can depend on the current versions and network setup. Check the latest App Store and Google Play support notes before buying for a mixed-device group.
