The Makita DUR193SF is an 18V LXT cordless nylon-line trimmer kit with a telescoping shaft and an adjustable head that can be turned for edging. Its published headline figures are a 260 mm cutting width and up to 45 minutes of operation with a 3.0Ah BL1830B battery—but Makita specifies that runtime at no load, not while cutting. The kit’s battery and charger can vary by market, so the exact listing matters as much as the model number.

What is the Makita DUR193SF?

The DUR193SF is a cordless grass trimmer in Makita’s 18V LXT battery platform. It cuts with nylon line rather than a blade, and Makita describes the design as having a loop handle, telescoping shaft and pivoting head. The Singapore listing specifies a 260 mm (10-1/4 in) cutting width, five head pivot positions and a head that rotates 180 degrees for edging.

Those features make the DUR193SF a plausible fit for trimming grass around lawn edges, garden beds and obstacles where a mower cannot reach. They do not establish how quickly it cuts, how it performs in dense growth, or how much ground it can cover on a charge: the product information is manufacturer specification, not independent cutting or runtime testing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

This review is therefore a buying assessment of the published specifications and regional kit examples, not a hands-on performance verdict. The model name to check is DUR193SF; the DUR193Z is a distinct bare-tool variant in Makita Singapore’s listing.

What are the DUR193SF’s published specifications?

Makita’s 2022 brochure gives the following figures. They are manufacturer specifications, not results from an independent test.

Specification Published value What it tells you
Cutting width 260 mm (10-1/4 in) The width of the cutting path stated for the nylon head.
No-load speed 7,800 rpm The rotational speed without a cutting load; it is not a measure of cutting speed through grass.
Maximum stated runtime Up to 45 minutes with a BL1830B battery on a full charge, at no load A no-load maximum, not a typical mowing or trimming session estimate.
Sound pressure 73.2 dB(A) The brochure’s stated sound-pressure figure.
Sound power 83.1 dB(A) A separate sound-emission measure; it should not be treated as the same quantity as sound pressure.
Vibration 2.5 / 2.5 m/s² or less at the left and right grips The brochure reports a value for each grip.
Net weight 2.3–2.6 kg (5.1–5.7 lb), depending on configuration The brochure gives a range rather than one universal weight. It does not establish the weight of every regional kit with its particular battery fitted.

The brochure is dated 2022. Makita Latin America also warns that specifications, accessories and standard equipment may change without prior notice, and that photographs may not match every configuration. Check the current product information for your market before relying on a figure or included item.

What do the cutting width and speed mean in practice?

A 260 mm cutting width means the nylon head is specified to clear a path about 26 cm wide when the line is at its intended operating position. It is useful for estimating how many passes a narrow strip of grass may require, but it is not the same as the width of a mower deck or a guarantee that every pass will produce an even finish. The actual path depends on how the operator holds the head, the height of the grass and the condition of the line.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The 7,800 rpm figure is explicitly a no-load speed. It describes rotational speed with no cutting resistance and should not be read as a measured grass-cutting rate. When line contacts vegetation, the motor is under load and operating conditions change. Makita does not publish a cutting-speed test, area-per-minute figure or independent comparison with another trimmer in the cited materials.

That distinction matters when comparing this tool with larger brush cutters. The DUR193SF is documented as a nylon-line grass trimmer with a 260 mm head, not as a blade-equipped brush cutter. If your work routinely involves woody stems or heavy scrub, the model’s published specification does not establish that it is intended for that use.

How long does the DUR193SF run on a battery?

Makita’s stated figure is up to 45 minutes on a full charge with a BL1830B 3.0Ah battery under no-load conditions. It is not a published estimate for cutting grass, and the product information does not establish a typical working runtime or the area trimmed per charge.

Cutting puts a load on the motor, so a no-load figure should not be used to plan a full yard’s work. Grass density, how continuously the tool is cutting, line condition and the battery’s charge and condition can affect a real session; Makita’s cited figure does not quantify those effects. If the job’s size makes runtime important, treat 45 minutes as a ceiling under the stated test condition, not a promise of cutting time.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The battery capacity in the box also changes the context. A 3.0Ah BL1830B is the battery named in the 45-minute statement, while Makita Canada’s example kit lists a 4.0Ah BL1840B. The manufacturer does not provide a corresponding guaranteed cutting-runtime figure for that larger battery in the cited material. Capacity alone therefore cannot be converted into a precise number of trimming minutes.

The brochure lists charging times for specific battery-and-charger combinations. For a BL1830B, it gives 22 minutes with a DC18RC charger and 60 minutes with a DC18SD. Those are listed charger times, not a reason to assume that every DUR193SF package includes the faster charger; the documented regional examples below include DC18SD. If you already own an LXT fast charger, compare its model with the charger in the kit rather than assuming the two charging times are interchangeable.

What comes in the DUR193SF kit?

“SF” identifies a kit in the cited regional listings, but it does not guarantee identical contents worldwide. Makita’s Latin America and Singapore examples list a DC18SD charger and one 3.0Ah BL1830B battery. Makita Canada’s kit page instead describes a 4.0Ah BL1840B battery. Confirm the exact battery, charger, line and other supplied items with the seller for the specific listing you intend to buy.

Regional listing example Battery listed Charger listed Important qualification
Makita Latin America One BL1830B, 3.0Ah DC18SD Makita says standard equipment, specifications and photographs may vary.
Makita Singapore One BL1830B, 3.0Ah DC18SD Package contents are specific to this regional listing.
Makita Canada BL1840B, 4.0Ah Not stated in the cited kit description Do not assume the charger or other contents match the 3.0Ah examples.

Makita Singapore identifies the DUR193Z as a bare-tool model, so it should not be treated as interchangeable with a complete SF kit when comparing listings. A bare tool can make more sense for an owner who already has compatible batteries and a charger, but compare the actual local prices and included equipment rather than assuming one version is the better value.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Regional naming can also create an easy purchasing mistake. A retailer may copy a photograph from another country, show a battery that is not in the local box, or describe the tool simply as “DUR193” without the final suffix. The safest check is a written contents list showing the exact battery model, amp-hour rating and charger model. If those details are absent, ask the seller before paying.

What is the DUR193SF like to handle?

The published design features are a loop handle, telescoping shaft and pivoting head. A telescoping shaft can help different users set a workable reach, while a loop handle gives a second hand position for guiding the head. Makita does not provide a universal extended or collapsed length in the cited specifications, so there is no defensible claim about the exact adjustment range.

Makita gives a net-weight range of 2.3–2.6 kg (5.1–5.7 lb), depending on configuration. That range is important because the ready-to-use weight can vary with the battery and regional equipment. A listing that quotes only the bare tool or brochure range may not tell you what you will actually hold during trimming. Compare like with like: tool, supplied battery and any fitted accessories.

The brochure reports vibration of 2.5 / 2.5 m/s² or less at the left and right grips. The separate values indicate the manufacturer’s stated measurement for each grip; they are not a promise that every user will perceive identical vibration. Gloves, posture, line contact and the type of vegetation can all affect comfort, but the cited figure should be treated as a specification rather than an ergonomic test.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Noise is reported as 73.2 dB(A) sound pressure and 83.1 dB(A) sound power. These are different measurement quantities and should not be averaged or compared as though they were one noise rating. They also do not establish how loud the tool will seem at a particular distance in a garden. Users should follow local rules and normal hearing-protection guidance for powered outdoor equipment.

Can the DUR193SF be used as an edger?

Makita Singapore says the head rotates 180 degrees for edging and can pivot into five positions. That is the clearest documented flexibility feature: it lets the user reorient the cutting head for edge work or adjust its angle for trimming positions.

The five-position description refers to head adjustment; it does not mean the trimmer has a separate wheeled edging attachment or that the listing guarantees a particular edge finish. A rotating head can make it easier to present the nylon line at a lawn boundary, but the result still depends on operator control and the edge itself.

If edging is a major reason for buying, check the current manual or demonstration for the precise head-change procedure and confirm that the listing is for the DUR193SF rather than another model. Also check whether the regional box includes the shoulder strap or harness mentioned by some Makita listings, because accessory contents are not uniform.

What line does the Makita DUR193 use?

The DUR193 brochure specifies 1.65 mm four-leaf nylon cord. It lists replacement lengths of 15 m, 30 m and 45 m. Before ordering replacement line, compare the diameter and format against the manual and the product description in your market; a similar-looking spool or line is not proof of fit.

The four-leaf description is part of the line specification, not merely a color or packaging reference. Ordering by diameter alone could therefore be risky if the replacement product uses a different profile or feed format. Keep the original packaging or photograph the line specification so you can match future purchases accurately.

Some regional listings also identify nylon cord and a shoulder harness or strap as standard equipment. Since Makita says standard equipment may vary, check the box contents rather than assuming every SF kit includes the same accessories. Replacement line is a continuing ownership cost, so include the price and local availability of 1.65 mm compatible cord when comparing offers.

How does the DUR193SF compare with the DUR193Z?

The principal distinction is what is in the box. The DUR193SF is presented as a kit in the cited regional examples, while Makita Singapore labels the DUR193Z as bare tool. The tool itself may be the same model family, but the purchase decision changes if you need a battery and charger.

Choose the SF kit when the included battery and charger are useful and the bundle price is sensible in your market. Choose the Z bare tool when you already own compatible LXT batteries and a charger, or when a bare-tool purchase leaves enough budget for the accessories you actually need. There is no universal winner because prices, warranty terms and package contents differ by country and seller.

For a fair comparison, write down five items for each listing: battery model and capacity, charger model, ready-to-use weight, line and accessory contents, and the local price and warranty. A low bare-tool price can look attractive until a battery, charger and line are added. Conversely, a kit may duplicate batteries you already own.

Is the DUR193SF worth buying?

The DUR193SF is worth considering if you want a cordless trimmer in the 18V LXT system, value an adjustable head and want a kit that may include a battery and charger. Its most useful verified advantages are the published 260 mm cutting width, 7,800 rpm no-load speed and the head’s rotation for edging. Whether it is a good buy depends on the local bundle, price and your work—not on the model suffix alone.

It makes more sense if

  • You already use Makita 18V LXT equipment and can make use of a battery and charger included in the particular bundle.
  • You want a nylon-line grass trimmer for routine lawn-edge and garden-area trimming rather than a product whose cutting performance in heavy growth has been independently established.
  • You value an adjustable head and want the option to orient it for edging.
  • You prefer a documented 260 mm cutting path and can source 1.65 mm four-leaf replacement cord locally.
  • You can verify the exact regional contents and accept that the headline runtime is a no-load maximum.

Pause and check first if

  • You need a guaranteed battery capacity or charger: SF package contents vary between regional listings.
  • You expect a specific real-world runtime or coverage area: the 45-minute figure is a no-load maximum, and the cited product information provides no cutting-runtime test.
  • You are comparing it with the DUR193Z: the Singapore page labels that model bare tool, so account for the cost of any battery and charger you need.
  • You need a firm price, stock status or warranty comparison: the manufacturer information does not establish current local retail terms.
  • You plan to cut brush or woody growth and need evidence of that capability; the published material identifies a grass trimmer and does not provide independent heavy-growth testing.

What should you check before ordering?

  1. Read the full model number. Make sure the listing says DUR193SF if you expect the kit, not DUR193Z, which Makita Singapore identifies as bare tool.
  2. Confirm each item in the box. Look for the battery model and capacity, charger model, line and any strap or harness. Do not rely on a product photo or on another country’s bundle.
  3. Check battery-system fit. If you already own LXT batteries, confirm the exact battery is approved for this tool in the current manual or local Makita information.
  4. Match replacement line to the tool. The brochure’s specification is 1.65 mm four-leaf nylon cord; verify fit and replacement format against the manual and local listing.
  5. Compare ready-to-use weight. The brochure’s 2.3–2.6 kg net-weight range depends on configuration and does not replace a listing-specific tool-plus-battery figure.
  6. Compare local ownership terms. Confirm seller stock, price, return terms and warranty for your jurisdiction directly with the seller or manufacturer.
  7. Check charger timing. If rapid turnaround matters, identify whether the box has a DC18SD or another charger and compare that with the brochure’s 60-minute DC18SD and 22-minute DC18RC figures for BL1830B.

Practical buying scenarios

For a first-time Makita buyer, the SF kit is easier to evaluate because it may provide the complete starting set: trimmer, battery and charger. However, the 3.0Ah and 4.0Ah examples show why the seller’s contents list is essential. A buyer who needs the lighter configuration, the longer potential battery capacity or a particular charger should not infer it from the SF suffix.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For an existing LXT owner, the Z bare tool may avoid paying for duplicate equipment. The calculation should include the value of the battery and charger already in your workshop, the cost of replacement line, and the local warranty on the bare tool. If your existing batteries are not confirmed as compatible for this model, check Makita’s current information before assuming they can be used.

For occasional edging, the 180-degree rotation and five pivot positions are meaningful differentiators over a fixed-head trimmer. For a large property, the more important question is whether one battery can cover the intended work; Makita’s 45-minute claim is no-load only, so a second battery or a faster charger may be relevant, but the cited figures do not establish how much grass either option will actually cut.

Verdict

The Makita DUR193SF is a clearly specified 18V LXT nylon-line trimmer with a 260 mm head, 7,800 rpm no-load speed, five head-angle positions and 180-degree edging rotation. Its published 45-minute figure is useful only when read with the full qualification: it is a maximum under no-load conditions with a BL1830B battery. The strongest buying caveat is not the tool’s identity but the bundle: regional SF kits can contain a 3.0Ah BL1830B or a 4.0Ah BL1840B, and charger details may differ.

Buy it when the exact local kit, line supply and price fit your needs. If you already own LXT equipment, compare it directly with the DUR193Z bare tool. If you need guaranteed cutting runtime, heavy-growth performance, price or warranty information, obtain those details from the local seller or current Makita documentation rather than extrapolating from the brochure.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Makita’s product pages and brochure are the basis for the specifications and regional examples in this review: Makita Singapore’s DUR193 product information, Makita Latin America’s product listing, Makita Canada’s kit listing and the Makita Corporation 2022 brochure. Because the brochure is from 2022 and regional contents can change, current local documentation should take precedence when it differs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use an LXT battery I already own with the DUR193SF?

Do not assume compatibility from the LXT name alone. Check the DUR193 manual or current local Makita battery-compatibility information for the exact battery model before using a battery not supplied in the box.

How long does the Makita DUR193 run on a 3.0Ah battery?

Makita states up to 45 minutes with a BL1830B on a full charge at no load. That is a manufacturer maximum under no-load conditions, not a guaranteed grass-cutting runtime.

Does a 4.0Ah battery mean the trimmer will run for 60 minutes?

No such runtime is established by the product information. Battery capacity by itself cannot turn Makita’s no-load 3.0Ah figure into a guaranteed working-time estimate for a different battery.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What is included with the Makita DUR193SF kit?

Contents depend on the regional listing. Latin America and Singapore examples show a DC18SD charger and one 3.0Ah BL1830B battery, while Makita Canada lists a 4.0Ah BL1840B. Confirm the exact box contents with the seller.

Can the Makita DUR193 be used as an edger?

Yes, Makita Singapore describes a head that rotates 180 degrees for edging and pivots into five positions. The listing does not establish a wheeled edging attachment or a particular edge finish.

What line does the Makita DUR193 use?

The brochure specifies 1.65 mm four-leaf nylon cord and lists 15 m, 30 m and 45 m replacement lengths. Verify the profile and fit against the current manual and local listing before ordering.

Is the DUR193SF suitable for thick weeds or brush?

The official materials identify it as a nylon-line grass trimmer but do not report independent tests in thick weeds or brush. Check the manual’s intended-use guidance and choose equipment explicitly specified for demanding growth.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What is the difference between DUR193SF and DUR193Z?

The DUR193SF is a kit in the cited listings. The DUR193Z is identified as a bare-tool variant by Makita Singapore, so it may not include a battery or charger.

Which charger is faster for the BL1830B?

Makita’s brochure lists 22 minutes with a DC18RC and 60 minutes with a DC18SD for the BL1830B. Confirm which charger your regional kit actually includes.

Is the DUR193SF quiet or low-vibration?

Makita reports 73.2 dB(A) sound pressure, 83.1 dB(A) sound power and vibration of 2.5 / 2.5 m/s² or less at the two grips. These are manufacturer measurements, not a guarantee of how every user will perceive the tool.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: The DUR193SF is a versatile 18V LXT nylon-line trimmer with a 260 mm cutting width and an edging-capable pivoting head. Buy only after confirming the local battery, charger, line and warranty details; its 45-minute runtime claim applies to no-load operation with a BL1830B, not typical cutting.
