Managed Hermes creates one application backup each day and keeps the latest seven days. Open Hermes in the control panel, choose Manage beside the application, and select Backups. From Restore and download, you can request a local copy or restore a dated version; Restore history records every attempt. Download a copy before restoring: restoration replaces the current application files, restarts the application, and cannot be undone.
The first backup is not available immediately. The service must be active for at least 24 hours, and the first automated daily cycle must finish.
What does Managed Hermes back up, and how long is it kept?
The service automatically saves the application once per day. Each saved point represents the application state at that backup, and the service retains backups for seven days.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Schedule: automatic, daily backups.
- Retention: seven days.
- Recovery point: restoring returns the application to the exact state stored in the selected backup.
- Availability: the first backup appears only after the service has been active for at least 24 hours and the first daily backup has completed.
This is a rolling window rather than a permanent archive. A downloaded copy is therefore the way to keep a particular state beyond the seven-day service retention period.

Where do I find the Managed Hermes Backups page?
Backups are managed from the application-specific Hermes screen, not from a general file browser.
- Sign in to the control panel.
- Select Hermes in the left sidebar.
- Click Manage beside the application.
- Open Backups.
The Backups page has two tabs: Restore and download for selecting a dated backup, downloading it, or restoring it, and Restore history for reviewing previous operations.
How do I download a Managed Hermes backup?
Downloading creates a local copy without changing the running application. It is the safer first move when you may need to preserve the current state before testing a rollback.
- Open Hermes > Manage > Backups.
- Stay on Restore and download.
- Choose the dated backup you want to preserve.
- Click Download backup.
- Wait while the archive is prepared in the background, then use the temporary download link.
Preparation can take up to an hour for larger applications. The link expires; if it is no longer valid, return to the same backup and request the download again to generate a new link.
After downloading, store the archive where you can find it independently of the control panel. A portable external hard drive is one optional place to keep the file; it is storage for your downloaded archive, not an additional Managed Hermes backup feature. Consider keeping a second copy on separate hardware if the application state is important.

How do I restore an earlier application state?
Restoration changes the live application. Select the dated point carefully, make a download first when the current setup might matter, and plan for a short restart.
- Open Hermes > Manage > Backups and select Restore and download.
- Review the available dates, which are shown with the newest backup first.
- Select the backup to use and click Restore application.
- Read the warning that current files will be replaced, then acknowledge it.
- Click Restore to start the operation.
- Allow the application to restart and wait for completion. A restore usually takes about five minutes.
- Open Restore history and verify the result.
Only one restore can run at a time. A second operator should wait until the first operation is finished rather than submitting another request.
What is the difference between downloading and restoring?
Both actions begin with a dated backup, but they have opposite effects: downloading preserves a copy, while restoring replaces the current application files.
| Action | Purpose | Effect on the running application | Timing | Reversibility and risk |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Download backup | Keep an archive locally for later reference, recovery, or storage beyond the seven-day window. | Does not alter the application. | Preparation runs in the background and may take up to an hour for larger applications; the link is temporary. | Non-destructive in Managed Hermes. You control the downloaded copy and its storage. |
| Restore application | Return the live application to the exact state saved on the selected date. | Replaces all current application files and restarts the application. | Usually about five minutes; only one restore may run at a time. | Irreversible in Managed Hermes. Download the current state first if you may need it. |
How should I choose a backup date?
Start with the newest point and move backward only as far as the problem requires. The list is limited to the seven-day retention window, so a date that is not shown is no longer available through the service.
When the newest point is appropriate
Use the newest backup when the issue appeared recently and you want to discard only the most recent changes. Confirm the date displayed before selecting Restore application.

When an older point is safer
If the newest backup may already contain the fault, compare the visible dates and select the last point you trust. Because restoration replaces current files, download the current state before rolling back if there is any chance that recent work must be recovered.
When no suitable date remains
Once a point falls outside the seven-day window, it is not available from Managed Hermes. A previously downloaded archive may still provide a copy, depending on where you stored it.
What does Restore history show?
Restore history is the audit view for restore activity. It records the requested timestamp, the backup date selected, and the operation status.
- In progress: the restore request is still running.
- Completed: the operation finished successfully.
- Failed: the operation did not complete and the history entry identifies it as unsuccessful.
Use this tab after submitting a restore rather than assuming that a confirmation click means the files have already changed. If the status remains In progress, wait for that operation to finish before attempting another restore.
What should I do before restoring?
A short pre-restore check prevents the most common irreversible mistake: losing the current state that you intended to keep.

- Confirm that the selected date is the one you want; the list is ordered newest first.
- Request and save a download of the current backup or another relevant point before restoring.
- Tell other operators not to start a second restore while the first is running.
- Expect the application to restart and allow roughly five minutes for the restore to finish.
- Plan to verify the result in Restore history and then check the application itself.
The warning is substantive: restoring replaces all current application files and cannot be undone within Managed Hermes. A local download is the recovery path if you later need to preserve or inspect what was replaced.
What happens if I delete the application?
Deleting the application is permanent and removes it; it is not a substitute for a restore. Download a backup first if you might need the application files later.
Deleting the application also does not cancel the Managed Hermes subscription. Treat application deletion and subscription cancellation as separate actions.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why can’t I see a backup yet?
The first backup requires two conditions: the Managed Hermes service must have been active for at least 24 hours, and the first automated daily backup must have completed. If activation was recent, wait for that cycle before expecting a dated entry.
After the first point appears, the service continues generating one backup per day. The visible list contains only points still inside the seven-day retention window.

How do I handle a failed or apparently stalled restore?
Check Restore history for the operation’s status before taking another action. A status of In progress means the single restore slot is occupied; wait for it to finish. A Failed entry means that request did not complete, so select a suitable retained backup and submit a new request only after the earlier operation is no longer running.
Keep the requested timestamp and selected backup date from the history entry when documenting the incident. Those details distinguish a failed restore from a successful restore of an unintended date.
How can I use downloads as a longer-term backup plan?
Managed Hermes supplies seven days of rolling recovery points. To retain a state longer, request a download while that point is still listed, then maintain the archive yourself.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

- Request Download backup and wait for preparation.
- Save the archive with a clear date-based filename on your device.
- Copy it to separate storage, such as a portable external hard drive, if the data warrants an additional safeguard.
- Record which application and backup date the file represents so it can be identified later.
A downloaded archive is not automatically refreshed by the service. Each additional long-term point requires a new download request.
What are the key safety rules?
- Do not treat a restore as a preview; it changes the live application.
- Download before restoring whenever the current files may be valuable.
- Remember that restore operations cannot be undone.
- Use Restore history to verify completion or diagnose failure.
- Keep important downloaded archives outside the seven-day rolling window.
- Download before deleting an application, because deletion is permanent.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a downloaded archive be used as an automatic backup after I save it?
No. A download is a static local copy and is not updated by Managed Hermes. To capture a newer state, request another download while the desired dated backup is still available.
How can I keep a recovery point longer than seven days?
Request a download before the point leaves the retention window, then store the archive on your device or separate media. Labeling the file with its application and backup date makes older copies easier to identify.
What should I record when a restore fails?
Open Restore history and note the requested timestamp, selected backup date, and Failed status. These details provide a precise record of which operation did not complete before you try another retained point.

Does removing an application end the Managed Hermes subscription?
No. Application deletion is permanent, but it does not cancel the subscription. Preserve any needed files first and handle subscription management separately.
