LG Q7 Plus: At First Glance

The LG Q7 Plus looks and feels like the LG G7 ThinQ that belongs to LG’s high-end smartphones. As a result, this smartphone could be easily mistaken for a high-end smartphone.

Furthermore, the LG Q7 Plus offers a lot of exciting features at a reasonable price. One noteworthy feature the LG Q7 Plus offers is the QLens AI technology.

This is impressive considering that QLens AI technology is mainly featured in LG’s premium smartphones. More so, the LG Q7 Plus promises an excellent mid-range performance with respect to its impressive spec sheet.

LG Q7 Plus: Design, Dimension & Weight

No doubt, the LG Q7 Plus is one of the best-looking mid-range smartphones money can buy. Unlike many mid-range smartphones that are usually built entirely with plastic, some parts of LG Q7 Plus are made with metallic casing.

However, the metal casing didn’t go across the smartphone’s entire body. The back of the LG Q7 Plus is coated with an acrylic-like glass finish.

The glass material makes the LG Q7 Plus feel and look more expensive. It is important to note, however, that this back covering can easily retain stains and scratches.

Aside from that, the LG Q7 Plus is well built. The smartphone’s IP68- certification which means it is dust and waterproof, validates the LG Q7 Plus’s good construction.

To further verify its solid build quality, the LG Q7 Plus passed the MIL-STD 810G military standard certification test. Hence, this smartphone can withstand some extreme environmental conditions such as shock and temperature.

Despite its sturdiness, the LG Q7 Plus is as light as possible. It weighs 145 g.

The dimension of the smartphone is another thing to be delighted in. Its 143.8 x 69.3 x 8.4 mm dimension hints at just how slender and portable the smartphone is.

Although it doesn’t feature a non-bezel display, the display on the smartphone features very thin bezels that complement its already beautiful structure. The LG Q7 Plus has an aspect ratio of 18:9.

In addition, the perfectly curved metal frame on the sides of the smartphone also enhances its beauty.

On the left side of the LG Q7 Plus, there’s an SD/SIM slot and a volume rocker. On the right side, you get just the power button.

Furthermore, the bottom of this smartphone features a USB-C charging port, a headphone jack, and a bottom-firing speaker. There’s another speaker at the top of the display right beside the front-facing camera.

Meanwhile, the bottom of the display doesn’t feature any physical button. The back button, home button, and recent apps button are all on-screen buttons instead.

In terms of color, the LG Q7 Plus is available only in Moroccan blue.

Overall, the LG Q7 Plus’s design is sturdy and beautiful. Therefore, it scores an eight in this review.

LG Q7 Plus: Display Features

LG equipped the LG Q7 Plus with a 5.5-inch TFT display. This display has an FHD resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels.

Since LG has a good reputation for making excellent displays, much was expected from this smartphone in terms of its display. From our assessment, it would be safe to say LG didn’t disappoint.

To give more detail, the LG Q7 Plus’s display offers a brightness level of about 420 cd/m^2. For a smartphone of its range, its display brightness is commendable.

Also, the LG Q7 Plus’s screen is extremely gorgeous and colorful. Its 439 PPI is one major reason for its crispness.

Furthermore, outdoor usage is not a problem at all. Colors on the screen remain vivid outdoors, contents are easy to read, and reflections on the screen are not excessive.

Viewing angles are also great. Hence, you can view this smartphone’s display with ease from almost any angle.

Overall, the LG Q7 Plus’s display is impressive. Therefore, it scores an eight in this review.

LG Q7 Plus: Camera Features

The LG Q7 Plus is equipped with a 16 MP rear camera and an 8 MP front camera.

The rear camera on the smartphone comes with PDAF (Phase Detection Auto Focus). LG claims this feature offers a 23 percent faster focus compared to previous focusing options.

In our test, the rear camera’s PDAF feature performed just as LG claimed it would. Objects came into focus very quickly.

Generally, the rear camera offers great picture quality. Moreover, color differences in the pictures taken in dark environments are hardly distinguishable.

The same is the case with the front camera in dark environments. In well-lit environments, the front camera performed well.

The camera performance could be linked to a featured AI that further helps to beautify the face. The front camera also has the capability to capture wide-angle shots.

Additionally, the fingerprint sensor on the back of the LG Q7 Plus can be used as a shutter button for taking selfies easily.

In conclusion, both cameras on the LG Q7 Plus perform remarkably well. Hence, it scores an eight in this review.

LG Q7 Plus: Battery Life and Talk Time

The LG Q7 Plus features a 3,000 mAh battery. Though many might find this battery capacity small, it is okay for the price of the smartphone.

The question on your mind will probably be “how long can this battery last”?

Our battery test centered around everyday use. The LG Q7 Plus performed well, considering its 3,000 mAh battery – it lasted close to 13 hours.

However, the smartphone’s battery drained faster when I put it under a video play back test. Comparatively, the LG Q7 Plus only lags behind its competitors that are equipped with bigger batteries.

One of the good features LG included in this smartphone is its fast charging feature. The LG Q7 Plus charges from empty to full capacity in less than two hours.

In conclusion, the LG Q7 Plus scores a seven in this review for its good battery life.

LG Q7 Plus: Storage Options & Performance

The LG Q7 Plus comes with 64 GB of internal storage. For a smartphone of its range, this internal storage capacity is impressive.

Even though the operating system of this smartphone makes use of a portion of the internal storage capacity, there is more than enough left for to save videos and photos.

You can store a large number of pictures, music, documents, and other files. It will also be possible to install large games and apps without any issue.

It gets even more interesting. The smartphone’s storage can be expanded to up to 2 TB with a microSD card.

However, this is not surprising as this is a common feature of LG phones. Most LG phones support up to 2 TB microSD card expansion.

Unfortunately, the microSD can only be used as external storage for storing pictures, music, documents, etc. You can not reformat the SD card as internal storage, neither can you store apps in it.

Overall, the LG Q7 Plus scores a nine in this review for its amazing storage options.

LG Q7 Plus: Security Features & Sensors

Have you ever been curious to know how your smartphone detects light and adjusts the screen’s brightness, or how it knows whether you are holding it in landscape or portrait? The answer is with the help of sensors.

Sensors enhance your smartphone operations by giving it special intelligence. Basically, these sensors detect majors changes in the nearby environment and send the data collated to the processor.

The sensors the LG Q7 Plus features include an accelerometer that detects the orientation of the smartphone. Apps like WhatsApp use this sensor to determine whether your phone is in portrait or landscape orientation – then, flip the app according to the orientation of the phone.

LG Q7 Plus also features an ambient light sensor that automatically adjusts the screen brightness of the smartphone according to the amount of ambient light. Your screen’s auto-brightness works perfectly because of this sensor.

Additionally, the smartphone comes with a proximity sensor that helps to detect the presence of nearby objects. This sensor helps to automatically turn off the screen when it detects that it is close to your ear during a phone call – which in turn saves battery.

Lastly, the LG Q7 Plus features a fingerprint sensor for securing your device from unauthorized access. With the fingerprint sensor you can unlock your phone with your fingerprint – making it more secure.

Overall, the LG Q7 Plus scores an eight in this review for its good selection of sensors.

  1. I have this phone and I HATE it. I left Apple to only find out that Google runs the other half of the cell phone market.
So, I have to accept that, but do not have to keep this piece of shit phone any longer. Slowest processor I can imagine – sometimes 3 or 4 full seconds for a response. Battery lasts about 4 hours on a full charge – with minimal to no usage (after 1 year).
As much as I hated Apple, I am going back to them and throwing this p.o.s. in the trash.
