LG Rebel 4 LTE: At First Glance

Like its predecessors, LG Rebel 4 LTE is a smartphone designed to tend to budget-conscious users. It is a slight upgrade to the LG Rebel 3.

Looking at the LG Rebel 4 LTE’s spec sheet and the phone itself, there’s just a little difference between the phone and the LG Rebel 3. Still, the LG Rebel 4 LTE can be regarded as a significant upgrade over the LG Rebel 3.

With a faster 1.4 GHz 4 Core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and a 5-inch HD display, the LG Rebel 4 LTE already shows a glimpse of its superiority. Besides, these features alone are enough to get the attention of potential buyers.

LG Rebel 4 LTE: Design, Dimension & Weight

Like we had previously seen in the LG Rebel 3, the LG Rebel 4 LTE also has a plastic body build. Considering the smartphone’s price tag, this was to be expected anyway.

Moreover, smartphones on this price range in general are often made with plastic bodies.

Fortunately, plastic body builds are no longer a thing to be worried about since most plastic-built smartphones released in recent times have been of good quality. Based on this trend, it would be right to say that LG built a top-notch device.

The body of the LG Rebel 4 LTE is well designed and structured. In fact, it looks elegant and premium enough for its range.

Furthermore, praises showered on LG for their effective design choices would be duly deserved. One of these choices worthy of commendation is their decision to not include any physical button – like the home button – on the smartphone.

In a way, this design choice makes the LG Rebel 4 LTE look more modern and a bit more premium. Moreover, this seemingly little decision gave the LG Rebel 4 LTE an advantage over similarly priced competitors such as the Samsung Galaxy J3 Orbit.

With the absence of physical buttons, LG had more space to improve the screen-to-body ratio of this smartphone by reducing the bezels. Although the side bezels are slim, it is obvious that not much trimming was done to the top and bottom bezels.

Regardless, the absence of physical buttons on the front of the smartphone gives it a very clean look.

However, the back cover of the LG Rebel 4 LTE says otherwise. Placing the camera, speaker, and the LG logo on the back cover makes it look overcrowded.

Surprisingly, the back cover also accommodates the power button. At first, you will be convinced the power button is just your regular fingerprint sensor.

Using the power button might feel odd because of its weird positioning. After all, power buttons are usually fitted on the sides.

Furthermore, based on the odd positioning of the power button, it might take some time to get used to it. However, it eventually feels natural.

On the bright side, having the power button on the back leaves the sides of the smartphone neat. Only the volume buttons are placed on the left side of the LG Rebel 4 LTE while the right side does not have any buttons.

At the bottom of the LG Rebel 4 LTE, there’s a micro USB charging port, headphone jack, and microphone. At the top of the smartphone, you’ll find just a secondary microphone.

The LG Rebel 4 LTE didn’t stop impressing in terms of design and build alone, its size and weight are also impressive. It measures 144.7 x 71.8 x 7.8 mm and weighs 140.3 g.

In conclusion, the LG Rebel 4 LTE is very sleek, especially on the front and sides. The build quality of the smartphone is also commendable.

Therefore, the LG Rebel 4 LTE scores an eight in this review.

LG Rebel 4 LTE: Display Features

LG equipped the LG Rebel 4 LTE with 5.0-inch IPS TFT display. This display has an HD resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels.

This display offers extremely rich colors as you would expect from an LG smartphone’s display. As a result, the visual experience on the LG Rebel 4 LTE is pleasant.

Video and image viewing is very smooth and enjoyable thanks to the vivid color reproduction on the display. This display also makes gaming on the smartphone a bit better than I thought it would be.

Although the LG Rebel 4 LTE’s display is not the biggest you’ll find, it offers a considerably wide viewing angle. Images are hardly washout on the display.

Moreover, you will be able to see what is on the display even when you tilt the smartphone to different angles.

In addition, the clarity of this display is superb. It offers remarkable color schemes to aid the clarity of images.

However, if you pay enough attention, you’ll notice little pixelation around the edges of texts and images. Also, black colors on the display are not as dark as the ones on Full HD displays.

However, these downsides are not easily noticeable, so its not that bad.

In terms of brightness, the LG Rebel 4 LTE’s display is very bright and it adjusts well to the ambient light of its surroundings.

It is an excellent display regardless. Overall, the LG Rebel 4 LTE scores a seven in this review for its modest display features.

LG Rebel 4 LTE: Camera Features

The LG Rebel 4 LTE is equipped with an 8 MP rear camera. For the smartphone’s price, this camera resolution is not much of a surprise.

Moreover, other smartphones in the LG Rebel 4 LTE’s range – like the Samsung Galaxy J3 Orbit – also come with an 8 MP camera. Surely, the camera resolution is not a defining feature of LG Rebel 4 LTE.

The LG Rebel 4 LTE doesn’t capture extraordinary pictures but it sure does a good job for its price range. Video capturing at 1080p is also possible on the LG Rebel 4 LTE.

Though the LG Rebel 4 LTE’s camera doesn’t shine in terms of image quality, it offers other special features to make up for its low quality. One of the most notable features is the Instant Focus feature that works like auto-focus, but with quicker speed.

However, the LG Rebel 4 LTE faces a similar problem with every other smartphone that belongs to its price range. It gets difficult for the camera to find the right balance for pictures when the lighting of the environment is not bright enough.

For the front-facing camera, the LG Rebel 4 LTE features a 5 MP camera that enables you to take decent pictures. This camera has an Auto-Shot feature that uses facial recognition technology to automatically help in taking selfies.

Overall, the LG Rebel 4 LTE scores a seven in this review for its good array of camera features.

LG Rebel 4 LTE: Battery Life and Talk Time

The LG Rebel 4 LTE comes with a 2,500 mAh capacity battery. This battery is removable.

Going by LG’s claims, the LG Rebel 4 LTE can last for 11.5 days on standby mode. They also claim that the smartphone can offer 15.8 hours of talk time.

However, you should note that the smartphone’s lifetime might vary based on how you use it.

On our tests, we discovered that battery consumption on the LG Rebel 4 LTE is moderate. The LG Rebel 4 LTE can last you an entire day of regular usage.

For its price, the LG Rebel 4 LTE’s battery life is awesome.

However, the smartphone’s charging port is still the regular micro USB port, not a USB C-Type. This will make it difficult for you to use chargers from other phones. It also doesn’t support fast charging feature.

That’s not something to really worry about though since the LG Rebel 4 LTE still charges up quickly because of its small battery capacity.

Overall, the LG Rebel 4 LTE scores a seven in this review for its relatively good battery life.

LG Rebel 4 LTE: Storage Options & Performance

The LG Rebel 4 LTE comes with 16 GB of internal storage capacity.

This storage capacity is fair enough for a smartphone of its range. Moreover, 16 GB of internal storage will be sufficient for many users who barely store large files.

However, since the smartphone’s operating system makes use of a part of the internal storage, it might not be as sufficient as it seems. Technically, you only get about 10 GB available for your personal use.

In comparison with other smartphones such as Samsung phones, the storage space consumed by the LG Rebel 4 LTE’s operating system is fair. This is because LG has a lighter launcher and less bloatware compared to Samsung smartphones.

In addition to the internal storage, the LG Rebel 4 LTE also allows storage expansion via SD card – up to 32 GB. Though this is a good gesture, it still doesn’t make up well enough for the insufficient storage.

Hence, you will have to store fewer files, music, pictures, and apps. As a result, the LG Rebel 4 LTE scores a six in this review for its insufficient storage capacity.

LG Rebel 4 LTE: Security Features & Sensors

Smartphones usually come with a collection of sensors to facilitate a better user experience. These sensors often work with apps.

Generally, sensors usually contain precision components that are very sensitive to external factors and environmental conditions. This explains a lot about how modern smartphones operate with a higher level of intelligence.

As expected LG Rebel 4 LTE comes with some sensors.

LG Rebel 4 LTE comes with an accelerometer that tells the smartphone’s software which way the phone is pointing by detecting its orientation. Apps on your smartphone make use of this sensor to switch from portrait to landscape and vice versa.

In addition, LG included an ambient light sensor in the LG Rebel 4 LTE. This sensor detects the lighting levels in the environment to adjust the display’s brightness accordingly.

The display’s auto-brightness mode makes use of this sensor.

You also get a proximity sensor whose function is to detect when an object is near to the smartphone. When the smartphone is in close contact with your ear during phone calls, the sensor detects it and disables the touchscreen display to save battery.

For security, you get the regular password and pattern locks. The phone does not feature a fingerprint sensor.

Overall, the LG Rebel 4 LTE scores a six in this review for its average collection of sensors.
