LG B8: At First Glance
Since the introduction of its first OLED TV in 2013, LG has become more popular and reliable in the television market. This is because OLED televisions offer outstanding performance and amazing picture quality.
Besides, they are major rivals to the well-known and expensive QLED televisions. So, in this review article, we will be discussing a prominent OLED television in recent years called the LG B8.
The LG B8 is a smart OLED television that delivers excellent picture quality and exceptional specs like an infinite contrast ratio. However, as most of us know, OLED televisions are quite expensive, and this LG TV isn’t an exception.
Specifically, the LG B8 cost $2,999.99 in April 2022 (when I wrote this review). Although expensive, will this television offer an ideal performance to be able to compete with other OLED TVs in the market?

LG B8: Design, Dimension, and Weight
To begin with, the LG B8 features a very elegant and superb look with some amazing design aesthetics. To be descriptive, the front view of the television features ultra-slim bezels that surround the display.
Precisely, these bezels measure just 0.39-inch and are entirely made out of plastic. However, due to the extreme slimness of these bezels, LG wasn’t able to include its logo on any part.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Nevertheless, the bezels make the LG B8 look modern and cause no distraction when watching the television. That aside, this LG television comes with a metallic stand that has a matte-black finish.
Although this metallic stand is very sturdy and offers enough support, the LG B8 still wobbles when nudged with force. Nevertheless, you will find a beautiful white “LG OLED” inscription on the lower edge of this stand that serves as brand identification.
Now that we have a clear picture of the television’s front view, let us discuss its back. To start with, when you turn the LG B8 to the back, you will come across a panel that is divided into two parts.
The upper part of this back panel is made of metal, very slim, and features a white finish which makes it look really sleek. Meanwhile, the lower part is made of plastic and significantly thicker than the upper part.

This is because it houses all the television’s electronic components and inputs. Nonetheless, this lower back panel isn’t too thick to the extent that the LG B8 will bulge out or look awkward when wall-mounted.
Speaking of which, this television features four 300 x 200 VESA mount holes on its back panel that enables you to mount it on the wall. Besides, this back panel has a basic cable management system to ensure a clean setup when cables are attached to the TV.
Moving on to the size and weight, the LG B8 measures 1228 x 46.9 x 707 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 16300 g. Comparatively, this TV is slimmer and lighter than the Sony XBR – 55A8G.
Specifically, the Sony XBR – 55A8G measures 1229 x 51 x 710 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 17600 g.
In conclusion, the LG B8 offers an almost-flawless design, featuring super-slim bezels and a cable management system. Furthermore, this TV weighs less than one of its closest rivals.
Hence, I will offer the LG B8 a rating of nine out of ten in this design review section.
LG B8: Display Features and Picture Quality
Starting off, the LG B8 features a 55-inch OLED display with a 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution. Due to the combination of the OLED technology and 4K UHD resolution, this display should be able to deliver life-like and realistic picture quality.
Besides, OLED displays usually offer an infinite contrast ratio, and the LG B8’s display isn’t an exception. The infinite contrast ratio is the best contrast ratio a display could possibly have.

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchMoreover, due to the infinite contrast ratio, this television’s display will be able to render extremely deep blacks. Therefore, using the LG B8 in a dark room should be very enjoyable.
Also, the television will be ideal for watching movies with plenty of dark or shadowy scenes, such as The Batman. By the way, the contrast ratio is the difference between the most luminous white and the darkest black that a display can render.
In addition to its infinite contrast ratio, the LG B8’s OLED display also offers an impressive maximum brightness of 548 cd/m² (nits). As a result, this television should be suitable for usage in well-lit environments or outdoors.
Impressively, when using the television in such environments, you don’t need to worry too much about reflection or annoying screen glares. This is because the display has a glossy coating on its surface that reduces the density of reflection across the display.

To make things even better, like most OLED displays out there, the LG B8’s display offers wide viewing angles. Therefore, the LG B8 is good for a large room setting.
This is because colors and pictures on the display won’t lose accuracy or look washed out when watching the TV from the sides.
That said, as with most modern televisions, the LG B8 supports HDR (High Dynamic Range). In brief, HDR is a picture technology that improves the highlights, color presentation, and brightness of a display when viewing HDR-supported content.
Hence, when watching HDR-supported content on the LG B8, pictures are going to look more realistic and natural. In case you are not aware, HDR-supported content or movies can be found on streaming platforms such as Netflix.

- DIMENSIONS & ROOM FIT: TV dimensions with stand (WxHxD) are 67.4" x 40.7" x 10.5", and dimensions without stand are 67.4" x 38.7" x 1.9". The 77-inch C6 is designed for larger living rooms and home theater setups; check your available wall or console space and mount compatibility before purchase. Wall-mount hardware is sold separately.
This response time has to be the fastest that I have encountered. Well, due to its display’s 1.1 ms response time, the LG B8 is very suitable for watching movies with plenty of fast-moving scenes like The Transporter.
This is due to the fact that there will be little to no blur trails when the display is rendering such movies. Just so you know, response time is the amount of time it takes a display to transition from one color to another.
Although ideal for watching movies with plenty of fast-moving scenes or fast-motion content, the LG B8 isn’t suitable for gaming. This is because its display doesn’t meet the requirements to be deemed fit for gaming.
Specifically, for a television to be considered suitable for gaming, its display must have an input lag of 15 ms or less. Sadly, the LG B8’s display delivered an input lag of 21.3 milliseconds.
Hence, this television isn’t ideal for gamers. For the record, input lag is the amount of time it takes a display to react to signal inputs from sources like a wireless XBOX One gamepad.
In conclusion, apart from its not-low-enough input lag, the LG B8 is actually flawless. It features an infinite contrast ratio, extremely fast response time, wide viewing angles, and HDR compatibility.
Thus, the LG B8 deserves nothing less than a nine out of ten rating in this display features review section.
LG B8: Sound Features
The LG B8’s sound department is as perfect as its display; it features a pair of 20-watt speakers. These speakers are considerably loud and produce an appealing sound quality.
Besides, for adequate bass production, the LG B8 comes with a built-in 20-watt subwoofer. Thus, this television is more than ideal for watching bass-heavy movies or movies with lots of rumbling and thumping sounds.
In addition to its impressive bass production, the LG B8 is able to deliver clear and audible dialogue. In case you don’t know what dialogue is, it is the conversation between multiple characters in a movie or TV show.
To further enhance its sound production and quality, this LG television comes with advanced sound technologies. These sound technologies are DTS-HD and Ultra Surround Sound.

Thereby improving the viewing and audio experience of the television.
To crown it all up, the LG B8 offers an excellent distortion performance. This was proven through the television’s 0.76% on a THD test.
Briefly, THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) is a test that calculates the level or amount of distortion that a sound device can deliver. Furthermore, based on this test, a score of 1% or less means that the sound device generates minimal to no distortion.
However, if the sound device’s score is above 1%, that means it is capable of producing a significant amount of distortion. Apparently, with a score of 0.76% on the THD test, the LG B8’s speakers will generate minimal or no distortion.
Therefore, even when you set the TV to the maximum volume level, distortion won’t be a problem. If you are curious, distortion in this context is the alteration of a sound device’s original frequencies/signals.
Thereby making the sound device produce unwanted noises and disturbing sound quality.
All in all, the LG B8’s sound department is perfect. Therefore, I will offer the LG B8 a much-deserved rating of nine out of ten in this sound features review section.
LG B8: Ports and Connectivity Features
Port-wise, the LG B8 features a sufficient number of ports. However, the majority of these ports might be difficult to access if the television is mounted on the wall.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
This is because they are located directly on this TV’s back. Nevertheless, there are few ports on the left side that can be easily accessed when the TV is wall-mounted.
These ports include a USB port and three HDMI ports, one of these HDMI ports is compatible with ARC (Audio Return Channel). Hence, with the aid of that particular ARC-compatible HDMI port, you will be able to easily connect a soundbar to the LG B8.
That said, among the ports directly on the TV’s back, you will find another HDMI port, two USB 2.0 ports, and an RF port. That’s not all; you will also find optical digital audio out, an Ethernet port, and composite video input.
In terms of wireless connectivity, the LG B8 features Bluetooth and a built-in 802.11ac WIFI.

Hence, with the help of Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa voice AIs, you will be able to control the LG B8 with your voice. To do so, you just have to press the microphone button on the top part of the remote and speak into a built-in mic.
Speaking of buttons, the LG B8’s magic remote features quite a number of buttons, including a full number pad. Furthermore, the remote has a circular navigation button with a scroller in the center.
That’s not all; this remote also has two dedicated buttons for quick access to Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. Moreover, there is also a white “LG” logo at the bottom part of the remote for brand recognition.
In summary, the LG B8 offers a sufficient amount of ports and a voice-supported magic remote control. However, most of the ports are directly on the TV’s back, making them difficult to access if the television is wall-mounted.
Nonetheless, the LG B8 deserves a rating of nine out of ten in this ports and connectivity review section.

Like all LG smart televisions that I have come across, the LG B8 features webOS. This operating system is exclusive to LG televisions and offers lots of amazing features.
Some of these features include a smooth, user-friendly, lag-free interface that makes navigation seamless. Also, this OS comes with loads of applications and streaming services.

To make things even more interesting, the webOS comes with an in-built apps store called the LG Content Store.
Hence, you can download more of your favorite applications and streaming services via this app store. However, the LG Content Store has limited apps compared to the Google Play Store or Samsung Store.
On a positive note, the webOS features a built-in web browser that allows you to seamlessly surf the internet using the LG B8. Besides, you will be able to share/stream multimedia content directly from your smartphone to the LG B8.
To achieve this, all you have to do is to download the LG Smart Share app on your smartphone. Also, your smartphone and the television must be connected to the same WIFI network.
Sadly, the webOS features ads that cannot be disabled. Therefore, when navigating the interface of the OS, you might notice some annoying ads occasionally.
Thus, I will offer the LG B8 a rating of eight out of ten in this smart features review section.
