LG NANO91: At First Glance

We can’t ignore the fact that LG has made a name for itself in the television world. In order to solidify its stance in the television market, LG began to manufacture NanoCell televisions.

In my opinion, NanoCell televisions as well as OLED televisions are the future of televisions. This is because they not only offer great picture quality for watching movies but also offer adequate performance for gaming.

Well, to expand its NanoCell collection, LG released the NANO91 in 2020. This television is a mid-range 4K NanoCell TV with a great number of ports, outstanding picture quality, and webOS.

However, just like every other television in the market, this LG NanoCell television isn’t without drawbacks. Thus, to know about the television’s drawbacks and overall performance, you have to read on!

LG NANO91: Design, Dimension, and Weight

As a 2020 television, the LG NANO91 comes with a modern design that is almost identical to the LG SM9000. To begin with, this television is bordered by somewhat thin bezels that measure 0.40-inch.

In addition to that, these bezels feature a matte gray finish and they are composed of plastic. Sadly, due to the extreme thinness of these bezels, LG wasn’t able to find the space to include their logo.

On a bright note, the LG NANO91 comes with a stand that has the shape of a half-moon. Moreover, just like the bezels, this stand is made of plastic and features a matte gray finish.

Furthermore, despite being made of plastic, this stand is very sturdy and supports the television firmly. Thus, even if the LG NANO91 is nudged with force, it will only wobble a bit.

To make things better, as with the LG SM9000’s stand, there is a hole at the back of the LG NANO91’s stand. This hole serves as a cable management system.

Turning to the back of the LG NANO91, you will discover a plain plastic panel. This back panel features a matte-black finish and four VESA-compatible holes for wall-mounting the TV.

Moreover, the back panel of this television is very slim just like the bezels. As a result, when the LG NANO91 is wall-mounted, it should look nice and shouldn’t bulge out of the wall.

Having discussed all that, let us now talk about the television’s dimension and weight. The LG NANO91 measures 1456 x 70.5 x 840 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 24000 g.

When compared to other 65-inch televisions like the VIZIO M658-G1 and Samsung NU6900 65, this LG television weighs less. To be more specific, the VIZIO M658-G1 and Samsung NU6900 65 weigh 24200 g and 24992.9 g respectively.

In summary, the LG NANO91 comes with an excellent design with thin bezels. Also, unlike most televisions nowadays, this television offers a cable management system.

Therefore, I will be rating the LG NANO91 a nine out of ten in this design review section.

LG NANO91: Display Features and Picture Quality

For the display, the LG NANO91 employs a 65-inch NanoCell display with a 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution. As it is a NanoCell display, this television should be able to render a wider range of colors than other display types.

Furthermore, because this NanoCell display features a 4K resolution, the display’s colors and images will be accurate and realistic. Unfortunately, this display is made with an IPS panel which means it has a poor contrast ratio.

To be more precise, this display has a 1,068:1 native contrast ratio. The contrast ratio is the proportion of luminance that a display can provide between the brightest white and the darkest black.

Furthermore, a high contrast ratio implies that the display is capable of producing deep blacks. Unfortunately, the LG NANO91’s display can’t generate deep blacks due to its low contrast ratio.

In other words, the black that the display renders will resemble gray rather than black. As a result, the LG NANO91 may not be the best TV for watching movies with a lot of darks or shady scenes like horror movies.

In addition to that, the television isn’t the ideal choice for viewing in a dark room. On the plus side, the LG NANO91’s display supports local dimming.

Local dimming is a picture technology that improves a display’s contrast ratio by dimming the backlight zones. Thus, thanks to local dimming, the blacks that the LG NANO91’s display produces should be a bit darker/deeper.

Nevertheless, the blacks won’t be as dark as they would if the display actually features a high contrast ratio.

As mentioned earlier, the LG NANO91’s display is made with an IPS panel. Although an IPS panel makes a display delivers a low contrast ratio, it also allows a display offers wide viewing angles.

Thus, as an IPS panel display, this television’s display has wide viewing angles. As a result, when viewing the LG NANO91 off-center, the picture quality and colors won’t lose accuracy or fade out.

That said, the LG NANO91’s display offers a decent maximum brightness of 409 nits. As a result, this LG television is ideal for usage in a bright or well-lit room.

Moreover, you won’t have to worry about reflections when watching this television in bright rooms. This is due to the semi-gloss coating on the television’s display, which prevents and minimizes the density of reflections and screen glares.

Apart from its semi-gloss coating, the LG NANO91’s display also supports a variety of HDR formats, including Dolby Vision, HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma), and HDR10. HDR (High Dynamic Range) is a picture augmentation technology that boosts a display’s brightness and color accuracy.

In other words, HDR enhances the sharpness of images and makes them appear more realistic and lifelike. As a result, the picture quality on the LG NANO91 will be more realistic, bright, and sharp when viewing HDR-supported movies.

If you’re wondering, HDR-supported movies are available on streaming services such as HULU and Amazon Prime Video.

Moving on, LG NANO91’s display comes with a great response time of 12.4 milliseconds. As a result, the LG NANO91 is ideal for watching fast-moving content, such as sports and action movies.

In case you’re curious, response time refers to how long it takes for a display to switch from one color to another. In addition to its great response time, the TV’s display comes with a low input lag of 14.7 milliseconds.

Input lag is defined as the time it takes for a display to register signal input from an external source like a wireless gamepad. Furthermore, an input lag is a major aspect of determining a television’s gaming capability.

Hence, the lower the input lag the display has, the better the gaming experience on the television. Well, with a display input lag as low as 14.7 milliseconds, the LG NANO91 is very ideal for playing video games.

In conclusion, there is literally nothing to hate about the LG NANO91’s display except its poor contrast ratio. Hence, the LG NANO91 deserves a nine out of ten rating in this display review section.

LG NANO91: Sound Features

For sound production, the LG NANO91 employs a pair of 20-watt down-firing speakers. These speakers are fairly loud and produce high-quality sound.

In addition to its two impressive down-firing speakers, the LG NANO91 comes with a subwoofer. As a result, the television should be able to generate an adequate amount of bass.

Therefore, the TV is ideal for watching bass-heavy movies or listening to songs with lots of basses. Apart from its subwoofer for bass production, this LG television also features multiple sound technologies for enhancing its sound production.

One of these sound technologies is ClearVoice III. With the help of this sound technology, the LG NANO91’s speakers are able to deliver crisp, audible, clear, and understandable dialogue.

Thus, when watching a movie on the TV, viewers will be able to clearly hear and distinguish what the characters are saying.

Another sound technology that the LG NANO91 features to enhance its sound production is Dolby Atmos. This sound technology boosts the television’s speakers’ surround sound, enabling them to deliver a cinema-like sound production.

Impressively, the distortion performance of the LG NANO91 is outstanding. To give more details, even at a maximum volume level, the distortion that this television produces is very minimal.

Also, at a moderate volume level (70% or less), distortion is totally absent on the television. Just to be clear, distortion in this context is the alteration of sound signals, allowing an audio device to deliver disturbing sound quality.

Honestly, the LG NANO91 ticks all the boxes when it comes to the sound department. Therefore, the television deserves a nine out of ten rating in this sound feature review section.

LG NANO91: Ports and Connectivity Features

The LG NANO91 comes with a reasonable amount of ports. However, like most LG televisions, these ports are all located on the back panel of the television.

Therefore, users may find it difficult to access the ports whenever the television is mounted on the wall.

That said, the LG NANO91 comes with four HDMI ports including one that supports Audio Return Channel (ARC). Thus, you should be able to connect a soundbar to the television with the help of the HDMI-ARC port.

Apart from the HDMI ports, this LG television also comes with three USB 2.0 ports. Also, the television features an RF port for connecting an antenna and an Ethernet port for wired internet connection.

That’s not all, the LG NANO91 has one digital optical audio output and a headphone output. For wireless connectivity, however, this television comes with a built-in 802.11ac WIFI and Bluetooth version 5.0.

Having mentioned the television’s ports and wireless connectivity, it is equally important to discuss its remote. To begin with, the LG NANO91 comes with an LG magic remote control.

This remote is made of plastic and has a glossy-black finish. Also, the remote features quite a number of buttons including a full numeric pad.

In addition to the numeric pad, the television’s remote also comes with two dedicated buttons for quick access to Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. Additionally, the remote has a circular navigation button with a scroller in the center.

Moreover, as a magic remote control, LG NANO91’s remote features a built-in microphone. This microphone allows for voice input via Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant.

In summary, the LG NANO91 comes with a good port selection and a voice-supported magic remote control. However, the ports might not be easily accessed because they are all on the TV’s back.

Therefore, I will rate the LG NANO91 an eight out of out ten in this ports and connectivity features review section.

LG NANO91: Smart Features

As a modern LG smart television, the LG NANO91 comes with the webOS 6.0. This operating system has a straightforward, easy-to-use interface that runs smoothly.

In addition to that, there is a dashboard beneath the OS’ interface that enables quick access to a variety of streaming services. Among these streaming services are HULU, Sling TV, Netflix, Now TV, Amazon Prime Video, and so on.

Unfortunately, this operating system contains advertisements. As a result, a pop-up ad can catch you off-guard when trying to navigate the OS’ user interface.

To make matters worse, these advertisements on the operating system cannot be disabled. On the plus side, webOS 6.0 has the LG Content Store, which has a whole library of streaming services and applications you can download.

In conclusion, the LG NANO91 comes with an impressive operating system that offers a lot of streaming apps. However, the operating system features advertisements that may be annoying.

Thus, I will be rating the LG NANO91 an eight out of ten in this smart features review.
